BTS Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 This is f***ing awful. Lind is better than Estrada, fills a bigger position of need, and is only like $3.5 M more expensive.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Wow, AA really is a bumbling idiot.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Wtf..... And I was thinking 36 yr old Ramirez
nmrch Verified Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 There had better be additional pieces to this, otherwise this would be an awful, awful trade... What planet are you people living on? Lind is barely worth his own salary, why would anybody give you anything much of a value for him. Estrada is actually decent return, he's in his Arb 3 year and when healthy can be relied upon to be a 4/5 guy and has shown potential to be better than in the preceding two seasons. He could also be a solid guy out of the bullpen if we go that route.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Gotta fix that bullpen! So aren't Estrada, Redmond and Hendriks the same guy?

Marco Estrada is a FB pitcher who gave up 29 HR in 150 innings last season. He will get shelled in the RC.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Estrada allowed 29 HR's pitching in the NL. Should play well in the Rogers Centre. Motherf***inas;fkjeq and lind has 2 years of control and Estrada has one year of control. This is unbelievable. Why does AA have a job.

reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 Maybe they'll turn him into a late inning reliever? I could see that, he's always had pretty solid K rates.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 and lind has 2 years of control and Estrada has one year of control. This is unbelievable. Why does AA have a job. AA has a job because the owners of the franchise think he's done a good enough job.
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 If there was ever a better time to use this I've never seen it: *Facepalm* Also who will be Brett Lawries friend now?
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 I don't mind this that much if he's starting. I bet Estrada ends up being a setup guy or even the closer at some point. He was pretty good as a RP last season. Or he could be a backup plan for AA who might try to move Buehrle or Dickey.

TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Gotta fix that bullpen! So aren't Estrada, Redmond and Hendriks the same guy? Yes, we've traded Lind for another Redmond who will make $4mil this year. Terrible. AA will take the small sample size in relief for Estrada, and use that to justify the deal. Then again, this is the guy who traded Yan Gomes for Esmil Rogers, so we shouldnt be surprised.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 I really can't believe how bad this is. A guy who was replacement-level this year, and Steamer thinks is replacement-level next year for a 1.5 win guy, all to save less than $4 million.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Miller Park and Rogers Centre are pretty similar when it comes to home run rates. Plus as a RP he doesn't give up many HR at all.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 I don't mind this that much if he's starting. Yeah, I don't have a big problem with this, although I would have preferred to get some cheap bullpen arms rather than pay 3-4M each for them on the open market. I suspect AA will now turn around and trade Happ, with Estrada replacing Happ at lesser cost (or he's planning to trade Buehrle, and needs to protect himself for the lost innings). Estrada's xFIP last 4 years: 3.58, 3.48, 3.63, 4.19

It's because AA was probably already looking at Smoak as Lind's replacement. This could get ugly.
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Is this real life??? It can't be.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Maybe they'll trade Happ now for similar savings?
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Lol Smoak and Estrada are going to bring us to the post season!!!!!!! Lol lol lol
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 It's because AA was probably already looking at Smoak as Lind's replacement. This could get ugly. He could have just thrown the $4 million Estrada will make at a similar free agent reliever. This is just bad.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 You guys are overreacting a lot. You were hoping for a good reliever, and Estrada might be one, assuming they turn him into a late inning role, which I expect. Unless Happ is dealt.
nmrch Verified Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Marco Estrada is a FB pitcher who gave up 29 HR in 150 innings last season. He will get shelled in the RC. Miller park is quite homer friendly too, the Jays obviously expect some positive regression in his hr rate and overall numbers. Look at the 3 preceding seasons, xFIP's of 3.58, 3.48 and 3.63. Now obviously none of these are full seasons and Estrada could never go back to being that pitcher so its a gamble no doubt about that, but it might be a worthwhile gamble when you're giving up an equally flawed player like Lind whose value people keep overestimating because he's being protected against LHP. In the real world Lind is worth significantly less than his WAR suggests because the team holding him has to burn a roster spot just to cover up his shortcomings.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 So who would you prefer as a 5th SP, Estrada or Happ?
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 You guys are overreacting a lot. You were hoping for a good reliever, and Estrada might be one, assuming they turn him into a late inning role, which I expect. Unless Happ is dealt. The idea behind trading Lind for a reliever was saving $7 million. This move costs them a win while saving like $3.5 million.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Wilner will be spinning this like it's the greatest move ever.
