jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 And Cruz with the 2 run bomb... Baltimore, f*** off. And someone tell the Yanks to start hitting. Right now, it's a three team race between Detroit/KC, Toronto and Seattle for the 2nd wild card (and maybe the 1st wild card if the Angels continue to stumble.)
Chappy Community Moderator Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Their offense is superior to ours right now. And Cruz / Davis are heating up. That's just dumb. Once EE and Lind are back our lineup will be quite intimidating once again. jays need to go on a run.
Vincent Verified Member Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Once EE and Lind are back our lineup will be quite intimidating once again. jays need to go on a run. Their offense is still better unless Edwin/Lind hit the ground running, which I find unlikely after injury.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Their offense is still better unless Edwin/Lind hit the ground running, which I find unlikely after injury. Never count out EE. He was on pace for a very special season before he got hurt.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Bye bye first place and Verlander for the Tigers, as it looks like it could be a serious shoulder injury based on his velocity.. Buster Olney ✔ @Buster_ESPN One evaluator had Verlander's fastball at 88-90 mph tonight. And to add insult to injury, the Royals win 3-2 vs. the A's. Royals now lead the AL Central, Jays/Mariners now chasing the Tigers for the 2nd wild card. What a fall from grace for Detroit.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Verlander might need a 15 or 30 day DL stint to get himself back and right If the playoffs started next week, I don't even think Ausmus would give him a start
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Jays are toast!!! Every team we're now chasing won last night
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Have to get rolling NOW Just had on off day. Playing a s***** team tonight. Our best starter is going against a one of their mediocre ones. And EDWIN is back. FFS, if you were EVER going to get something going...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 DET now has a series against SEA That helps actually I suspect Tigers fans are as un-calm as we are right now. Of course, they're used to having their team MAKING the playoffs so it's sorta different.

According to MLB.com we miss both Chris Sale and Jose Quintana. With Edwin back there's no excuse not to sweep the White Sox here.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Seattle clobbering the Tigers 4-1 early on. Porcello is struggling with command.. and the Tigers desperately need wins, as the Royals get a cakewalk of a Twins team this weekend, which could stretch the Royals lead.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Rays lead 2-0 on the Yankees. If the Yankees get swept this weekend, it could narrow the race to between the Jays, Tigers and Mariners for the 2nd wild card (and the Angels could still drop.. they've got games left vs. the Mariners and A's.) Luckily, this is unlikely to happen, due to their games vs. the hapless Rangers and the Astros.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Mariners up 2-0 early on. AJ Burnett is SO slow.. Mariners hitters are running wild on him (3 SB so far)
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Handsome Jake with the hit off not so Handsome Esmil Rogers....tie game, bases still juiced with 1 out. 2-2 Edit: Another hit....4-2 now.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Anddd Houston busts the game open. 5-2. Good ol Rogers.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Anddd Houston busts the game open. 5-2. Good ol Rogers. The Ninja knew exactly what he was doing when he let him go.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 The Ninja knew exactly what he was doing when he let him go. If only he didn't trade for him in the first place. Would be pretty f***ing nice to have Yan Gomes on this team.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 If only he didn't trade for him in the first place. Would be pretty f***ing nice to have Yan Gomes on this team. Yes, it was a bad trade, but at the time, they were expecting JP Arencibia to be the catcher of the future.. they didn't expect he would implode so badly. Plus, he has the benefit of playing everyday because Carlos Santana was forced off catcher due to injuries/concussions. In addition, Esmil Rogers had had a good season with the Indians at the time. Still, Gomes' strong catching skills and bat aren't helping the Indians contend. Bad signings (Swisher, Murphy) and poor defense are killing that team.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 There are just too many (decent/good) teams we need to lose while we win This was fun until 2 weeks ago
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 There are just too many (decent/good) teams we need to lose while we win This was fun until 2 weeks ago Detroit has a 4 game set with the Twins this weekend, who they have been mediocre against (4-4), and includes a double-header. Seattle gets Boston.. but after this series vs. Philly, I don't know if Seattle will continue to sustain recent success. Scoring was a major issue in that series. Let's not forget Kansas City could fall into the wild card. THey just lost to Colorado tonight 5-2, and they have the Rangers, Yankees(make-up), and a number of AL Central teams in Minnesota and Cleveland, who they've had slightly above average results, but not great.

You just stated KC might fall back and later say they will be playing the worst team in the MLB, another terrible team and an average team.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 The Jays have to go on another May-like run and then let the chips fall where they fall. Highly unlikely. It's a shame. On June 6, they were 38-24. If they just went .500 from that point, they'd be in a WC spot right now. Unfortunately, 27-38 is not .500. Or, when they were 60-50 on August 1, if they went .500 instead of 5-12, they'd be right in the thick of it. With this club, they either go on a run where they look elite, or a run where they look like the 2014 Rangers. No in between.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 All the Jays can do is just put the blinders on and try to win as many games as possible. 9 game homestand upcoming. Pretty much need to win 6 or 7 to have a chance.

Pretty much need to win 6 or 7 to have a chance. Luckily, it's against the AL Least, who we are 27-21 against. There's still a chance. Only real threat in that division is Baltimore, who are almost certain to win the division.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 1. The Jays were stupid to think that about JPA. 2. The Blue Jays aren't contending with Bautista and Encarnacion, so let's minimize how good/meaningful they are, too, right? Except that the Indians did actually make the playoffs last year, with Gomes and "bad signings" like Swisher. And have a slightly better record (winning percentage) than the Jays this year. Yes, but Cleveland doesn't have enough pitching after Kluber to contend. The losses of Kazmir, Jimenez, and a decent Masterson last season have hurt.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Lol. KC's contention hopes are dependent on the knee of Salvador Perez: Andy McCullough @McCulloughStar Salvador Perez will undergo an MRI on his knee tomorrow. Ned Yost still says the condition is not serious. Huge loss for the Royals if Perez needs to go on the DL.
