burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Sounds like the deal is all but done. Deal is around 5/90 according to Ken R. Price seems lower than I initially thought but I still wouldn't of done it I don't think.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Hope Boston has fun watching him overthrow, bobble, and miss balls from SS or 3B, wherever he plays. Could be a sign Sandoval has chosen to stay with the Giants.. unless Boston plans to put HanRam in LF and Sandoval at 3B. Regardless, HanRam's defense his horrid..
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Good deal for the Sox in my opinion even if Hanley plays lf.

I think Redsox are trying to capture the same Ortiz/ManRam magic with these guys.

Sounds like he could be going to LF. Anyone can play LF in Fenway it seems but even then it will be interesting.

SAAviour Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Teams are getting smarter. I thought he'd get more then that.

The deal more likely means Sandoval has decided to resign with the Giants. If Boston's signing him to play LF, Cherington has no real plan.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 That's well below market value. Wow.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 RedSox are quickly becoming way better than the Jays again
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 What does this mean for Melky Cabrera if HanRam will play LF for Red Sox? I would think he can forget about getting 5 years.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Author Posted November 24, 2014 Teams are getting smarter. I thought he'd get more then that. Thats my thought as well. I think we've seen the end of the Prince Fielder contract that runs in to the late 30s.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Still need pitchers. Well lets see if they are able to bring back Lester
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 A month ago, I wouldn't have believed that Martin and Hanley would sign for basically the same contract.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 A month ago, I wouldn't have believed that Martin and Hanley would sign for basically the same contract. 4/60 for Martin and probably an Ellsbury-ish deal for Hanley.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Author Posted November 24, 2014 A month ago, I wouldn't have believed that Martin and Hanley would sign for basically the same contract. I still would rather have Martin at the same money.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 I still would rather have Martin at the same money. I don't think the red sox are done just yet. Hanley is signed until he's 35, and apparently he was asking for 130-150m when he was with the dodgers. It's a solid signing for the red sox if it's really 5/90 that's for sure, he's still a solid hitter. No one thought Hanley would go that cheap at the start off the offseason, and no one thought Martin would get 5 years either.

Its definitely less than I expected and Martin got more than I expected but all I'm saying is I would rather have Martin. Martin is barely a year older and I think Martin will age better than Hanley.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 well f*** that's a pretty good deal for them. hopefully age catches up with him sooner rather than later

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Great signing for the sox, but Hanley still has injury and defense problems and that will only get worse as he gets older.
Key22 Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 So the question is "would we rather have Ramirez or Reyes at this point going forward?" 3 years at $70million (including $4million buyout) or 5 years at $90million of Ramirez? The career .873 OPS of Ramirez looks pretty good to me - and you can always dump him in left or make him a DH. Reyes is hopeless defensively - although he might actually be decent in left given he has a strong arm. Indeed, the Jays should look for a premier defensive gamer shortstop and move Reyes to left sooner than later - Reyes can be our Ricky Henderson.

Sandoval to Red Sox too. 5 years 100m http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/11/24/report-pablo-sandoval-and-the-red-sox-agree-to-a-five-years-deal-at-close-to-100-million/

Key22 Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Okay now AA must counter - Scherzer 7 years 180million and John Lester 7 years $162 million. C'mon Rogers - go crazy just for fun. It's only money - put the Rogers bills up 10%.
