gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Does it make you feel better when someone else rips the guy that ripped you? I have never talked to Wilner before sunshine retard.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 do you know how tough it is to have a -40 wRC like he's done in 39 August PA's? That Francisco for Headley swap seems awfully good in hindsight (not that there wasn't reason to think Headley was the much better player even then).
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Wilner actually ripped Sid as Sid didn't really know what he was talking about. Wilner was wrong about not adding a player though. Said Asdrubal Cabrera wasn't an upgrade and talked how Ryan Goins should be 2nd base. Goins 25wRC+ Cabrera 98wRC+ over the season and 112wRC+ since the trade to WAS.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 1-Jose Bautista - 4.3 fWAR <----- Great year 2-Edwin Encarnacion - 2.9 fWAR 3-Jose Reyes - 2.7 fWAR 4-Melky Cabrera - 2.5 fWAR 5-Marcus Stroman - 2.1 fWAR Those 4 guys have the right to complain about the front office No they don't S.T.F.U and play! Joey I am looking at you, be a real leader. Not a f***ing baby!
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I'm not "reading mockery into it." It's there. It's English. It's a thing. "Everybody around us somehow figured it out" ... that's sarcasm. That's condescension. And repeating it, again, using "somehow" ... driving home the mocking. It's not a hidden meaning. It's blatant ... as blatant as could be without simply saying "the front office screwed up." O.K. Bert.

CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I really find it amazing, and amusing, that fans of this team/sport get all hand-wavy because they are just "millionaires playing a kid's game" as if it didn't require tons of effort and skill to get to where they are at. I am much more comfortable with these guys making millions than most bank CEOs who have mostly kissed ass their way to the top and at least baseball players can't really do much in terms of crashing the economy. f***ing grow a brain or something. These guys care about winning and we expect them to sit idly by while the FO does f*** all. These are athletes, most of them are dumb and don't filter what they say. This team was always going to be hovering around .500, and AA made sure that continued by doing nothing. I agree. People here don't like what Joey said after the deadline because they believe AA when he said he had to give up Stroman or whatever. But there's one thing that these people don't understand. Psychologicaly speaking, the non move impacted the team in a negative way as ALL the other contending teams made a move. That crushed the players' motivation. They should have gotten anyone to bolster the bullpen or rotation; perhaps not a Price but someone like Miller or Street. That could have helped the team's momentum keep going. Well, too little, too late.

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I have probably been this team's biggest cheerleader, but the play since the break has been disgusting. When the lineup was littered with AAA & bench players did you expect the record to be better?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 When the lineup was littered with AAA & bench players did you expect the record to be better? A lot us hoped that it was enough. I think if the injuries had not happened things would have gone very differently
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 And, on July 31st, they were 10 games over .500, 1.5 games out of first, holding down the 2nd wildcard slot and their run differential was +44 (better than the first place Orioles and 4th best in the AL). Were they a playoff team then? Face it, they aren't going to the playoffs this year or if they hypothetically traded Stroman & Hutch for Price.

People don't like what Joey said because mature adults don't call out their front office. Even immature adults, like many athletes, don't do it. It has nothing to do with what may or may not have been the cost of "upgrades." The reality is these "upgrades" often times don't help diddly (and you can look at the teams that went in the pooper since they "upgraded"). And you can see teams like the Royals, who have surged, despite not picking up any help at the deadline. If you're holding down a playoff spot, and in the middle of a 6 game winning streak (and 9-1 in your last 10, and 11-3 since the Break), and looking at the possible return of your best hitter, your starting 2B/3B and your DH (and possibly a reliever/starter), and you get demoralized to the point of not trying your hardest because a lefty specialist wasn't acquired, you need to be locked away from the rest of society, so as to not harm anyone, because you're mentally unstable. Yes but the Royals didn't have injuries like we did. As for your "mentally unstable" comment, you're right, they should still try their best. But I'm still pretty sure not making a move affected the team morale.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Also now that the season is done time to try and trade Janssen and Rasmus if you can. There's not much time left
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Oops, my bad for quoting multiple people in my posts. Too hard to fix that via phone lol.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 a couple of amateurs have been tinkering with the motor and now it doesn't run properly... letting them have another shot is just going to make things worse if not completely damage things. Time to get a professional mechanic under the hood and take a shot at getting things running on all cylinders this winter and get things running right before we have to change the motor. Are we getting a new owner or President?
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Thank god Bryant and Soler will be called up soon to make September interesting. Most fans here, at the park and around the country hate prospects unless they're someone else's.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 A lot us hoped that it was enough. And since the deadline the lineups have been s*** because of injuries.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Really? I'm talking about contending teams. Mariners Tigers A's Yankees O's Angels Dodgers Even the f***ing Marlins made a move before the deadline Most of the sides of the trades I liked, were from the teams selling.

JaysRap Verified Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 This all comes back to poor scouting/roster management/inability to make changes mid-stream. And what really bothers me is that this isn't just some one time thing - we're talking about what...at least 2 years where this team won 73, 74 and this year maybe 78 if they keep playing 0.406 baseball? EVERY year you can make an excuse for injuries and under performing but at some point somebody has to be held responsible with their job(s).

Mariners Tigers A's Yankees O's Angels Dodgers Even the f***ing Marlins made a move before the deadline Yankees aren't contenders. Their moves haven't even got them close to the 2nd wild card, as they are down 4 in the wild card.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Most of the sides of the trades I liked, were from the teams selling. Yes. The Tigers have gotten worse since the Price trade, and could actually miss the playoffs. And the A's have lost 1st place since the trades. And the Dodgers were forced to trade for pitching because injuries have decimated their MLB and AAA rotations.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 As an outsider this is just speculation, but if I had to choose who has been half-assing his job and pouting, AA or any player with the Jays, I am going to take the former. There have been many, many posts on this board about how AA could have improved the team, even if the payroll was stuck at its current size. These posts are made by people who don't have access to a plethora of data and a team of people to help gather data and make good decisions. Instead of picking up the phone and doing what he can to try to fill holes he goes on repeated sessions to the waiver wire to try and strike some gold. If a player is dogging it on the field, the team leaders will call him out about it. The players sense AA has been dogging it in the front office.
