gbill2004 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 @jonmorosi: Blue Jays have had trade discussions with Astros on Dexter Fowler. He is a switch-hitter; Jays would like to get more left-handed.
TRM Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Considering what Luhnow wanted for Bud Norris, I'd be hesitant at what this would cost. With that being said, this would be an interesting option. He can take a walk well, switch hits, decent D (at least I think, haven't looked it up.) What's his contract at?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Gross Whaaaaaat? I would love to have Fowler as a LF/DH part-time CF. His OBP would slot beautifully at the top of the order.

Arbitration projected value of $9 million.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Defensively poor for some reason. -52.6 runs for his career, -20.6 in 2014. But steals a few bases. Rajai Davis with less speed?
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 @SNJeffBlair: For what it's worth, @ShiDavidi has been talking up a Dexter Fowler deal for over a month.

I think you can get league-average production from LF a lot more efficiently than trading for a year of Fowler.

Average defender at best, but you can hide him in LF. OBP skills would bode well.
43211234 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 A John Paul Morosi rumour about the Blue Jays? I'm sure it will come to fruition.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Nevermind, not great D. Can't be worse than Melky
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 What the hell happened to his UZR? Inside Edge didn't think he was too bad.
TRM Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I want him. Poor Pompey Wouldn't Fowler just play LF and then stick with the Pompey in CF plan? Non-tendering Dirks might depend on this.
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 He owns a good career .366 OBP and he can be moved to LF to improve his defense? (not sure where hes weak defensively) and with a $9 million salary, is it outside the realm to possibly offer him arb next year and gain a comp pick?
baloojayz Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Fowler/Markakis + Lowrie Then focus on trading Happ+Navarro for bullpen help, move Sanchez to Starting rotation. DONE
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I want him. Poor Pompey[/QUOT. . LOL.. Pompey is the starting CF next year, 99% guaranteed.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Yeah, if the Jays get Fowler it will be to play LF. I doubt anyone is moving Pompey out of starting CF except maybe Pillar, but that's unlikely too. I don't think they want Pompey in the minors.

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 He's not that much better than Melky. Maybe not even better. Maybe worse!!!! Also not that cheap... arb4 this year and made over $7M in 2014. Salary + prospects = real cost for a mediocre dude.
TRM Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I'm sure someone has barked up this tree but since I just showed up, why not Saunders if we are gonna trade for someone. Much maple boners.
baloojayz Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Shields? Would be nice but we're broke, plus I'm not a fan of chasing pitchers via FA

Much maple boners. Saunders has been discussed a lot on the board. He's pretty much the most popular alternative to a big money option.
