Governator Community Moderator Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I'm 31, same age as Reyes. It really pains me when someone says who wants an aging shortstop? Then last night, I looked at my thinning/balding hair and took the plunge and shaved it off. fml
Governator Community Moderator Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Should have just used Rogaine. I think it's a lost battle.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 His fWAR, tells a different story. defensive numbers tell a different story. Fwar is good because he is playing SS, but he plays a horrible SS
CHRIS Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Then last night, I looked at my thinning/balding hair and took the plunge and shaved it off. I probably have about a year before I need to consider this option. I would do it now, but I have no idea what the shape of my head looks like underneath. Don't want to look stupid until I have to.
Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Just buzz it short, maybe a #1 or #2. You don't need to go Michael Jordan immediately.

I'll do it without the guard next time but I need to grow at least some facial hair first before I take that plunge. #manproblems
Vincent Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 That Marlins trade is going to be a crutch on this organization for years to come... what a colossal fail.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I understand he's below average, but with Lawrie at 3rd and say an Asdrubal Cabrera at 2nd, it would make up for the short comings at the 6 hole. He still has a lot of value, just not 22 millions worth, I'd say he's still worth 15 to 18 a year, so we're not losing as much as what gets overblown on here. Id rather just trade reyes to anyone who will take him and sign Jed Lowrie and Asdrubal with his money.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 ..... the f***? Spanky's completely lost it again. What combination of illegal drugs / alcohol / meds are you on? See discussion on hair loss above. He's 41 years old with hair down to his back. He is not gentically disposed to go bald (luck willing). Every 2 or three years, he has his hair shaved with the clipper set to length number one.

Propecia will halt balding and even grow a bit back but the sides are freaky.... don't trust it Regaine may grow a few hairs here and there but it won't halt balding so you'll still go bald. If you look good with a shaved head you're a lucky f*** (I don't).

[i stand up] Hi my name is Jason and I'm a balding man. [everyone says "Hi Jason"] For the last 5 or 6 years I've been using paste gels in my hair and while it definitely gave me a temporary rush of confidence, deep down I knew my family wasn't buying it. But I can't stay in denial anymore, nowadays anytime I get a glimpse of my 3" diameter bald crown I keep telling myself it's time to let it go. So I acted on Step 1 of your guidebook to balding titled: Acceptance over Denial. Thank you. [everyone claps, I sit down]

It's not worth it to me to look into dubious "cures" with weird side effects. My main problem is that half the time I think I'd look okay if I buzzed with a #1 or #2, the other half I think I'd look ridiculous. Can't take that leap of faith yet.

The bald look does not suit me. Pastes give me some volume... so I roll with that... it's nothing fancy.

You might as well try the shaved look now so you can weigh your options for the future. You don't really have anything to lose. Just imagine if you look like Keanu Reeves with a buzz cut... you'd get all the ladies! Propecia is not dubious, it's the real deal but from my perspective not worth the side-effects (not everyone reports them). But once you go on it you haev to take it for life. Sorry for turning this into a HAIR LOSS TALK forum... ha.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 And if they don't come? Hypothetically if you trade Reyes for salary relief, you can overpay for one of the SS on the market. I'm sure 4/52 would be a competitive offer for JJ Hardy, for example, and if he won't come for then bump it up a bit. Every team has to overpay free agents. Getting rid of Reyes allows an overpayment. Of course I don't expect a team to take Reyes without giving a salary back.

You could always go with a #3 or #4. If you don't have clippers already, buy one. You can get them pretty cheap at Winners. While I'm not losing hair on top of my head, I do have a receding hairline, and the hair I have isn't very thick. I cut my hair with a #2 every two weeks just to maintain it. #1 is a bit too severe, at least for me, since my scalp is so white. Apparently they make a #1.5, which would be ideal. Anyway, the clippers pay for themselves. I haven't paid for a haircut in about four or five years.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 You could always go with a #3 or #4. Yes, currently I get #4 sides and back and have been slowly going shorter and shorter on top. Maybe #4 all over is the next milestone to take.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 So get rid of Reyes as a dump, and pay money to get rid of him. Overpay for a 32 year old Hardy/29 year old Cabrera/31 year old Lowrie or a 31 year old Ramirez, they're the only thing decent out there? We'll need 2 of them, while the rest of the MLB bids for there services as well? NOT HAPPENING!! How about get someone to play 2nd and extend Melky? Take another kick at the can. As a dreamer, here is my ideal position player off season... sign Cuban FA Thomas for RF, re sign Melkey for LF, move Jbats to 3b, Lawrie is full time 2B. Gose/Pillar platoon in CF. Lineup would look like this 1. Reyes SS (as much as I hate typing that) 2. Melkey LF 3. Bautista 3B 4. Lind DH (with mayberry platoon) 5. EE 1B 6. Navarro C 7. Thomas RF 8. Lawrie 2B 9. Gose CF (with Pillar platoon) bench Izturas (Goins would be ideal, but Izturas makes too much) bench Mayberry bench Pillar Bench Thole now as for pitching......

Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Yasmani Tomas? We'd be outbid, nice dream though. its a dream. Valencia and mayberry are both under control I think. Maybe keep both and go with 11 pitchers??? but Valencia becomes redundant with Lawrie active doesn't he? when they don't sign Yamani Thomas, who knows what AA will pull out from his bag of tricks? another buy low candidate I would guess hope it isn't Valencia as full time 3B with Lawrie at 2B. Valencia is not an upper division starter
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 If the Jays don't sign Melky to an extension, Tomas comes into play, f***, he's only 23. *drools* 5 years already in Cuban league - therefore does not fall into international signing pools and teams like the Yankees, Redsox can take a run at him I'm being very greedy and want both Melky and Thomas - f*** Rogers they can afford it. Get the fans excited again!!!
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 So, let's just keep replacing the turf and making it "new" turf instead of saying f*** the Argos and going to full grass already? This reminds me of JPR ******** of instead of putting a quality team on the field (OK a few weren't horrible under his watch) he just kept changing the team's logo (I think there were more changes and alt jerseys under his tenure than in team history combined) and just keep BSing everyone instead of actually doing something to win. Piss money away on new turf and think that'll help a hapless player in Reyes instead of telling move the f*** to 2B or unloading him to whatever team is willing to take on as much of his salary as possible or give up anything for him. Didn't they just buy new turf a few seasons ago? Didn't they buy some new brand right after AA took over and then just bought new Astroturf not too long ago? Why not just buy new bases or padding for the walls and/or railings and claim the new padding will keep Lawrie from falling into a camera well and getting hurt?

Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Reyes is virtually UNtradable. No one will take him. His defensive metrics are horrible. Blame it on being injured if you want, but its not going to get better as he ages. if you can find a sucker to take him like the Angels took Vernon a few years ago, go for it. Jump at that as quick as you can, because you aren't going to win with him as a pylon at SS

Edwin being out 6 weeks probably cost us a playoff spot. He and Lind make the lineup very hard to pitch through. Bautista didn't see squat the entire time Ed was gone. August really finished the season. We were not that far away this year. I know there are people here who will rage at this, but it's a fact. Not hitting cost the team more games than framing and pitching.

Not hitting cost the team more games than framing and pitching. Unfortunately I am unable to pull up the stats, but Bautista was still playing pretty well with Edwin down. He certainly wasn't getting the pitches for sure and I don't think he hit more than a handful of HRs while Edwin was away but overall he still maintained his hitting / once in a while good defensive plays. I would say Lawrie was the bigger loss mostly due to his defense and the result of the Franskio/Tholleson/Kawasaki/Goins combo at 2nd/3rd base. Regardless injuries are never a excuse as every team faces them. AA's inability to make a deal (i.e. Frany for Headley) and acquire depth before the preseason started is what hurt the team the most in my mind. Though the framing/inconsistent pitching is certainly another leading issue for the season.

As for not winning with him at SS, the Yankees had Jeter there for years. What matters overall is how much value he produces, not whether it comes from offense or defense.
