Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Alternatively: f***, can you imagine the runs those two would provide on offense? The thought is terrifying. lol
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 war? Well you always seem to have your own numbers so...
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 In a way shouldn't the Jays fans also? Jays now have an outgoing President who's boss tried to replace him without telling him. That's got to be some awkward meetings in the future for Pelley (who I honestly believe had little idea what Rogers was doing). Beest is known as easy-going so Jays fans can hope that he just laughs it off as an idiot owner sticking his nose in. I'd pay to sit in on the first meeting between Eddie and Beest though (I wonder if Harbour 60 would let me just hang out there and order water all day) To be honest, no, I don't think Beeston being upset is a problem. He was already on his way out, and he probably knew that when his contract was allowed to run out in October, before this stuff even came to the surface. In the worst case event that he was upset, how much does it matter? He has very little control of the actual baseball ops. I always felt like the only time Beeston is ever significant is when the Jays need to ask for more money. Might that effect the supposed rumors that the Jays want to go balls out in the IFA market? Maybe. But the only person he'd be hurting by not trying to the best of his ability in that case would be AA, and I can't see him doing that. Maybe I'm wrong for taking it so lightly, but I just can't seem to get worried about the Jays side of this at all. They should actually be happy. DD is so much better than the replacement GMs. I agree with you, but I don't think O's fans are even half as smart or rational enough to look at it that way. They won't care who the alternatives were, the stupid narrative that DD might phone it in now is going to be enough to drive them off a cliff.
subatomic Verified Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 You guys not done with Dan. This is the 4th time the Blue Jays walked away they gonna come back. You are right. They informed their mouth piece in the press but they didn't inform the Orioles that they were done. They will come up with the prospects. What is their alternative? Keep the current crew and spend another 23 years out of the playoffs.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Can you give me the advanced stats that account for defensive value for each player and whether or not it outweighs the potential offensive value? To be fair, the very obvious answer to your question was WAR, lol. If the guy's positive offense outweighs his negative defense, or his positive defense outweighs his negative offense, he'll have a positive WAR. It it doesn't, then it will be negative. If a guy is a +4 hitter and a -2 defender, he's a +2 over all, and if he's a +2 hitter and a -3 defender, he's a -1. Weeks, who's bandwagon my ass has been firmly planted upon for quite some time now, has more than enough offense to make up for his poor defense. If you want defense, then play Goins. You're not going to get a great all-around 3-WAR second baseman now. Value is value, and Weeks will give you value. At least, he should.
subatomic Verified Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Give it up already. You're not getting a top prospect for a disgruntled employee who wants out. Enjoy your dysfunctional franchise's return to the basement, because it's coming. You guys know the basement pretty well.
subatomic Verified Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I can't believe so many posters over at the Orioles Hangout actually believe this garbage. I don't agree with them. I would take Bautista and Hoffman for DD. Would prefer Donaldson but would settle for Bautista. Make it happen Mr. Rodgers.
subatomic Verified Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 One good thing may have come out of this. I never really thought the Jays had a real rival (20 years without the playoffs can do that), but maybe now the Jays/Orioles can spill their hatred for each other on the field. The fans already hate each other, and now the front offices hate each other. Not a chance. So many Yankees and Red Sox fans come to Camden Yards and be obnoxious we are never going to hate you guys like them.. Also your team never wins any games. It is hard to be mad at a perennial loser.
subatomic Verified Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Don't feel sorry for me pal, you're the Orioles fan. not me All the winning sure suck for us. Plus we don't live in an area no one would ever visit willingly.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 All the winning sure suck for us. Plus we don't live in an area no one would ever visit willingly. You'd be banned if this was pay-to-post bluejayshangout.com. Feels nice to be able to troll a little, no? Also, getting chirped by a team that's probably lost 900 games in the last decade because they were decent for 3 seasons.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I kind of like the idea of a Weeks/Kawasaki 2B platoon. Kawasaki can cover short if Reyes goes down too. Don't want Goins anywhere near the 25-man.
subatomic Verified Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Dan Duquette would have made a huge mistake allowing the Jays to give up Hoffman for him. He would have come here and been instantly hated from the get go. You overvalue Hoffman. No way in heck that the Orioles would have given up DD for only Hoffman. Odds are Hoffman won't amount to anything in the majors.

subatomic Verified Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 And you wouldn't get Hoffman, Pentecost, and Nay for a suit. As if Baltimore didn't have a hard enough time in hiring executives, it should be substantially more difficult when it appears they won't let their emloyess interview for promotions. Well we have a guy for the next 4 years so we will cross that bridge when we get to it. Seems like the Blow Jays are the ones having trouble hiring GM's.
subatomic Verified Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Wonder if it will open up again next year when Beest leaves. If the O's struggle at all, they might blame the distraction and be a little more realistic in their requests (and the Jays can blame Eddie III, who likely won't have much to do with the club moving forward). The Orioles are never going to lower demands. If the Jays wait 4 years they can get DD. Angelos would rather have DD manning the tikcet booth at Camden Yards than let the Jays have him for anything less than prime time players.

subatomic Verified Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Has a non-player ever returned something as valuable as Hoffman? Valuable as Hoffman? Hoffman is a 22 year old who has never thrown a pitch in the minors who is trying to recover from TJ surgery and was not impressive in college. He is the typical bust guy who is overrated because he throws the ball hard. He has the typical bust profile.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Don't feed the troll guys. Just ignore list and move on

Has anyone given up the equivalent of a recently drafted top-10 pick for a non-player?
subatomic Verified Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 On the other hand, Orioles fans should be f***ing pissed off right now. We don't know if Hoffman alone was ever even on the table, but they're all going to believe that he was, and that Angelos said no to just Hoffman, something most of them seemed to be more than okay with as a straight-up trade. Not only that, but after all of them made peace with the idea of losing Duquette, and actually wanted him out at this point, they're going to be stuck with him coming back. I don't think most of use were Ok for DD straight up guy for Hoffman. We had 14 straight years of losing seasons before DD turned up. And he completely turned the franchise around. We have had guys rated better or as good as Hoffman who turned out to be total busts. I am suprised you guys wouldn't want to give up more for DD he has been a winner everywhere he has been while you guys keep missing the playoffs year after year. The laughing stocks of professional sports. Isn't a few playoff trips worth a couple of prospects?

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Not sure why anyone is even responding lol. Should we make a new thread to discuss potential Presidents for next year? This thread is all but gone to s***.
subatomic Verified Member Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Not subtle enough Subtle? We had three top 5 picks in all off baseball pitchers int he last 12 years who have turned out to be total busts Loewen, Hobgood, and Matusz who turned out to be busts. So sorry if your bad draft selection isn't tempting us. He throws hard but didn't have success in college and is 22? He should have been dominating at college as he was older than most of the players. Why in hell would we want to take your mistakes? Sorry your baseball guys don't know talent. If they did they would win once in a while.

Same thing you are doing except I don't have a chick as my avatar and have my location listed as "Your bedroom" that is pretty creepy.
