World Juniors on TSN brought in 1.5 million viewers on avg per game this year. Getting 1.1m from the same hockey crazed audience for mid season baseball is pretty ridiculous.

Now pay it forward.

Those numbers will only go up if this team keeps contending into mid August and beyond. This is why I have been saying for so long this is a big market club.

jays over the last few years have averaged 350Kish viewers per night...that's 3 times the norm. The CFL is normally 2nd to hockey in the 700K range per game with playoffs(excluding grey cup) hitting 1 to 1.5 mil.

that number for the Jays is huge....what more evidence do rogers execs need that taking on some more money in salary to improve the team is a good thing at this point.

Amazing what a competitive ball club will do for ratings.

Now, how can they keep this going...?

Sacrifice a goat?

That's why i always say they could easily make the money they spend back with the TV Viewership, Tickets,Concessions during the playoffs not to mention the boost their ticket sales would get next year

They ususally average around 500-600k a night. This should be a large enough signal to Rogers that if they spend an extra couple million$ on payroll you could make most of that back just on the TV numbers alone.

Can't believe Rogers wouldn't add payroll.

It's ridiculous how this team isn't in the Top 5 in payroll considering we have a whole country and market of +35m people to advertise the team towards.

Why tell people if all you're gonna hear in response is "More money for payroll". Scott Moore & Rogers having their cake and eating it too

Perhaps Rogers was skeptical after spending big a couple winters ago with nothing to show for it. If anything, a strong run here could help AA make a strong case for a sizeable payroll increase next winter.

I think last night's record setting viewership proves that winning makes people tune in. Spending in the off season doesn't guarantee winning. But playoff race looks like it would really boost viewership.

Best he can hope for is lots of viewers for a playoff run (even if its only 1 round) then tell them that if he is forced to cut payroll they wont match those numbers and they might keep us capped at $140.

I'm not sure that is the best he can hope for. Rogers has spent big just two winters ago and are now carrying a sizeable payroll. They probably want to see some results before investing more into this regime. Bottom line for Rogers is making money and if AA can deliver on his promises than I'm sure Rogers will as well.

Yeah for sure. Winter spending usually increases season tickets and pre sales, but contending late in the season is at another level. Imagine ratings in September is this team still holds a WC spot or are just a game or two behind the division?

I'm not buying into the AA has no money BS. Still 24hrs until the deadline with plenty of quality players available.

Does anyone know how many viewers a mid-week Leafs game typically gets?

I think around 1.2-1.5 million but i am just guessing. I think Blue Jays games actually get higher ratings during the week than on weekends because of the summer and not many people stay inside to watch a baseball game on a sunny Saturday in July.

Keep in mind the Leafs only play 82 games a year, so viewership should be much higher on the average.
