GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Marlins style trade with the Phillies ..... Get Lee, Ruiz, Byrd, Papelbon, Utley/Rollins lol good luck with that
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Rangers are probably not going to make the playoffs this year. Gallo is a beast and will likely skip AAA. Adrian Beltre is 35 years old, and still very good, but they may not have a need for him anymore and he's due 18M next year. I'd love to have him and the Rangers MIGHT be willing to move him mid season if they're out of contention. What a great fit for 2014/2015 and move Lawrie to 2B permanently. 1B Encarnacion 2B Lawrie SS Reyes 3B Beltre What would the Rangers want for him???

It's a good idea, i just can't see the Rangers going into "sell mode" (f*** you 2nd wildcard). Although putting Beltre into our lineup would make this offense just downright scary. Rangers would want young controllable pitching i would imagine.

Yeah it depends on how the next month goes and how teams like Seattle and Anaheim do.

A Sanchez + Norris + Barreto ++ kind of thing

fireballW Verified Member Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Beltre would be great, with even his personality fitting in on this team well. His defense doesn't seem to be close to what it used to though and Lawrie's (SSS) #s don't look very good for 2B. It would be a pretty big downgrade defensively. Really anything that moves Lawrie from 3B to 2B is a pretty big downgrade defensively. Would love Utley if his knees could handle it.
fireballW Verified Member Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Reyes Cabrera Bautista Utley Encarnacion Lind Lawrie Rasmus Navarro This is a ridiculously tough lineup to get through.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I wonder if Dioner Navarro has any trade value? Probably very little. I think we all agree that Eric Kratz is our best catcher. Trading Navarro would make our team better, free up 5 million in cap space for next year and also free up a spot on the roster so we don't have to have 3 catchers on the bench. Who might want him? Baltimore? Texas?

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 It's obvious to me most people here like Kratz over Navarro, but what's the argument for that? He's an elite framer and defensive catcher. Also has some pop in the old bat. I don't have the framing/defense numbers, but that is the general sentiment.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 It's obvious to me most people here like Kratz over Navarro, but what's the argument for that? Kratz is by far a superior defender and is a really good framer. Navvaro is a below average defender and framer, who's hitting wRC+ 83. Navvaro also can't run. Kratz has been worth 0.3 fWAR in 64 PA. Navvaro has been worth 0.1 fWAR in 217 PA.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 He also has .216 babip and seems to call a better game then navarro plus he can catch the knuckleball. To me hes way better the navarro and its not even close.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2014 Author Posted June 16, 2014 I'm starting to think that the Jays are open to trade both Sanchez and Norris, and that scares me. Especially in a trade for Price or Shark.

Especially in a trade for Price or Shark. I doubt it. He said this just a few weeks ago... “We are pretty much maxed out in terms of payroll, but more important, we cannot keep trading our young [minor league] pitchers,” Anthopoulos said. “We also have to be realistic about whom we can extend if we make a trade for him….We have been feeling out teams and doing background work. I think we’d probably look at something where we have a pitcher for the rest of this season. That makes sense." - AA

It's the middle of June now and the Jays are still 11 games over. Every week that passes while they remain in first, it makes the idea of the post-season that much more real. A lot of GMs tend to develop tunnel vision in those situations, which is why I'm hoping AA sticks to his guns. Go ahead and trade Sanchez, but please not Norris. That's exactly how I feel as well. Outside of the 2014 draft class, Norris is the only prospect left (not including Stroman) on my list of guys I don't want to see traded. Maybe Osuna... I've got the same gut feeling with him that I had for both Sanchez and Norris before they jumped the lists. But everyone else is fair game.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 That's the problem...we need a starting pitcher, but there's so much parity in the league that you can't buy anything right now unless you massively overpay. We have to make due for another month. Exactly , AA needs to just have patience or it will cost a pretty penny ie (Norris +++). As I posted if we are up 5 games a month from now then I'm more willing to pay dearly than I am right now.

I think AA realizes he doesn't have a bottomless pitt when it comes to payroll and he's going to need pitching on the cheap in the upcoming years. I fully expect he would be willing to deal one of Sanchez or Norris - i just don't think he would gut the farm again and trade both.

I don't know. I don't mind him at all. Kratz has never done anything special to convince me of anything. I could see him being more valuable, but I could also see Navarro doing better over the last many months of the season.

Yeah the 4 players doesn't really scare me, it's all about the quality not the quantity. it would be sweet if we could package drabek in there i think the cubbies like him.
