NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Who's going to replace him? Stroman? Let's pray.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 Whoever replaces him will need to have his arm built up to strength. The fact that Stroman is not a 100% lock in the spot now just shows the lack of confidence this club has in him.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 While Redmond>Happ there's no reason for Redmond to have the slightest consideration over Stroman.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 McGowan's fantasy value rise. McGowan = Wade Davis

FO did the same to Nolin and thank God he regained sanity.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 McGowan can be dominant out of the pen. Look at what he did last season. The Jays were foolish for never using him out of the BP to start the season especially with Janssen injured. I'm sick of seeing Stroman used in a mop-up role. Give him a rotation spot - let him have his ups/downs out of the rotation. Only way he'll learn.
bzapple Verified Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Whichever one it is, the other will probably have to replace Happ so whatever.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Dickey MB Hutchison Stroman Redmond/Nolin That's better rather than both McGowan and Happ in the rotation.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 McGowan deserved way, way more rope. The ups and downs of McGowan and Stroman would both even out to be greater than or equal to the steady shittiness of JA Happ. Rotation should be Dickey, Hutch, Buehrle, McGowan, Stroman.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 So this morning on BC, Blair asked Gibbers if there were going to be any changes to the rotation for the upcoming road trip. Gibbers responded saying that they were going to stick with the same 5 guys they've been using for the next while at least. Then later in the interview he hinted that Happ needed to pitch well tonight or he'd be replaced. Then 3 hours later he removes McGowan from the rotation. Awesome. Likely hadn't told Dusty yet so don't let him hear about it over the radio. Common courtesy is my guess.

It sounds like after hearing from McGowan that it was a recovery issue. He said he was not recovering well between starts and it was a mutual decision. Take it for what it is worth though. P.S Change your Avatar it freaks me out.
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 How the f*** does McGowan get the boot before Happ lol. Stroman should be in AAA to build up innings as a starter. He hasn't pitched well out of the pen. Because Happ is such a cry baby about having a starter role that he would probably tank in the bullpen... In all seriousness, I think it is because McGowen has acknowledged that he doesn't have the gas to be a starter.
The_DH Verified Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 If McGowan admitted he didn't have the gas to start then good on him.

He hasn't pitched well out of the pen. Moving McGowan to the pen kills two birds with one stone. The bullpen might simply be improved by not having to cover for both him and Happ and he should be an effective reliever in his own right. What they are doing with Stroman doesn't make much sense. If he's not replacing McGowan then I agree he should be in the minors and getting ready to come back as a starter. What he is doing now is a waste of his service time and the more it goes on the less he'll be able to start effectively if and when he's called upon.
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 There has to be a trade soon. They cant keep going on like this. All of the moves that people are complaining about are because the starters cant go more than 4-5 innings a start. Even when they pitch well, they have high pitch counts and have to be taken out. Even if Stroman can replace Dustin, then we're left praying that Redmond of all people can be serviceable enough to replace Happ once he falters, which he will. All the "depth" AA talked about...not wanting to shell out money for "fringe" guys, because of the depth we had at the AAA level, where is that now? Its hope upon hope at this point.

Gibbons has wanted McGowan in the bull pen all year . AA is calling all the roster moves, he is getting as bad as JPR.

McGowan is needed in the pen . Yes he is way better than Happ IMO but the pen is in bad shape and Mcgowan can really help out there.

Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Happ must have naked pics of AA... Only explanation for him still being on the 25 man roster, nevermind the rotation. Being on the 25 man roster alone is a head scratcher.

He's be better than what we have but not as good as he's been in Atlanta.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 f*** you Ervin Santana Goddammit It just makes me sick...he agreed to come to the jays..if it wasn't for the injury in Atlanta he'd be playing for the jays
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Everyone was telling me there was uber-depth in the organization, in terms of SP. Where is it, again, since we're all complaining about how bad the options are? they have a lot of number 5s to go to....last year they didn't even have that so the depth is a lot better...problem is they need another number 2 in the rotation.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 pretty clear McG was losing velocity and bite..... his arm can't handle SP unfortunately. too bad because he has the talent. Stroman has looked quite hittable
