TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 no way AA goes for it, saunders has good potential but isn't a sure thing either id rather go after aoki or markakis who only cost money, no draft pick/prospect/mlb piece play better defence and base running then melky for sure, high OBP guys to hit #2 in front of JB/EE Aoki's a decent target. I don't see him as a player on a world series calibre team, but he just went to the WS with the Royals so what do I know. Markakis will cost too much.
READERsince2006 Verified Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Lot's of options with the Russell Martin signing, yeah it was a bit of an overpay and long in length but it was exactly what the doctor ordered for this team. His bat and defensive prowess are going to be immeasurable assets but more importantly it provides flexibility for AA. He could shop Navarro or Happ (maybe both together), he could shop the Dickey/Thole combo, we can resign Melky but less pressure to do so now (Markakis would be a great plan B, I'm less sold on Aoki). Heck because of this Martin signing I would even be content with starting Goins at 2B believe it or not*, the infield D (with the odd Reyes blunder) would be shored up and Martin's framing and arm is going to elevate this rotation, if we can add another front end starter we'll be laughing! *I know Goins AB's would be a problem but I think we can live with it if we resign Melk or get Markakis. I hated the Lind trade and losing some pop but this Martin signing has opened a lot of doors and options, hopefully AA will capitalize.. I wish we would have kept lind and platooned him with valencia, goins is a blackhole in the lineup but yes solid defence i hope we can snag drew for cheap, maybe a full spring and season helps him rebound, use him till the all star break and bring up travis, trade him to another team needing a SS or 2B, not sure how his defence at SS rates but I'm sure he would be an adequate addition at 2B for a reasonable price, not sure if mean old scott boras and AA/beast can get along

Yeah for the right price Drew would be decent. I'd love Zobrist but I won't hold my breath on that one..

Zobrist would be amazing but yea not sure i would wanna pay the prospect price tag TB would want, if the jays trade Happ then estrada probably takes his spot, martin is good with pitchers but probably not this good lol, maybe the homers are an outlier but id rather try to trade him or DFA him rather then use him as a 5million non closer/swingman when we have jenkins/hendricks linds attitude and lack of versatility got him axed, but I'm intrigued by smoaks away numbers and potential at RC in a deep lineup so we will have to see how this plays out id love the jays to make a run at LaRoche, platoon with valencia a bit, good pop and decent defence at 1B

JTech780 Verified Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Unfortunately we can pretty much rule signing Lester or Scherzer, as they are going to get 6+ year contracts. Blue Jays policy is to not sign any contract longer than 5 years. I wonder if a package where Navarro is included to the Dodgers for Alex Guerrero would work. There is a lot of good bullpen arms in free agency this year. If we are going to go with a younger rotation we better have a very strong bullpen. Miller or Robertson would be good anchors but are going to be costly. Instead we could sign a couple of guys like Motte, Hochevar, Grilli, Romo, Lindstrom and one of them could end up being as good as Miller.

LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Care to elaborate? I'm just going to assume you're another CHP persona, so no.
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 The Dodgers are smart now. http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Pakled
JTech780 Verified Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 I'm just going to assume you're another CHP persona, so no. What is a CHP? We have a need at 2B hence Guerrero, the Dodgers have Gordon so where does Guerrero fit? They need more offense at the catching position hence Navarro.
Nox Verified Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 No way the Dodgers would trade for a replacement level catcher with Friedman and Zaidi. Yea. I mean, I'm sure Navarro is going to be moveable but I highly doubt those two would be the ones to derp on in.
JTech780 Verified Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 No way the Dodgers would trade for a replacement level catcher with Friedman and Zaidi. Fair enough, but I can't see the Dodgers going into the season with the catchers they currently have. Ellis and Butera are very good defensive catchers but there is zero offense there.

JTech780 Verified Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 The fact that you are trying to refer to CHP as a what instead of a who makes me believe you ARE CHP, nice try though Or it could mean that I just found this forum today and am not familiar with who people are or what acronyms people use on this forum. Either way works for me as you obviously don't have anything important to add to any discussion so I can just go ahead and add you to my ignore list.
JTech780 Verified Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 lol you've got an ignore list? First day? lol apparently, I had to scramble after I posted that to make sure that this forum had an ignore list. I just came here to have a discussion about my favorite team, that's all. So if LA isn't going to go for Navarro, who is? I am sure packaging him can, get us infield or outfield help.

Seriously, it's like dealing with my 4 year old. Daddy Moogy: "Didn't I just tell you not to touch that?" Lil Moogy, Take 2: "Yes." Daddy Moogy: "So when I told you not to touch that, what did that mean?" Lil Moogy, Take 2: "Not to touch it." Daddy Moogy: "So then why did you touch it?" Lil Moogy, Take 2: "I don't know." Agreed. And do you always play by the "rules"?

Extend Edwin Encarnacion. Rotation: Scherzer Dickey Stroman Hutchison Happ/Sanchez Lineup: Reyes Martin Encarnacion Norris Lowrie/Travis Moss Lawrie/Valencia Pompey Jed Lowrie is a free agent so we can sign him, which wouldn't be a terrible idea if he can play 2nd. Though on MLB Radio they were saying that people inside of the A's front office were saying that Lowrie's defense at 2nd is even worse than is defense at SS. Jon Lester is a long shot to come to Toronto, Max Scherzer is absolutely not coming to Toronto. It will most likely take more than 5 years to sign either pitcher and as per club policy they don't sign players to contracts longer than 5 years. Scherzer is represented by Scott Boras who doesn't have a good working relationship with the Blue Jays. I just don't see it happening. I would be overjoyed to get either. I think someone like Jason Hammel might be more getable.

Nox Verified Member Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Its not if you free up cash and actually sign scherzer or lester Fun fact: Jose Bautista is a better player than Scherzer or Lester. He also is on a much better contract (from the team's perspective). To clear his money to sign a worse, more volatile asset is a pretty terrible idea.
