fapaholic Verified Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Excuse me?? Was just pointing out some people seem satisfied with the team as is when they should not. I fully expect more moves to happen and will be disappointed if not. Three weeks ago, the Jays had three good bats. And then they got Martin. And then they had four. And then they got Donaldson. And then they had five. And then they got Saunders. And now you like the "top 6". How about we just wait.
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 The hope for a few weeks has been that whenever they got rid of Montero, they'd be a potential suitor for Navarro. I hope that winds up being true. Diamondbacks fit really well as trade partners for the Jays. Pennington + Delgado for Navarro?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 SNBarryDavis AA just met with the media. Says he doesn't expect anything to gappe today, but things can change quickly. #BlueJays AA won't discuss the trade rumours out there but he has no desire to deal anymore of his young pitchers. #BlueJays
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 After acquiring Montero, the Cubs are looking to deal Castillo. Elsewhere:

Since the jays are short 3 or 4 pitchers as it is dealing more would be just stupid. I suspect the Jays will miss Happ more than most think. Sanchez more than likely is a reliever and Norris would be expected to make a huge jump. Good talent being rushed too fast. Estrada if he gets 30 starts might set a record for most HRs allowed. I would have much rather kept Happ signed Aoki And DFAd Estrada.

GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 If they increase the Umpires pay they should increase their accountability.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Not if they are the best players. Yeah, its very risky but that is probably better than the alternatives. Izturis is garbage and Pillar has been a disaster against RHP. Izturis could potentially be useful. The pre-injury Izturis wasn't the worst. But for sure, this is why they need to make a deal.
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1 5s5 seconds ago #Dodgers have let teams know open to moving Dee Gordon. New front office likes OBP, not Gordon’s forte
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Steamer, not me. I'm sure they have some reasons to be optimistic about how his game will translate, but expecting Travis to put up 2 WAR is absolutely nuts IMO. In reality nobody has too much of a clue how useful he will be- possibly a little above 2 WAR (great case), and possibly quite negative. Does anyone else not understand how that's his projection?
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Dee Gordon to the Blue Jays in 3.......2........ #trackteam
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Dee Gordon to the Blue Jays in 3.......2........ #trackteam They are probably looking for a decent return coming off the season he had. Not the biggest fan of giving anything of value for a guy who can be a complete bust.

He's a .320 minor league hitter... there are actually not a lot of those. He has a little gap power, a low strike out rate. He's a little old for his leagues. Put it all together and 2 WAR sounds about right. No clue about his defense. Nobody has any clue how good he could be... great case is more like 5 WAR. Edited December 9, 2014 by Olerud363
Nox Verified Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Does anyone else not understand how that's his projection? There's absolutely not much reason to put Travis' ceiling at 2 WAR. I don't think you understand what league average offense at 2B looks like.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I think people don't understand that 2 WAR is like an average player, no one projects him to be a superstar. However, an average player at second is miles better than what we've thrown out there for a few years (not including Lawrie getting the odd day in).

I think what happened with Boagarts and JBJ is fresh in people and putting bias into thinking Pompey and Travis won't be good.

I don't think you understand what league average offense at 2B looks like. Naw, I'm not putting his ceiling at 2 WAR. I said that next season I think getting a little more than 2 WAR out of him would be considered a "great case".
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Are people even taking into account that WAR is not going to be same at every position? I would imagine you have higher mean WAR at certain positions like LF, RF, 1B, 3B. Christ.

Ok, and expecting a guy who's never played above AA to come and be an average MLB player is a bit of a stretch. I'm not saying he'll be terrible, but the potential for him to be is there. Which was my whole point from 2 pages ago... they should get someone at least serviceable for either 2B or CF.
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Christ. To say the general WAR guidelines is the same regardless of position is wrong. A 2 WAR 2B may not be evaluated the same as a 2 WAR 3B, for example. Their market value may vary by position and as would the mean WAR.
