jays1 Verified Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Hi everyone. I am coming to Toronto with a few other guys for three games against TB this weekend. Looking for any tips anyone can give us to enjoy the expirience. We have all been to 5 or 6 games at Skydome/Rogers center before so we have done the HHOF and CN tower too many times to bother. We are staying right downtown. What kind of things is there to do in an afternoon or evening for a sports fanatic? Any in game advice? We have very good seats and of course will go for bp. Does anyone know of a tour of Rogers Center that a person can go on? Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance Rogers Centre tour - http://www.rogerscentre.com/about/tours.jsp With the Film Festival going on I'm not 100% sure there is much for sports going on (couple of charity events AIDS Walk, Team Up for Sick Kids, Terry Fox Run are all on this weekend). Unless you are interested in 2nd rate junior hockey, then you can see the Jr. Canadians.
jays1 Verified Member Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 No offense but that tour looks pretty lame. It doesnt look like there is anything that you couldnt just go see by yourself if you wanted too. They dont offer a look at the clubhouse or anything? Didnt realize the film festival was going on, should be able to find lots with that.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Maybe check out Wonderland on the weekend - it's usually not that busy in the fall months and they have great coasters. If you want to drive out to Hamilton, check if the Ti-Cats are in town. They just built a new stadium which is beautiful. Also, you could drive to Buffalo on the Sunday if the Bills are playing at home. Also, Woodbine is fun on the weekends, either Saturday or Sunday. I know the Ricoh Mile next Sunday which is a big stake race.

The city has very little else on that I'm aware of...and yes that tour is extremely lame.

Do you get to see Cito Gaston's office, containing Travis Snider's balls displayed in a jar?? And the Anthopoulos all-you-can-bear-to-eat Gyros station?

It's across from the Rogers Centre and is a somewhat interesting tour and of course you get to drink decent beer.
jays1 Verified Member Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 Thanks for the ideas everyone. Any tips or advice for at the stadium?
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Thanks for the ideas everyone. Any tips or advice for at the stadium? Beer is over priced and the food sucks. Drink/eat before the game.
Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 For the game, wear sunscreen. I went to a game recently and assumed I would be in the shaded part of the stadium, so I didn't wear any. Unfortunately, I was in the sun for three innings before the shade made it our way, and ended up getting my arms and neck burned. Also ended up buying a cap I'll probably never wear again. So, dress accordingly. jays4life19 is also right about the food, it's really overpriced, and mediocre. You're better off getting a bite somewhere downtown. Although, I noticed the food trucks near the stadium are also a bit overpriced. You should note that Union Station is currently under heavy construction, but in the station and outside it, so take that into consideration when getting to the stadium. Actually, most of downtown Toronto is under construction in some shape or form, so it's kind of a mess, at the moment. Film festival is not a bad idea, but I think tickets are pricey, and you might not even be able to find a film that isn't sold out. You might be interested in Ripley's Aquarium, which is right next to the stadium. That's also pricey, but my sister went with her daughter and they loved it.
jays1 Verified Member Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 I am thinking abiut getting seats behind home plate for Dickeys start. Has anyone sat there to watch the knuckleball?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Thanks for the ideas everyone. Any tips or advice for at the stadium? Bring your own food and (nonalcoholic) drinks. You're allowed to.

I sat a few rows back for a Wakefield start. You won't be disappointed. Also don't leave the stadium when you go in. The hour after BP is boring so you might be tempted but I don't think they let you back in.
Governator Community Moderator Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 If you're front row behind home pate, please wear an umpire uniform & mask and then greet us with your best strike out moves all night long.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Brass Rail is a great spot for a pre-game breakfast.
jays1 Verified Member Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 Has anyone stood at the railing in centerfield? Looks like a bar, I am assuming it is where windowa restaurant used to be? Would u recomend it? How do u get tickets for there?
Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Yes, it's where the restaurant used to be, but you don't need tickets, it's free for everyone. Last game I went to it was filled up, but we did try to check it out. You get a pretty great view from there even standing above the section. There's a small bar, and a memorabilia section.
