saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I think Navarro would improve as a framer with less innings behind the plate as they could work with him on it and he would be less worn down but he still won't be good at it. I have a hard time believing he will be of any value to the Jays as a backup catcher. He is only going to be slower and can't play any other position other than C. Not to mention his bat is useless at DH and would be taking away time from using DH to rest guys like Reyes and Bautista... he could take bats away from smoak. He's had better offensive stats the last 3 years. It depends on whether or not smoak bounces back, although Smoak is a lot cheaper.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 They have a payroll north of 250 mil....they better be having a good offseason. One of my favourite stats...the Dodgers are paying the same amount for players no longer on their team as the Marlins payroll (47M or something like that)

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Also plays 1B and is good defensively. his ablity to play first base is definitely a plus. I wouldn't call smoak a good defensive player, but he can play first.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Navarro is not a terrible framer really, he just doesn't care and doesn't f***ing do it. It being a teachable skill (TdA said he spent 100's of hours working on it since arriving with the Mets) when will the Jose Molina school of framing open up?

Technically he hasn't retired yet but someone should approach him about coaching.

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 How dumb is the O's organization? Hoffman, pentecost and Nay, what the f***!!!!!
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Angelos didn't get what he wanted. Ed Rogers didn't get what he wanted. I'd say this is a win-win.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Thank your lucky stars. Walking away was the absolute best case scenario.

For Strasburg? AA do it!!

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Everyone involved in this debacle should be ashamed of themselves.

At this point, probably well deserved. Ed Rogers and whom ever really did F things up. What a gong show this offseason turned into.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Zero chance it's truly over, I can't see Angelos not taking a shot at the Jays getting a tampering fine. Ya, well that would be a waste of time and would go nowhere. I hope it's over, I don't want to lose prospects for a CEO. They can get someone that's available without all that BS.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Thank goodness this is over. Hopefully Eddy learned and will conduct the opening for the President's job in a much better manner. Actually hopefully he stays away from the Blue Jays forever.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Zero chance it's truly over, I can't see Angelos not taking a shot at the Jays getting a tampering fine. Honestly, who cares? I doubt the cost will be bigger than Hoffman.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Thank your lucky stars. Walking away was the absolute best case scenario. Wonder if it will open up again next year when Beest leaves. If the O's struggle at all, they might blame the distraction and be a little more realistic in their requests (and the Jays can blame Eddie III, who likely won't have much to do with the club moving forward).
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Honestly, who cares? I doubt the cost will be bigger than Hoffman. absolutely I think the max is $500K. It was a fun little distraction for the off-season.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 On the other hand, Orioles fans should be f***ing pissed off right now. We don't know if Hoffman alone was ever even on the table, but they're all going to believe that he was, and that Angelos said no to just Hoffman, something most of them seemed to be more than okay with as a straight-up trade. Not only that, but after all of them made peace with the idea of losing Duquette, and actually wanted him out at this point, they're going to be stuck with him coming back.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 O's crappy board comments please!!
rookiefuzz Verified Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Smart call by Rogers to walk. Baltimore has to go home to a much shittier situation that Toronto does. Good luck with you disgruntled GM and your crap-tastic reputation of not letting employees seek promotion to outside organizations. Angelos will have to patch this up somehow and I feel that it will end with DD going to TO within the year. Much like Farrell to the Sox.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Glad it's over, hopefully worse case scenario now is we pay a fine. Status quo this season for front office, look for a president next year again that hopefully we don't have to provide compensation for. I was thinking Jonah Hill might make a good president. He seemed to be a pretty smart guy in money ball and taught Brad Pitt a lot.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Tampering charges would be doing us a favor. It would make Eddie look even worse, and that's a good thing.
Orioles Verified Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 This is just more negotiating through the media. A part of me still doesn't think this is over. Sorry.
