GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Morrow might be convinced now... who doesn't want to be part of the BJ juggernaut Oh damn. That would be so sick.
Westfan Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Jays keep getting better for less money. I think the front office went into this offseason with the idea of improving the defense and getting healthier players. The defense with Smoak, Martin, Saunders, and Donaldson will be greatly improved and only Saunders has been injury prone. Should still be around 17 mil to spend. Lariano, Neshek, and trade Navarro for a decent reliever. Do something like that and I can live with the hole at 2nd till Travis is ready.

Martin would help him out a bit more and if nothing else he'd be good depth for middle relief.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Where's Loup? Traded for Souza If that doesn't happen though he'll be a great member of our pen.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Traded for Souza If that doesn't happen though he'll be a great member of our pen. Yeah hes been a great loogy. I think he will be a guy who benefits a lot from Martin as well. Navarro seemed to struggle catching him which could explain the drastic increase in BB.

Heck opponents were OPSing under .500 against him, and he was sporting a 14:1 K/BB ratio. I expect him to bounce back. Even if he doesn't, Sanchez in the wings would be a nice backup plan.

King Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I feel like we'll be taking a reliever in the Rule 5 Draft.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I feel like we'll be taking a reliever in the Rule 5 Draft. Who's eligible? Feliz would've been a nice snag, lol.
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Who's eligible? Feliz would've been a nice snag, lol. From the sounds of it, Feliz probably wouldn't have made it past #1. lol I'm looking into it, right now, there has been a few good articles on the top players eligible.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-acquire-saunders-from-mariners-for-happ/ I love the quotes in this article by AA. Especially the one about Smoak defensively. Smoak, who was projected to earn $3 million in arbitration before he was non-tendered, represents a good roll of the dice at $1 million. While not guaranteed a spot, the tentative plan is for him to compete for time at first base and provide a defensive boost while allowing Edwin Encarnacion to get more time at DH. “We think there’s some upside, there are two-years where he had 19-20 home runs in Seattle,” Anthopoulos said of Smoak. “One thing about him is he’s six-foot-four, got a massive wingspan, he’s durable enough to play first base every day. He doesn’t have a whole lot of range, but has very good hands. … “It’s going to help to have a guy that can really pick balls in the dirt.” This is exactly what I thought this team needed since Donaldson and Reyes have had their share of wild throws recently. EE really struggled picking balls in the dirt so even though it might not seem like much, having Smoak there could be save an underrated about of runs.
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Everth Cabrera was a non-tender. Anyone think he could cut it at 2B? At the very least he'd be an improvement over Goins as an infield replacement for 2B/SS and could take over the late inning PR duty. Not sure what it would cost to get him but I couldn't imagine it would be much more than what TB got for Sean Rodriguez.

I think teams that really need a s/s, like the Yankees, Dodgers and A's might be interested in Cabrera ... hence the Jays will not get him cheap
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Yup, he's on my list. 1. Medlen 2. Beachy 3. Cabrera Those are 3 very interesting names, especially if you're not really relying on them to be SP 2/3 or your starting SS.

Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Any chance the White Sox don't know what they have in Quintana? I know Alex has done some trading with them before. I'd offer them one of Sanchez/Norris plus any other prospect. Maybe they'd want Navarro too if we paid his salary? Don't really think it gets it done but stranger things have happened over in Chi-Town.

Westfan Verified Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I think AA will concentrate on the pitching now. I see the next addition as a bull pen piece.relievers are getting paid a ton now it seems. I liked Hochevar but Christ he got 5 mil. And may not be ready till May? June? If Sanchez starts we need 3 BP arms and nothing excites me in the rule 5 draft
