What about trading the farm for 2 playoff runs with Price leading the charge at a WS?

What about dealing for Price, using him for a playoff run, and then dealing him in the offseason?

Go get Price and then what? Where is the money going to come to fill out LF, CF, 2B, CL, etc.... Price would eat up all the remaining payroll and we would be even worse depth wise next season.

I'm sure filthy stinking rich Rogers will find a way during a couple years of contention.

Craig + Kelly for Lackey

Boston is really cashing in this deadline, there goes the Boston will be crap next year theory.

AA won't make any trades today. The reporters will ask him why, he'll say there's still possibility of making trades after the deadline, etc. Same old canned lines.

Maybe consolidated doesn't mean what I think it means.

Well, only hope now is to make it all the way like the 03 Marlins did. This means odds of us winning the AL pennant = 100 against 1. Odds of winning WS? Non existant.

Why not? I also dont get in these situations why a team doesnt trade for price now, then trade him again in the offeseason. Probably woud be able to get about 2/3 of your value back for a shot at the playoffs.

realistically though this tean will look a lot different after 2015. Giving up prospects, which chances are most will bust, for a couple years of price would be really helpful.

Sanchez, Nolin, and Pompey for Price and then in the offseason deal Price and recoup the equivalent of Nolin and Pompey.

BAM! AL East Champs with an ace to make a deep playoff run.

I like your idea. Just posted that i wonder why teams dont do that more. However i think the third piece would need to be a bit better than Nolin to get the deal done. I doubt TB loves Sanchez although i do think they are the type of team that would value pompey highly

In the offseason you may be able to get even MORE for him because it won't just be the 12 teams in contention that will want him, it will be the 25 teams that think they have a shot when everyone's record is 0-0. I bet you could trade Price to a team like the Rockies for a shitload.

Good god this MLB network coverage is hard on the ears. Russo needs to stop climbing octaves while yelling.

Does MLB Network have any good shows? I got rid of cable and haven't watched it in a while.

I love your idea, it makes a lot of sense. AA could easily flip Price in the winter and get a MLB ready piece back in the deal which would help towards the 2015 team as well.

Teams don't do that often because every FA signing afterward will require no trade restrictions to sign with your loose cannon GM.

AA: Goins is our everyday second baseman. Hes been hitting the ball well in Boston and you can't replace his Roberto Alomar like defense.

Is there or a source for that or is that your expected AA answer today?

none of us really thought AA was going to get anything done at the deadline. Some where hoping to get shocked and the rest were afraid they'd be shocked at the deadline.

^ Pretty much. Unless he does something out of the blue a la the Rasmus deal that no one thought/heard about it's likely nothing will happen. Maybe not even in August. The club will have some regulars back soon and some of the weaker parts of the pen have been removed so it's not a bad place to be in. It would be nice if another piece could be added but if it doesn't happen it's not a shock. Would be nice to make a quality move but like many have said most thought nothing more would happen, even going back weeks ago to the "Rogers said no more money" rumours.

I did. He has to really. This roster isn't good enough.

I'm hoping something does happen if not today sometime in the next few in an August deal if possible. The team roster isn't horrible, but there is a piece or two needed even with the regulars back. But if it means dealing players that we can't afford to then no sense in doing it.
