burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 On right now. One of the more interesting things so far is Castro coming to Spring Training. Edit: AA also says thinks Martin can catch Dickey and is athletic enough to handle the knuckleball and after reps should be able to do it.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 AA said that signing Martin was more about 2016 and beyond than 2015. Said that Navarro is an FA next year and that the catcher market next year is crap

Castro w/ a mlb spring training invite came out a couple of weeks ago, in a shi Davidi article. It also said Castro has a chance to move quickly this year, and could be in the MLB bullpen by the end of the season.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 Miguel Castro? yes.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Miguel Castro? Yes. AA said that they feel he is on the same level as Nolin
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Miguel Castro? I posted it in the LODL thread and was mocked for it lol

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 AA just talked about the perceived "Tax issue" with FAs signing with the Jays. Said a big study was done by the org about 10 yrs ago and it concluded that Toronto is mid-pack for taxes in MLB cities. Said that alot of Agents are uninformed, and that he needs to do a better job of making agents understand that the tax thing is overblown
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 AAs thoughts on a bullpen were very refreshing. Was talking about how most big time contracts that go to relievers are not often rewarding for the team

Said that alot of Agents are uninformed, and that he needs to do a better job of making agents understand that the tax thing is overblown Its because players are taxed for where they are. Pretty sure if the team plays 3 games in LA then players get taxed on California rates for those 3 days. Only about half the season is played in Toronto so they only get taxed for that time spent there.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Embarrassing that an executive in charge of procuring high-priced employees, and negotiating contracts involving substantial, and varied, financial obligations hasn't been properly addressing a well known potential (negatively) differentiating factor such as taxes. Holy s***. Then again, should be used to it by now. He's consistently at least a couple years behind in getting the light bulb to turn on and announce it to the world. Maybe we shouldn't get injury prone players. Oh really? (and then he obtains an uber-injury-prone player in Travis). The agents should be the embarrassed ones. Its their responsibility to know the pros and cons of each of the 30 cities. It's pretty ridiculous that they have no idea about the taxes in Toronto.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Based on AA's MLB Network interview, I wouldn't be surprised if they're pretty much done for the offseason in terms of major names. This forum probably won't handle that news well, lol.

I think AA is planning on going with Izturis at second and keeping one of the fringe infielders on the bench (ie Goins) and Travis in AAA.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I'm fine with that. Saunders isn't a big name and neither is Headley That would be so unbelievably perfect.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 The main thing I got from the interview is AA talked about how he views FRONTLINE starters as one of the main keys to Playoff success. Hopefully he realizes MB and Dickkkay are not frontline guys.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Stroman is and Hutch could be. yesterday he argued that you don't need an "ace" to make the playoffs. he needs to make up his mind what his cover story is going to be.

Those two statements don't contradict each other. You don't need an ace to make the playoffs, An ace helps you succeed in the playoffs. The Orioles and Giants are good examples.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Finally listened to the whole interview and all I have to say is... "I think what makes him so good at framing balls is the fact that he's got those soft hands" - AA 2014.
