Is that the type of curve you use to smash as a mature student against 15 & 16 year olds?

15 and 16 year olds play on the under 18 team and there are under 21 teams as well. . nice try though. completely different system in Europe. more like american college teams where your team has to qualify to play in a division. the bottom teams drop out and top teams from lower divisions move up.

let me know if you need to be schooled again. I'll see if I have time and if I dont I'm sure there are 15 and 16 year old kids who can

Did we actually use any money to sign him? If it's the usual 1-5k then the more the better.

1.25M. AA must see something special here.

It says that he signed a 7 year contract, doesn't say a number.

If he did sign for a lot of money, does it go from the international pool or is it separate?

I know, I wasn't citing that as a source for a, frankly, obscene amount of money, just an article on the subject.

I would assume that, given his age, it comes from the intl. bonus pool. I also assume it's not nearly the amount mentioned above.

I been trying to go over the rules in regards to international amateurs going against the money pool and couldn't find anything about Europe, it seems like MLB is creating individual agreements with countries who provide talent and so far that has mostly been Latin America. If i'm right, it's very possible that whatever we gave him doesn't go against any pool money.

It indeed does. So is this guy good or something?

My guess is: Probably the best Belgium has to offer. I have no idea what that means in the context of actual baseball.

Hopefully this means there'll be a chocolate-based promotion or something.

7 year contract is the standard for minor leaguers.

Somebody probably put the decimal in the wrong spot. I'm thinking it's $125k

Lol, like Harold in Suits. That would make sense.

Some things about that article

- Seems like they will give him two years at minimum in the org., then decide if they want to keep him or release him. Wonder if that's standard for the Blue Jays?

- Lol @ Sam thinking he could be sent to the Dominican Republic. Poor guy.

This doesn't seem that uninformed to me. He said he either goes to Florida (rookie ball) or the DR for one of their seasonal leagues. Isn't that the way it usually works for raw talents?

He'll be in the GCL. Sending him to the DSL would be very hard on the guy.

Edit: He's 19 already, so he would be somewhat old for the DSL level. He's also not Dominican or Spanish speaking (assuming).. So he would have quite the culture change being sent to the DSL and another one when they would eventually promote him to the US.

I would bet my life savings he'll be in the USA when he starts pro ball.

The GCL may simply be too much for him to handle from a competition standpoint. Its hard to really gauge his talent-level, but given the fact that there isn't much national reporting of this signing he doesn't appear to be a kid who is expected to hop over to the USA and compete immediately, especially considering that our minor league system is bottom heavy and thus there will be competition for a GCL roster spot. Is a kid from Belgium really going to deserve those at-bats over some equally intriguing kid in our system from Latin America?

There would be a culture shock for him going to the DR, but that is no different than any kid from the DR/Venezuela hopping over to the USA every year. The second culture shock you talk about (DR to USA) is overblown as Belgium is a very developed Western country. They learn English there and an educated 19 year old like himself can likely already speak English at a passable level.

I don't think he'll struggle too much in going to the US, unless he's sent to redneck ville he shouldn't have a problem. Maybe the DR will be tougher but I really think people overestimate the culture change factor.

Extended spring training, short season ball is my guess for where he winds up.

Really going out on a limb!
