HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Or perhaps it was AA's plan to relieve Santos salary and it backfired. Therefore, no more trades ;/

JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 It's not really too surprising that Santos cleared waivers. Who wants to take what's guaranteed in his contract on right now? He's been injured off and on since he's been here and he's been all over the place when he's off. You could throw blindfolded and hit spot better than him at times. Any team that might want to give him a shot would wait until he clears, hope he refuses the outright assignment and either sign him to a minors deal or the prorated minimum. No sense in assuming everything if they don't have to.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Apparently his 3 options each have a 750k buyout meaning it would cost 2.25 million to buy him out next season.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Apparently his 3 options each have a 750k buyout meaning it would cost 2.25 million to buy him out next season. Ugh. I had been assuming it was 750k to buyout the entire deal.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Sooo how much $$ do they have buried in pitches in Buffalo?
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 It's 750K to buy out each upcoming year. Once you buy out one year, the rest of the deal is null and void, so you don't buy out each remaining year. So, in reality, it's 750k to buy out the "entire deal." Quoting because i believe BTS has you on ignore. I believe you are correct here though.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Quoting because i believe BTS has you on ignore. I believe you are correct here though. Thanks. That's what I thought.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Buyouts are guaranteed money if the contract is not exercised. Ergo, he will be owed $2,250,000 if they exercise his buyout. I'm sorry to tell you, but you are incorrect.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Page 108 of the CBA ( If a Contract contains an Option Buyout relating to more than one Option Year, then only the Option Buyout that relates to the earliest Option Year in the Contract shall be deemed a Signing Bonus. If, however, the Player ultimately receives an Option Buyout that relates to an Option Year other than the earliest Option Year, that Option Buyout shall be included in Salary in the Contract Year covered by the option that was not exercised. I don't think that says what you think it says.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Page 108 of the CBA You are incorrect. Each year has it's own buyout independent of the next. It will be a $750K buyout and that is all.
