Any pitchers on the trade market? You have to figure an assset like Boogers could land you pretty much any pitcher from a team looking to rebuild.

Hamels, any Padres arm, one Cincinnati arm...

Sign Lester and Melky. Trade away Happ, Dickey, Navarro, and Thole. That's about 25 mill out and about 35 mill in.

I never understood AA's fascination with 3 catchers, giving Dickey his personal catcher. It takes up a valuable roster spot that can be used for a defensive replacement or another pinch runner in a tight game. Trade Navarro to Texas for Profar, and unload Dickey and Thole; maybe to CHW, with 3 LHP's, they could use a RHP and a decent catcher.

I don't understand the Navarro to Texas talk. Robinson Chirinos is a much better starting catcher and a much, much better catcher for the money (half mil).

The Red Sox were quite well set up for their future. Already. As much as it doesn't seem to make sense to many...there is a good chance that Xander (who has 3 options) starts in AAA. He's projected to be a little better in 2015 but still not likely to be better than either Sandoval or Hanley next year. So Xander is your emergency blanket in the minors (and a damn good one) for two guys that have injury history. Hanley is signed at or below market for him so he's able to be dealt (assuming he didn't get a no trade). While I think the signings are overkill for depth (depth isn't about keeping positive assets from playing). There is no deeper team in baseball. Getting pitching will not be an issue for them and I like 5 of the guys they currently have.

Gotta admit, Boston's lineup is looking pretty nasty now.

Pedroia

Hanley

Sandoval

Ortiz

Cespedes

Napoli

Craig

Bogaerts

Betts

FUUUUCK.

Their pitching is garbage though

EDIT: Forgot about the Catcher... Probably swap Boogers for David Ross. Still that lineup is nasty

Thats the thing why would you sign both Hanley and Panda when you know that you need to upgrade your rotation. There lineup would be dangerous even if you took one of those guys out. Then add Lester to the Rotation or even Shields and you would be set up better..... Just don't get it... Blue Jays proved time and time again you can't win with all Hitting no Pitching.

If Rusney is as advertised and starting in CF. Then their bench/depth looks better than several lineups in baseball

Allen Craig

Brock Holt

Daniel Nava

Xander Bogaerts

Garin Cecchini

Mookie Betts

Jackie Bradley Jr.

Bryce Brentz

Blake Swihart

Travis Shaw

Sean Coyle

Will Middlebrooks

All of those guys are on the 40 man and don't have a starting job at this time.

Navarro for profar? LOL

Now's the time to go hard after Yasmani Tomas.

Yes, especially if it's down to Padres/Giants. No reason why we should not be in on him especially if the bidding on Melks gets too high.

I have to think they're loading up to make a big trade, like possibly Hamels.

"Olney on ESPN says in the last 24-48 hours, while SF kept increasing their offers, he told them there was nothing else they could do."

This is how you know you're a real team.

The Sox will add a big name pitcher, anyone who thinks they are done with major upgrades is hilarious.

They'll need two if they want to beat status quo.

Retaining Lester is not enough.

Vasquez seems like a much better catcher. He is Sal Perez defensively and a great receiver. He can't hit much but he doesn't have to.

It feels to me like last year the Red Sox got too frustrated watching young players not perform. What will be more interesting is seeing what they will do with the rotation. It seems like they pretty much have to trade bats for pitching.

Agreed. The patience isn't there in Boston for long term development.

This is shaping up to be an interesting offseason for the AL East. Boston is stocking up on offensive players, both through development and FA, while the Jays have been developing a lot of pitchers over the last few years. It seems that Boston is going to use it's surplus of position players to get pitchers, while the Jays will have to do the opposite. Time will tell what assets will be worth more, young pitchers or hitters, but I'm guessing the latter.

Boston is taking a big risk though, as Ramirez is injury prone and on the wrong side of 30, while Sandoval doesn't have the body type that historically holds up well, so they could be sinking a lot of payroll in the near future into players not performing up to their salaries (Ortiz included, assuming he starts to decline at some point).

Jays still need to do a lot of work though...

I was crushed when the Dodgers bailed them out. $250 million has been earmarked for Beckett, Crawford and Gonzalez, and they LAD just handed them a get-out-of-stupid free card.

Hopefully, they haven't learned their lesson, and will load up with more bad contracts.

I would seriously love it, if we traded them Buehrle and Dickey, and got some great prospects in return, even if it signalled a rebuilding phase for us.

Kinda reminds me of how the Blue Jays bailed out Miama....... no more massive Reyes / Buehrle contracts, and injury-prone hasbeen Josh Johnson

I think with the money difference (especially Buehrle), we wouldn't get great prospects from them. I'd have to wonder if a Buehrle for Cespedes trade might be something they'd do though.

Given the character questions about Cespedes recently and our "remodeling" to seemingly eliminate them, I'm not sure it's a trade our front office would do.

Damn that's a f***ing good lineup next year and lol at their depth, but geez, their starting defense is gonna be pretty s***, outside of Sandoval, Pedroia and maybe Betts.
