Convo Verified Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Jays lose Sierra on waivers to White Sox. Per Dividi
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Nah they're going to convert him into a reliever, watch.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Nah they're going to convert him into a reliever, watch. then the Jays will trade for him and then he will get really unlucky and blow game after game.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 This is the only way he'd likely have value. Bench bat and mop up arm at the same time. Whatever happened to Micah Owings? The guy was able to hit, and he'd be a decent mop up guy in long relief. He'd be a nice platoon bat with Lind haha.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Are we getting anything for him?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Well, surprising Sierra got claimed. It may have more to do with Eaton's injury than anything. And the AAA options in Charlotte were: Blake Tekotte, Gorkys Hernandez, Denis Phipps, Jared Mitchell None of them are hitting, BTW. Hey, at least it forces the Jays to use Gose now, like they SHOULD have out of spring training.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Are we getting anything for him? Well, sort of. We get an improved bench from carrying Gose instead.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Blue Jays now choose between trying to make a trade, taking him off of waiver, or letting him go for nothing. Its not an outright loss unless thats what the Jays choose.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 That's waivers. DFA is different. No it is not.....Sierra was claimed off of waivers....if he was not he either goes to the minors or he can choose to be a free agent....again he was claimed off of waivers. Please let your facts correct

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 He edited it, and still f***ed up, lol. Dont really care...i was grilling at the time

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Both JFaS and LetTheBallFly were incorrect. LetTheBallFly described the current situation as a DFA situation, before the team has made their waiver/trade/release decision. And that is wrong. They DFA'd him a couple days ago, and then decided to take the waivers option, at which time the ChiSox claimed him. They had 10 days to make the decision, but they just got it over with earlier. He also erred in messing up the 3 choices ... you can't just "take him off waivers." You have 10 days to trade him, put him on waivers (no take backs ... if he clears, you can put him in your minor league system; if he's claimed, he's gone to the claiming team), or just release him outright. But what LetTheBallFly described was, obviously, a DFA situation ... and JFaS characterized the entirety of that as waivers, which was also incorrect. Maybe he was only speaking to the "taking him off of waiver" portion of his statement, but, regardless, he expressed himself incorrectly, as he is wont to do. And the other two were being their usual drunken obstinate selves. And I'm being awesome once again. And, so, we've summed it all up nicely. But putting someone on waivers within 7 days of a DFA is what occurred and specified under the designation of the initial DFA.....so its all the same until a final act is taken. In this case Sierra was claimed. Once he was claimed they then have the options related to claiming. They could trade with CWS, give him to them, or pull him back off....once back off he then goes back to the other two options.

If they pull him off waivers I'm pretty sure they have to put him back on the roster. They can't just keep running down the list just to keep the player. Once they've made the choice to place him on waivers and he's claimed, only one of three things can happen. He gets traded for something, he gets taken off waivers and placed back on the roster, or they don't work out a trade and just let him go to the claiming team go nothing.

Correct....thats what I was saying. People dont believe me that there are a few options at certain points. All this was coming from when I asked were we getting anything for Sierra, or did we just let the cws have him
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Pretty sure we just let him have him, something would have been announced by now if there was anything coming back
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 I'm actually surprised he was claimed. No risk for a team claiming him, he either continues to suck and they do the same thing the jays did, or they might get a few weeks of use out of him while a guy is in the DL.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 They've got nothing in the minors for Of prospects, they may as well take a flyer on a guy who had even minor success over a tiny time frame in mlb already.
walkoff93 Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Dammit!! The guy is 5 for 9 with the White Sox. He couldn't buy a hit with the Jays this season (2 hits) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/sierrmo01.shtml
sdyment Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Too early for a "Sierra regression to the mean" thread
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 4-4 in one game will make any SSS seem impressive
flafson Verified Member Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 He wasn't getting any AB's and the few he did get were pinch hit, obviously you can't get a sense of anything doing that. Playing time plus less pressure usually leads to better results for young players.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Like the flyball he dropped last night? Good riddance! With this we can now permanently End this Thread lol
