Governator Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 with Francisco in the lineup and Lind back, and assuming Francisco remains consistent, this lineup would likely be one of the best 1 through 9. Hopefully Lawrie is ok with playing 2nd against right handers to get Francisco in the lineup...problem with that is Lawrie would essentially be playing 2nd most of the time...could switch back to 3rd post 7th/8th inning taking Francisco out & moving backup utility guy to 2nd for defensive purposes. Issue of course is what will be the impact on defense with Francisco at 3rd... My sense is when Lind comes back, Francisco takes to the bench but Gibby will try to get him as many at bats as possible with Lawrie shifting over to 2nd or Lawrie having a day off... You think Gibby is going to take away Lawrie's glove & bat so Francisco can play a few games? He should be fired if he did that.

Now that most of the horrible roster management has been corrected I plan on enjoying the baseball This is f***ing sports lol! If you can't enjoy it you are not really a fan and you might as well go and watch the leafs because they are sooooo much better. I have the Jays pegged at a 84 win season however i am going to cheer for them and enjoy the season instead of being a wet tampon.

How are you taking Lawrie's glove away at 2nd. He's going to make plays at second as well. In the limited time he's played there this year there was a ball he got to preventing it from going into centre and I was awestruck at how he was able to get it. His range is ridiculous regardless of where he plays. He will be more prone to making routine mistakes at 2nd, but he can be impactful at 2nd or 3rd. Miggy played 3rd for fielder. It's not as if teams have never decided to choose offense over defense....offense is still more important.

Now that most of the horrible roster management has been corrected I plan on enjoying the baseball I'm hardly despaired man, to be completely honest I've watched maybe an hour of Jays ball this entire season so far. I've found that it's much more enjoyable to be a fan of this franchise when I pay as little attention to it as possible. They have to earn back my interest/money after 20 years of sucking cocks, and a 4-game win streak that gets us back to the lofty heights of .500 ball isn't going to do it. It sucks, but I kinda have a contemptuous feeling towards this club right now as try as I might, I just cannot seperate my feelings towards Beeston and AA from the franchise as a whole. The FO needs to GTFO before I can genuinely emotionally invest in this team again.

That's what I was referring to but I think I misinterpreted it.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Still not sold on Francisco's ability to hit LHP over the course of a season, but he's doing ok right now. Just gotta keep playing him while he's producing. A nice pick up by AA though. His power was worth the gamble (not really much of a gamble - he was low risk/high reward all along)

His power was worth the gamble (not really much of a gamble - he was low risk/high reward all along) Honestly, he is exactly the type of bat we needed off our bench and while his D leaves much to be desired he can cover 3B and 1B when needed as well as obviously DH. The problem right now is that we have 3 catchers on the roster. That needs to come down to two and then bring Gose back up as the primary OF backup, pinch runner, etc. A bench of Francisco, Gose, Kratz and Kawasaki is the way I would go when everyone is healthy. We cover all positions on the field, have two power bats and a SB threat. It gives us 3 lefties vs. only one righty, but I can live with that for the time being.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Tell us again how Yan Gomes sucks at baseball... Or lol at AA for not signing Josh Johnson. Also... I don't say stupid s*** over and over again... As evidenced above.... You're hardly one who should think of themselves as smart. Wow....we have the hindsight king here. As for Josh Johnson, when mediocre relievers are getting 8m per year and more in free agency, why wouldn't someone take a risk on Josh Johnson?
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Ok seriously guys Francisco is not playing third base everyday. So every other day it is then! Lol

Under this scenario, we could go with a glove first guy at 2B and just PH for him late in games. That bench would get utilized quite well I think.

While I prefer Kratz, Thole hasn't exactly earned himself a demotion. Navarro will never get cut, so who do you send down?
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I'd start Francisco at 3B and Lawrie at 2B. I feel that Francisco has a chance to post a 2-3 WAR season whereas whatever shitbag 2B AA wants to call up (whether it be Tolleson/Getz/Kawasaki/Diaz/Goins/etc.) is replacement value at best. This plan also kind of hinges on Lawrie being able to play 2B acceptably, something I'm not entirely sold on. It's not ideal at all, but this roster has a gaping hole and I think it's the best way to fix it. Ideally I like Francisco off the bench. He would likely see plenty of playing time through the rest of the season as a PH and backup 1B/3B. He would play 3B during inter-league games, and would be a nice insurance option if any of Lawrie, Lind (should be back anytime now) or EE hit the DL. Plus if you go with a glove guy at 2B Francisco would see a lot of PH duties late in games.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 You are setting yourself up for disappointment then. If they're right there in July they will definitely trade for a win now piece, assuming the money available. If Alex makes a push for the playoffs by discarding more future and the Jays miss the playoffs, Alex should be fired this off season.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Who do we cut though? While I prefer Kratz, Thole hasn't exactly earned himself a demotion. Navarro will never get cut, so who do you send down? That's the problem. Right now how can we get rid of anyone? It's a nice problem to have, but it's really screwing up the bench.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Just like they "definitely" would've signed a starter and a 2B in the offseason? Actually buying at the deadline seems kind of likely for this front office. Perfect time to buy.. when prices are at their highest. Why get a front of the rotation starter for 4 prospects when you can get him for 6? Because that's what f***tards who don't understand the Toronto situation think is the best course.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 With this pitching staff I want defense behind the plate. Jays have enough offense especially once Reyes gets going. Navarro has cost us 1 game for sure and possibly more IMO. Good bat but too fat and lazy to play decent defense. Maybe he will work himself into shape if he gets the hint that his play isn't cutting it. What does being fat have to do with playing good defence? Jose Molina wasn't exactly a lithe catcher. And furthermore Navarro is way better than JPA.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 If Alex makes a push for the playoffs by discarding more future and the Jays miss the playoffs, Alex should be fired this off season. Sure but if they are in a position to contend and he does nothing that may get him fired anyways. If they contend as a result of further gutting the farm ownership will only see that the team contended. If they make the playoffs, he likely bought himself several more years as GM.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Unfortunately during the post game presser, Gibby was asked if Navarro was "close to a stint on the DL" and his reaction was as if he was asked the dumbest question ever. "NAhhh, no way, not even close". Is this surprising? How long was Melky left hobbling around in the OF last year until they made a move? Too long.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Sure but if they are in a position to contend and he does nothing that may get him fired anyways. I am under the belief that if they are with in 5 games at the deadline they will do what ever they have will have to to make this team better even if that means gutting the minors. I think AA is getting desperate and if he makes the playoffs he is going to be around for a longer period of time.

It's not like we're committed to him long term anyways. It's a bargain contract that right now is looking like a steal.

What should happen and what will happen are likely not the same.

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Starting to feel better about this team. The Starters are going longer (except Happ) BP with rest should sort itself out especially with casey back soon. Hitters all seem to be heating up (except Reyes which will come ) and the bench is stronger and with Gose getting on base the depth at AAA seems deeper than I thought. Stroman being ready and Nolin and Hendricks pitching well along with Morrow possibly coming back adds huge depth. Add to that the injury God is hitting the competition hard. Tampa down Moore and Cobb, Yankees losing Nova and Pineda, O's with Weiters issues and Boston still not replacing Drew and Ellsbury. Suddenly the odds are much better The Sox have some pretty good names coming (Owens, Barnes, Betts, Webster, Swihart, Vazquez, Delarosa, Cecchini, Workman, Ball, Margot, Marrero.....etc) and big names that are far off. They have a good team with good close depth, and good young pieces far away. They're set up to be good for a very long time. That's what the Jays should be doing and they're not.
shortstop Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 That's the problem. Right now how can we get rid of anyone? It's a nice problem to have, but it's really screwing up the bench. not sure what it is but really like Kratz as the backup...seems to be a real gamer in addition to his defensive capabilities compared to the other 2...unfortunately, likely he & Getz sent down with Lind/Lawrie are back...Tolleson can play pretty much any position and backup OF...
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Ken doesn't like fate players I'm assuming. An upgrade is an upgrade. It's a two year deal and it's looking like an undervalued contract thus far. I can't see any reason to complain about this.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 not sure what it is but really like Kratz as the backup...seems to be a real gamer in addition to his defensive capabilities compared to the other 2...unfortunately, likely he & Getz sent down with Lind/Lawrie are back...Tolleson can play pretty much any position and backup OF... Realistically you are correct, he is third on the depth chart right now and I don't see that changing unless one of the other two get hurt.
