burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Curious, if the target theoretically was Friedman or Zaidi would anyone on here give them a Hoffman/Pentecost for them?
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Curious, if the target theoretically was Friedman or Zaidi would anyone on here give them a Hoffman/Pentecost for them? Yes. At least Friedman. I'm confident that he can transform the entire organization from the President's spot.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Curious, if the target theoretically was Friedman or Zaidi would anyone on here give them a Hoffman/Pentecost for them? I'm probably the biggest Hoffman fan and I'm probably nowhere near as high on Friedman as most of this forum, but I think I'd still make that trade in a heartbeat. Friedman probably gets you back the value you lost within the first week on the job, and the major league roster implications are immediate, whereas Hoffman, even optimistically, is probably two years away.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 CEO's are definitely not a dime a dozen and do require special talent. Having said that, doesn't make sense to give anything of value for DD. Well go ahead, name the list of special talent. Can they pitch? Can they hit? Can they field? Lets hear it. Like I said, CEO's are a dime a dozen, you can promote anyone to that level without having any experience at it.

Yeah same here. Friedman is just that good of a GM that what you give up is gained back in a trade. Look no further than the LA-Miami trade this year.

That would be the difference between a regular CEO (Beeston) and a President of Baseball Operations (Epstein, Friedman). Sure, you can promote whoever you want, but there are guys that provide a more positive impact on the field.

It's like saying you can have 25 men roster filled with only Ryan Goins's, how would that turn out?

Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 lol Bowden When did we start buying into what he is saying? I believe him about as much as I do Beeston's best friend, Mr. McCown.

Goodbye Jeff "PTBNL" Hoffman No way we give up Hoffman. If Ed actually gives up Hoffman this f***in organization is f***ed
flafson Verified Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 The compensation will be some B or C-level prospect...nothing that we're going to lose any sleep over I wouldn't think. I would be pissed with a B prospect. Probably even upset with a C prospect.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Buster Olney If a TOR/Duquette deal is finished, compensation will be substantial. Jeff Hoffman discussed. WFT
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Jim Callis Whoa. I'd take that for GM who wants to go. @Buster_ESPN: If TOR/Duquette deal finished, compensation substantial. Jeff Hoffman discussed.
King Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 This org is about to do something incredibly stupid
baubau Verified Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Dammit Ang, you jinxed it! Please don't ruin a good offseason...
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Chris Crawford I'm not sure there's a single executive in baseball that'd be worth a healthy Jeff Hoffman.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Dan Szymborski I'd much rather have Jeff Hoffman than Dan Duquette. But I'd also rather have Dan Duquette than one of those awful retreads O's want.
Governator Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Just because he's been discussed doesn't mean he's been offered.
King Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Just because he's been discussed doesn't mean he's been offered. Lets hope the discussion went something like this.. Orioles: "We want Jeff Hoffman" Blue Jays: "NO."
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Ed Rogers is the point man on this. Probably doesn't know who Jeff Hoffman is...
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Could be olney pushing his own agenda. I remember him writing an article of how executives should be worth premier prospects. With that said though I'm still terrified at the thought of what this FO is capable of.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Lets hope the discussion went something like this.. Orioles: "We want Jeff Hoffman" Blue Jays: "NO." Orioles: Smoral and Tirado? Blue Jays: Deal!! (AA mind "Smoral and Tirado can't throw strikes. We won") Smoral and Tirado top-100 prospects by the end of the year.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Hell f***ing no to Hoffman. I'd rather give Cito the job.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Hoffman, Osuna, Smoral, Labourt, Pentecost we are in danger. f*** Rogers!
