kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 not sure what Martin will command but my goodness, if you have a chance to sign him, sign him. Trade Navarro and his what, $5M contract & live with Thole as your backup. Martin knows how to win & the jays need more of these guys. You have to think Martin gets close to McCann money, not as much but I think a 4 year deal at 15 mil is the least he gets.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 I discussed banging Scarlett Johansson a few years ago. Didn't work out though. There is still time...don't let a little restraining order hold you back. As for Martin, it's the one value free agent I actually picture AA considering, after all he might see the PR spin of signing another Canadian. No matter how much some little birdie is in his ear about Martin's overall value though, I just don't see AA truly buying in.

xposbrad Verified Member Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Would you guys be happy if this team signed him for 15m/yr and he hit like he did in 2011, 2012, and 2013?
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Would you guys be happy if this team signed him for 15m/yr and he hit like he did in 2011, 2012, and 2013? Who was the last guy projected to hit .240 but got 15/yr? BJ Upton. But in all honesty, I like Martin but he will be 32 when the season starts. It's odd that a lot of people are advocating signing him when historically they've been opposed to giving 30 somethings a big contract. You want to be paying him over 15 million when he's 36? I don't know if that's the best investment.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Sign Martin 14-15 AAV and pay 5M for a BackUp catcher (Navarro)...Nice deal!!
Statman Verified Member Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 This is a sign that Alex Anthopolous is executing my off season plan to almost my exact standards. Bwahahahahah! I called these sets of moves a while back. Make it happen AA!

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Canadians up the Middle, Martin,Lawrie and Pompey! The new MLP line, Many likes please!
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Why would we want to? because he's a good hitter and we have no replacement?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 The Giants have had a lot of conversations with Sandoval about his weight, but his postseason prowess puts the Giants in a position where they will have to compete for his services. Besides the Red Sox and Giants, the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox appear most interested in Sandoval, but that list is expected to grow.

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Oh god please let him go to Boston. For a 6 year deal he better not come here.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 AA grab Headley while everyone is talking to Sandoval

This has the Moogie "I am an elite and will judge the low brow opinions of the commoners" vibe. If you believe in God it is justifiable to appreciate how God originally made her. If you believe in Evolution it is justifiable to appreciate how Evolution originally made her. Perhaps you think Monsanto made her that way by feeding her Genetically modified s*** with too much growth hormone?? then OK. Perhaps it is a good idea she had radical surgery to undo the damage Monsanto caused.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 AA grab Headley while everyone is talking to Sandoval Headley 2Ys > Sandoval 6Yrs
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Headley 2Ys > Sandoval 6Yrs absolutely no doubt but would he come to play in TO. I think for us to upgrade the infield we will have to sign a cuban.

I think Headley will go to whichever team loses out on Pablo, so either the Giants or Red Sox. I hope he goes to the Giants, because I don't think Pablo's body holds up as he ages, so I wouldn't mind Boston overpaying for Sandoval. I'm on the "give Martin whatever he wants" bandwagon. Of course, I also realize the Jays won't do a damn thing that's noteworthy, so reality has a way of crushing such things.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 I have no idea what the Jays will do but the best target for us was Kendrick and he can block a trade to us . Also with the deals Dipoto made for pitching he mat not deal him.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Cubans are so hot right now!! http://capitalventured.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/hansel.gif Not a huge fan of Cuban ball players but right now they are most of the FA middle infielders available. If Fernandez shows up then i would bite the bullet and try and sign him. If not then how healthy is Oliveras
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 The time to get him was 2 years ago when his value was down. I remember a few of us were saying we should sign him but there were others who were saying he was in decline and that we just wanted him cause he was Canadian. I wish I could find that thread now. lol not getting Martin 2 years ago was a huge mistake. My only question is how many more games his body will hold up. getting him might take a deal for to many years.
GNick49 Verified Member Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 I'd rather sign Victor Martinez. Because at 36, don't have to commit to long term contract
