The only thing I can appreciate about the guy is that he's relatively articulate.

TSN.ca: What's happening?

DICKEY: Yeah. I think it's hard to identify. I think some of it's probably the nature of the game. You know, it's such a streaky game. I've said that for a long time and we haven't been able to arrest, for whatever reason, we haven't been able to arrest the downward spiral that we've been in presently. That's some of it. Some of it's that we haven't been pitching as well - I'm talking about myself - as well as I'm capable of pitching. We haven't been playing very fundamental baseball recently. A lot of those things add up to you being in a place where you don't enjoy the result. We've still got a little over a month left and anything's possible.

What? Shut up Dickey. Arrest the downward spiral? What?

Meh. He's pretty verbose.

I lol'd at that too.

That's probably fair, but I find it's just a nice breath of fresh air when compared to the lack of eloquence displayed by the majority of professional athletes.

TSN.ca: Do you think this team, despite how it's gone in the last month, month and a half, is this team still really close?

LIND: To making the playoffs?

TSN.ca: Not this year but are you a player or two away?

LIND: If you look at our, I don't know where I saw it, we're last in hitting and 27th in pitching, so I'd say we're more than a couple of pieces away.

Lol Lind knows more than management. I'm sure the players are just as frustrated as the fans every time you watch Francisco strike out or a routine play being botched by a player that shouldn't be here. I still can't believe the team never addressed 2nd base for the entire season.

Huh? Last in hitting? This makes no sense no matter what metric you're using.

Last year the top five teams in the NL that made the playoffs ranked in the top 5 in team ERA. In the AL all the teams that made the playoffs were top 7.

This Year the top six teams are (P=currently in the playoffs if season ended now)

1- Seattle (4th worst in the league in runs scored but still in the WC hunt)

2- Oakland (P)

3 -Tampa (second Last in the league in run scored)

4 - LAA (P)

5 - Baltimore (P)

6 - KC (P)

4 of the top 6 pitching staffs are IN the playoffs if it ended now and if Tampa and Seattle were even competent at scoring runs they'd be there too).

NL

1 - Washington (P)

2 - San Diego (Last in the NL in run scored)

3 - Atlanta (1.5 games back in WC)

4 - LAD (P)

5 - San Fran (.5 GB of WC)

6 - Cincinatti (a bit of an outlier 6 in pitching and 10th in runs scored) St. Louis is 14 in runs scored and 9th in pitching and are in it

2 are in and 2 are right there.

AA has been correct in drafting pitching but until the Jays have a top 6 pitching staff the team isn't going anywhere. If Dickey and Buerhle were our number 4-5 starters and we had three guys in the realm of King Felix, Price and Darvish - then we could live with Gose in CF and Kawasaki at 2nd and Valencia at third.

Pitching wins and until we get some - we're bottom feeders.

He is extremely weird.

He's always choked up with emotion or just being creepy in general.

I'd assume a lot of that has to do with the childhood issues. Yeah it's a long time but mentally he probably never really recovered.

I don't mind how Dickey talks, a lot of people are as verbose as he is, they just know when to dumb down their speech to play to the lowest common denominator.

I just find it funny that the same people who think they're geniuses on virtually every topic, whether it be sports/politics/climate (when they're quite the opposite), are the ones ticked off by Dickey being well spoken...

This is coming from someone who thinks he's been a complete flop, but whatever. Carry on "smart guys" haha.

My guess is he meant in the month of August alone.

We're 28th, assuming we're going by OPS which is probably what Lind looked at

No idea what he was talking about

Either way this team should be near the top in hitting every year with where there hitting at 81 games of the year.

One liners are great, pictures are even better. Must be a "cool guy" blasting of someone.

Why does everyone on this board hate him so much?

He's the most babied pitcher in baseball.

- He needs a personal catcher in Josh Thole who is awful and essentially limits the Jays to 24-man rosters. And its not like Dickey has been that effective with Thole behind the plate anyways.

- He needs the dome closed. I remember back in May, it was a gorgeous night and the roof was closed because guess who was pitching? And the Jays lost.

- He's inconsistent and isn't the ace the front office thought he was - which pisses me off since they paid top dollar for him in trade when they could have used those assets the previous offseason to trade for a Gio Gonzalez, Mat Latos etc. Dickey is a reliable starter - I don't mind him as a No. 3 since he could put together a solid stretch of starts and eats inning, though paying the price of an ace for a No. 3 starter is a massive fail by the front office.

1.He's old

2.He looks sloppy

3.He was acquired at his absolute peak value that he never would've approached when younger and never would again, and a heavy price was paid.

4.The Jays played up Dickey's childhood story

5.He reminds me of Hans Gruber from Diehard and I couldn't stand Hans

I hope Adam Lind realizes he (injuries and MAJOR inconsistencies) has been a big part of the problem withe the makeup of the roster in his tenure on the Blue Jays. I also find Lind and Dickey two unlikeable characters.

I hope they don't pick up Lind's option and trade Dickey next year.

If you want to get rid of Lind you pick up the option and trade him. He has value.

I just hate all the excuses he makes. It's never Dickey's fault when he gets lit up.

In Dickey's book, he talks a lot about transgressions against him but he's very vague about his own transgressions. How does a player who doesn't drink or party end up cheating on his wife? We'll never know because he won't tell.

Despite his professoral demeanor, Dickey probably has at least as much ego as the typical jock. He's the king of the humble brag and to be honest, I'm fine with that. Reading his book certainly didn't make me like him more but it didn't make me think less of him than I do about the typical pro athlete. He's just cut from a different cloth.

Allan Rickman was one of the best villains/bad guys ever in that movie!

Am I the only one who actually likes Dickey? He hasn't been terrible by any means, it's not his fault he was traded for 2 prospects some people here like.

Plus, most MLB players come across as arrogant pricks, it's refreshing that he seems down to earth.

But we don't really know that. Maybe the Reds/A's didn't really like Syndergaard/D'Arnaud? The trade could be terrible, but both of those guys could still easily become irrelevant and it could turn out that teams were right in passing them up.

He comes off as incredibly arrogant to me. Just not in quite the same way as most players.

One of the things that killed me in his book is the way he drop Star Wars references as if he it makes him some kind of erudite. LOTS of people like Star Wars.
