Any idea who'll likely be called up when roster expand?

Most likely we'll see:

P Daniel Norris

P Sean Nolin

P Rob Rasmussen

P Chad Jenkins

P Kyle Drabek

P Steve Delabar (questionable)

C AJ Jimenez or C George Kottaras

2B/SS Ryan Goins

OF Anthony Gose

OF Darin Mastroianni

Outside shot: 1B Dan Johnson, 1B/3B Matt Hague, P Kendall Graveman

Any other ideas?

If Buffalo isn't in the playoffs then most guys on the 40-man likely get called up. They're not going to play a whole lot, but that's usually the way it goes.

It'll depend on Buffalo's performance vs. Syracuse, who have already clinched a playoff spot in AAA.

Kind of hope Buffalo doesn't make playoffs. Want to see Norris, Graveman, and Pompey right away. Yes Pompey is coming. Not sure why hes not on your list.

They have to add him to the 40 man in the offseason anyways so no harm to do it early since September call ups don't burn options.

Pompey, Jimenez, and Graveman would be my hope

Norris maybe

If Norris does come up he'll be in the pen. They wee going to put him in the pen prior to his last start but since they're still in the thick of the WC race they had him start. He's practically at his innings limit already with 122.2 and if I remember correctly they didnt want to go past 130 max.

Yeah they're 1.5 back of Pawtucket...Unless they win the remainder against the Chiefs and the PawSox lose the remainder against Rochester..its over. Henry Owens goes for the Sox tonight at 6, so good luck..lol

That's a f***load of guys. They usually bring up a third catcher, a couple of pen arms and a couple position players but not 10 guys.

Gose, Jiminez, Pompey, Goins for position players, and I would guess Jenkins, Rasmussen and Drabek for the pen. Maybe Nolin instead of Drabek if they want another lefty.

They might elect not to bring Pompey up and instead send him to the Arizona fall league. They might not want to bring a kid like him up just to sit around for September playing maybe once a week and pinch running occasionally.

As for call-ups.

Gose (who should be starting in center as is), Goins, Jimenez/Kotteras are the only guys that will be called up for hitters. As for pitchers, with Jenkins already here, I can see Rasmussen, Drabek, Norris, and possibly Delabar brought back.

I no longer see the point of Norris coming up for 6-8 innings of relief. Assuming he spends time in the minors next year, they'd be burning an option year that that wouldn't have to if they just shut him down this year and don't add him yo the 40 man roster until he was ready for a full season or mandated by his 5 years of minor league service or be exposed to the rule 5 draft. I'd be happy with a September call up next year at the earliest unless he blows the IL up next year.

He's already blowing up the IL. However, it is possible they may shut him down due to innings.

3 or 4 starts is basically meaningless. He has been dominant in 3 of 4 starts at the highest level of the minors. Let's see him do that for 3-4 months before any real judgments on his "dominance" are made.

That will be up to the Jays to decide. Regardless, multiple arms will be called up by Tuesday to fortify the pen, even if it's not Norris.

Has anyone mentioned Delabar?

Would be sort of sad (but possibly appropriate) if guys like Deabek and Norris are up here for September but Delabar is done for the year

Hopefully Pompey as well. He needs to be added to the 40-man anyway. Norris is the guy they should have waited on.

Would you have done the same with Sanchez, who is dominating batters in the MLB right now with a 20/3 K/BB ratio and a 0.6 WHIP, and is going to get save chances because of Janssen's struggles? And besides, it's not a bad idea for a top pitching prospect to start in the bullpen, as it allows them to help develop pitches.

The Mayberry acquisition pretty much puts the kibosh on Pompey joining. That many OF he'd only be pinch running sparingly. May as well just send him to the AFL and add him in the offseason. No harm

I have no issue with it really, it's just odd to bring him up when he's only going to get maybe 10 innings max over 4 weeks.

Blue Jays Promote Daniel Norris

By Mark Polishuk [september 1, 2014 at 9:58am CDT]

The September roster expansions mean that some of baseball’s most notable prospects will be called up to the big leagues for the first time. Here are some of the familiar names from various prospect rankings (from MLB.com, Baseball America and ESPN’s Keith Law) who will soon debut in the Show…

The Blue Jays will promote left-hander Daniel Norris, Sportsnet.ca’s Shi Davidi reports. Norris, 21, was a second-round pick in the 2011 draft who began this season at high-A ball but pitched well enough to earn promotions to both Double-A and Triple-A. The southpaw has a 2.53 ERA, 11.8 K/9 and 3.79 K/BB rate over a combined 124 2/3 IP at all three farm levels in 2014. Norris, who was ranked 25th by Baseball America and 28th by MLB.com, is expected to begin his Major League career pitching out of the Jays’ bullpen.

I don't really get the point of this but I didn't really get the point of Sanchez either and that worked out alright.
