Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 if gose improves his hitting in the future jays lose this trade Do you want to evaluate results? Win-Win trade. No matter what!!
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Yeah, people are sleeping on Gose, IMO. If he improves his offense even modestly, he's probably a 2 win player based on defense and base running alone, and he's still young enough to improve beyond that. It's still a good trade for Toronto as Travis fills a huge need and may end up being a 2-3 win player himself, but Gose is not as bad as some people think.
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 When Gose tries to bunt you'd swear he's holding a toothpick for a bat.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Author Posted November 14, 2014 I would really love Stephen Drew on a one year pillow contract. Should come cheap and has a great chance to rebound and more importantly when the Jose Reyes likely injury happens we can slide Drew over to SS and plug in Travis and we won't be f***ed. Also creates a bridge to Travis. Hopefully we can make nice with Boras. Drew probably sees this too. If no one else wants him this could happen but seems like he could get a better job somewhere else.
JaysRap Verified Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Here's a picture of him after getting hit in the face with a pitch. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BlmdJqWCEAAcpls.jpg It looks like the ball is still in his mouth.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Everth and Izturis at 2B while Travis gets some AAA experience would be ideal, even if the Jays have to trade for him instead of wait for him to be non-tendered. Then when Reyes gets hurt, they can slide Cabrera over to short and call up Travis. Having Travis as depth instead of relying on him right off the bat would be better, although if he comes out guns blazing in Spring Training, then go with the hot hand.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Drew probably sees this too. He won't have a ton of suitors after the s***** season he had last year (.162/.237/.299, negative 1.1 WAR) Good buy low candidate for sure. No one hurt himself more by declining the a qualifying offer than he did.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I don't think the Jays will be doing business with Boras while Beeston is around so while Ddew would be a great fit, it's not going to happen. Drew at short and Reyes at 2B would be great, though.

True And although Reyes to 2B would make us happy, the fact that AA got Travis to presumably be our best shot at "2B of the future" suggests little chance they move Reyes from short.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 We could actually pick up both Morales and Drew on the super cheap and then throw a bunch of money at Martin and that would make for an interesting roster with tons of upside.

Reyes Cabrera/Aoki Bautista Edwin DH Martin Drew Lawrie Pompey
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Kendry Morales says hello (Another good buy low IMO too) Why? We fired a DH and you want to hire a new DH?
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Why? We fired a DH and you want to hire a new DH? We fired a platoon DH making ok money. We would be hiring a switch hitting DH for peanuts who was victom of the BABIP monster/safecoe/late start. Hell....he might not even get a guaranteed contract.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Why are we talking about Everth Cabrera? Ewwwwwwww
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Morales for the same money as Lind would be better value purely on the fact that he won't need a platoon partner. If you could get Morales for less than Lind money, then you have to consider it. Even if he is only a 1.5 win player in a typical year that's pretty much as good as Lind is, except you won't need a platoon partner attached.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Does Beeston really hate Boras to the point that he will not negotiate with him? That's pathetic and petty. I wonder what Beeston would do if Bautista or any key player on this team switched agents.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 We should move Reyes to DH and get someone who can play SS. Maybe even move Reyes to LF
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Whomever mentioned Stephen Drew? I like that option.
shortstop Verified Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Reyes would pout, then cry, then pout. He ain't moving from SS. He looks a lot better at short (or perhaps we just don't notice his limited range) when that stud of a 3B defensively Lawrie is next to him. AA has said he wants that DH spot open to give guys a day off so that's why I don't see AA having any interest in Morales.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Wonder if Florida would trade us Hechavarria straight up for Reyes. Doubt it.

Reyes provides more value as a mediocre defensive SS than he does anywhere else. He was a bad acquisition but what's done is done. Jays fans just need to deal.

After that blockbuster trade where everyone thought (at the time) that we totally fleeced the Marlins... and now, next year the Marlins will most likely make the play-offs and the Blue Jays most likely won't. Meanwhile Reyes and Buehrle are sleeping in mattresses full of $$ P.S.> Reyes is a loser.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 If we agreed to pay the buyout, do the Yankees take Reyes for free? I mean, pay him $66M for three years and give up nothing in return?
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 lmao @ Reyes to DH. He's actually an above-average shortstop.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 There's more to it. Would DHing Atleast during home games not keep him healthier, more productive and in the lineup? He could be one of the best lead off guys in baseball if healthy

Meanwhile Reyes and Buehrle are sleeping in mattresses full of $$ P.S.> Reyes is a loser. Baseball people didn't think it was a fleecing, from a pure baseball trade value stand point the Marlins did quite well. The outcry was because of how the Marlins handled FA signings the year before, their stadium issue, and Loria being a dishonest snake. The Marlins traded Buerhle and Reyes who had contracts that exceeded market value (due to very low year 1 salaries), Josh Johnson who was a valuable asset, but only had 1 more year of control, and Bonafacio who was a pretty solid 2b/UTIL guy, and got multiple useful, young, controllable pieces. Buerhle and Reyes, in theory, should've had negative trade value at the time of the deal.

He could be one of the best lead off guys in baseball if healthy So half of his games are played as a DH? He suddenly becomes an average to below average hitter, and you lose any value from positional adjustment even if you keep him healthy longer, which is not even close to a guarantee. You might as well keep him at shortstop.

You might as well keep him at shortstop. Half his games is way too much. If the trade off for a few DH starts is more healthy shortstop starts, it's a good trade off but it shouldn't be more than a day game after night game kind of thing.
