Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Excellent quotes by AA. He got the order down right IMO. Adressing LF and 2B is more important than improving the rotation.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Ichiro? Aoki? Trade for Bruce? Not a chance in hell. Re sign Melky would be best to fill LF, if not, signing Nick Markakis to man LF would be the next best option. Scrappy left handed bat who has always proved to have the ability to get on base. He'd also provide the best defence from any of the other choices.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 For my money, there are worse options out there than having Ichiro in Left field. Doesn't strike out a lot, good team guy, past his prime, but still gets a few hits here and there. I like that kind of safe play at 9, especially if the offsetting funds can be geared towards 2B and the focus of the trade market should be towards acquiring relief pitching
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Now that I think about it further, AA's next move will be signing Markakis ( 3/39). Defence seems to be his train of thought this off season so far.
nutz003 Verified Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I agree that resigning Melky is the best choice, signing Markakis is a good option as well, but Aoki would my 2nd as he has a similar OBP to Cabrera, and a decent defender, and is likely cheaper than Markakis. Would be happy with any of the 3 though.

labadee Verified Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 He just told us Millers out. I think that's a good thing. Getting in a bidding war over a reliever is dumb. Trade navarro for some bullpen help
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 He just told us Millers out. Grilli 2 years 7 mil...go do it. I would love to have Morrow back in a bullpen role if he would get out of the way of his ego and realize he's not a starter anymore.
nutz003 Verified Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Agreed. Ichiro would be a great LF option as well. Could be a good DH as well. Still hits .280+. We definitely don't have to have one with power considering current lineup.

nutz003 Verified Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Good point. You could probably get a decent RP for Navarro.

If he agrees to relieve, he might be the best one out there.

I would agree if Ichiro was Chinese or Korean. The Japanese population in Toronto is very small. ...pass on Ichiro he's pretty much replacement level at this point in his career.

Guys, stop with the Asian population will buy tickets ******** if we get this guy and Canadians will love it if we get so and so...........field a f***in competitive team and the tickets will sell!!! Book it.

We definitely don't have to have one with power considering current lineup. If we are looking to go on the cheap in Lf and save money for elsewhere I suggested this as well before! Another option is Denaforia, numbers might improve in the Rc, lil more power and can spell pompey as well.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 We have enough offense on the team even if Goins, Pillar and Pompey start for this team! Upgrade the pitching now! What is payroll sitting at now?
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Jim Duquette Verified account @Jim_Duquette Alex Anthopoulos - just told us there next focus is LF, 2B, and relief pitching @MLBNetworkRadio ugh, why go all in and ignore a medicore pitching staff?
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 ugh, why go all in and ignore a medicore pitching staff? Pitching staff is good with room for Hutch and Stroman to improve. Norris, Sanchez and Marco Estrada as depth pieces.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Can somebody smarter than me PLEASE make a thread explaining that our starting rotation is fine? Too many people here think that our most important need is 1 or even 2 more starters.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Pitching staff is good with room for Hutch and Stroman to improve. Norris, Sanchez and Marco Estrada as depth pieces. Lots of question marks...and if everything breaks right, which is unlikely.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I still think Aoki and Lowrie is what this team needs. Guys that will be relatively cheap and provide around 1.5 to 2 WAR. Would leave us with a lineup like this: SS-Reyes-S LF-Aoki-L RF-Bautista-R DH-Encarnacion-R 3B-Donaldson-R C-Martin-R 2B-Lowrie-S 1B-Smoak/Valencia CF-Pompey-S That is an excellent lineup all-around. Speed, contact, OBP, and MASSIVE power at the centre. And then we have Dirks, Pillar, Travis, Kawasaki, Izturis, Goins and others as depth.

What is payroll sitting at now? we have enough offense if everyone stays healthy. If Jose and reyes went down our offense would not look so hot. Filling either a 2nd baseman or leftfielder with a quality major league player is still important.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Apparently he's out on high priced relievers like Andrew Miller. Good news.

Too many people here think that our most important need is 1 or even 2 more starters. those that feel the rotation is fine feel that hutch, stro, dickey and buehrle will all be sub 4 ERA guys. That leaves a spot for Norris or Sanchez to see if they can join the other group. Happ is a fallback and a mid season trade is possible to sort it out if things don't work out. Ideally yeah...one more starter. I'd look to Liriano myself.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 What do you think it would require to land Cole Hamels? Obviously a package starting with Aaron Sanchez+++ Also, the Phillies have always loved JA Happ, so I'm sure they'd have interest. Hamels Dickey MB Stroman Hutchison Depth: Estrada, Redmond, Hendricks, Drabek, Norris (if not traded) That's a sick rotation 1 through 5.

Too many people here think that our most important need is 1 or even 2 more starters. You can't hurt having another starter - you never know with young starters like Stroman and Hutch, and it's not like Dickey or MB are top-of-the-rotation arms. Adding someone like Hamels, who is a No. 1 starter and has shown no signs of decline would be huge. If it doesn't happen, I think the Jays rotation will be fine though if they are going all in for 2015/2016, then a Cole Hamels is much more valuable than a Aaron Sanchez + other prospects.
