spats Verified Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Is it just me or did it seem that Dickey did not seem overly excited that Loup saved his ass? I don't think he wanted to come out and has this air of entitlement about him.
RIPEXPOS Verified Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I think Dickey is just closetly embarrassed by his own mediocrity.
TobiasFunke Verified Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Probably just down on his performance.
flafson Verified Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I think the water in the air killed his trick pitch today.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I don't think he fits into our clubhouse... Or any clubhouse for that matter. When he first came here he said all the right things, was a media darling, etc. It was cute. Now he's annoying as hell always trying to sound smarter than everyone else. This team is en fuego and he has nothing to do with it. I'm hoping he picks it up but not counting on it... Two starts ago (they won that game) he was almost in tears after getting the win. It was two weeks into May, not October R.A.. Man up please. Like he was getting all choked up over a 6 inning 3 run start. Almost in tears speaking to the media. Really weird, unstable behaviour.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I won't blame Dickey for AA's decision to trade for him as an ace. I think he gets paid for what he is as a pitcher, at least in the A.L. I do think Gibbons gives him too much of a leash. I don't think Hutchison, for example, would've been allowed to face Castellanos tonight, but I could be wrong.
Jaysfan_85 Verified Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 He isn't what he was in NY but hes been decent overall and pretty good his last 8 starts or so minus the one against the Royals and this one to an extent. His main issue is BB's right now. Its what is hurting him the most right now and preventing him from pitching deeper into games.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 He probably just wasn't surprised that Loup saved his ass because of how nails he is.

Actually he has a lot to do with it. An ERA of around 4 with our offense is going to give us a win more often than not. But Gibby needs to start pulling him sooner. Dickey must of specifically talked to him at one point because earlier in the season he was on a shorter leash. He absolutely does not deserve this kind of rope.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 This is just a group of Bros calling out a pitcher for giving up 2 runs in 6 innings and leaving with the bases loaded with nobody out. A little to nice with your assessment, Dickey was not good tonight 5+IP 7H 2ER 4BB 4 SO. And he was saved by a couple of nice defensive plays, but I do agree with convo, if he can give us 6 or 7 innings of 3 run ball, the way this team hits he will come out on the winning side more often than not.
shortstop Verified Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Dickey is just annoying - team just got him the lead & he comes out & sucks in the 6th...seen it time and again this season - 6th inning or whatever & gets into a big jam
CHRIS Verified Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 He walks too many, he is annoying, and when the Jays make the playoffs, while I am sure he will be their opening game starter, I wish it was MB, then Hutch, and then Dickey. If MB keeps this up I think he'll get the nod, and I think with his experience it won't be an issue. If MB was 10 years younger, maybe the team feels like they owe Dickey something as the "leader" or the "veteran" or whatever. I really hope that Dickey can find a way to gain some consistency. He's a nice weapon to slot in between Hutch, Stroman, or any other hard thrower.

I never understood why they automatically gave him the OD start again this year, but anyway, that's probably nitpicking.

Thats pretty good to me and would of contributed a lot to the winning streak. Not sure what your talking about.

I had no problem with Dickey getting the opening day start, but if MB has a Cy-caliber season to go along with his playoff experience, I think it will be him. At least I hope it will.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Lets hope. The other posters are right. They feel they owe Dickey something. He has the longest leash of all time. I wouldn't even have trotted him out in the 6th inning last night. I know why they did, but it is becoming increasingly obvious that during the 6th or 7th inning, he just gets pounded. I suppose the only good thing about him, is he chews up lots of innings, and can field pretty good. That said, MB does both better. I think they're hoping he can be better than he's been so they keep giving him the chance to go 7. This has happened several times where he's pitched pretty well for 5 innings, to his credit, only to basically fall apart in the 6th or 7th. What I don't get is how Gibbons keeps him out there when he's seen him make a mess of an inning several times. As I've said before, no other starter gets the rope he gets.

Sure, with unlimited bullpen options, pull Dickey if he sucks in the first 5

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Dickey has been ok for his salary, and we don't know what we gave up will be yet. But he is frustrating. Yesterdays start is proof of why anyone reading too much into "Wins" for a SP is a joke with so many variables. Loup doesn't bail him out in 5th from based juiced no outs no W.

It doesn't matter how the 3 prospects given up for Dickey end up. It was a massive overpay.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 It doesn't matter how the 3 prospects given up for Dickey end up. It was a massive overpay. Easy to say that on paper. I admit the deal was a head scratcher... But...his salary is market or under after last years Jimenez signings etc....he was coming off NL CY. You don't know what other options for SP would have actually done a deal with us. He will likely throw 600+ MLB innings of decent quality overall for us by the time Travis of Noah S do anything at MLB level meaningful. If he starts pitching better and we make the playoffs this year and/or next and he helps us in those series it will look different.
