fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 So Reyes, was the Hammy 100%? “It wasn’t 100 per cent at all, when I was hitting in the box I was obviously thinking about running. I said in my mind, base hit, fly ball – I don’t know how I’m going to run fast. Today, I felt a little better today and when I tried to put a little speed … something is not right.” Ok why'd you play then? “I thought I could play through it. Sometimes you’re not 100 per cent and you feel like you can play, but that wasn’t the case.” How'd you know you had a hammy problem yesterday? “I just tried to play through it. I was having some problems with the hammy and when I hit the ball to centre field I saw the guy dive for the ball. I thought the ball was going to drop and bounce away from him. I tried to run a little bit faster between home plate and first base and kind of felt my hammy there. I had to slow down and get out of the game because I don’t want it to get any worse.” FFS what kind of management is running this team?? Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Lol I honestly have ran out of things to say about this management.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Soon we'll be hearing the "it's only April!"/"We have time to correct our mistakes" excuses from the FO. The laughing stock known as the Toronto Blue Jays continues....... Just think we have another 161 games of this comedy act to go.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 ^In fact, Dickey was already throwing out the "it's only one game" bs last night. We now know what AA was doing all winter gentlemen... He was creating an excuse list with Beeston.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 This largely Gibbons' fault if true. As the manager he should've intervened and sat him. He is supposed to have the last say on who plays and who doesn't. He's not the right guy to manage this team.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 The only excuse I can make for the team is that Reyes is probably being a lot more forthright now than he was before. Players are awful when it comes to this sort of thing. I listened to Dickey's audiobook on the trip to Montreal and there's a line in there where he says his number one advice to young players is never ever take yourself out of the game, never admit injury, never let them Wally Pipp you. That's pretty much insane but it's a pervasive mentality in sports.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 They probably wanted Reyes to get hurt all along so they could use him as an excuse.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Our organization is run by a bunch of clowns who know nothing about baseball, or sports in general.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Maybe Reyes was not honest until yesterday? It's hard to tell with what Reyes said. He does that open when he said I thought I could play and earlier said last week that he was way better. I don't think you are really going to get the truth about anything.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I can understand them not being cautious with Reyes. It's not like they have a near recent experience to draw upon of what it's like for Reyes to go down and have no middle infield depth. You'd have to be a witch to have seen this coming.

Bottom line is, when he had to be TAKEN OUT OF THE GAME last week, he should have been shut down for 2 weeks. Hamstring injuries are the type that can linger for a whole season if they do not properly heal.

Doc Verified Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Reyes loves being injured he's made a career out of it, lol joking.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 This team is a joke, plain and simple. It's been a circus for the past 3 years and there's no light at the end of the tunnel

I hate to keep blaming the FO for everything but I can totally see this. These are the same people who demoted Kratz to give Dickey Thole and called up Diaz over Kawazaki and don't want to sign Drew
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Gibbons is too smart for this stupid move. Montreal was heavily pushed by Beeston and co. You really think Beaston was setting the lineups in Montreal? That would be a pretty fantastical overreach especially for someone as clueless as Beeston.

That would be a pretty fantastical overreach especially for someone as clueless as Beeston. Not setting the lineup but keeping him in for the buzz. Once again I don't want to blame the FO but you're going to tell me Gibbons is smart enough for matchups, platoons, advanced lineup placements but not setting your best player at a shallow position? That our our medical team is clueless as f***.
The_DH Verified Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Reyes was out before this. They could have tested the hammy, all sorts of things but they didn't do it. So this is on management. A dumb f***ing hillbilly that nobody else would hire.

If we don't win this year, we'll win next year. This team is built for the long haul. Yup, we have many years ahead of us. Thank god for our young studs like Dickey, Buehrle and Bautista!
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Not setting the lineup but keeping him in for the buzz. As dumb as Beeston is, I would think he would respect the established division of responsabilities in baseball. Beeston putting pressure for Reyes to play in Montreal seems really eggregious. I think there was a failure to properly assess Reyes' injury. Reyes himself properly factored in the decision a lot more than he should have. He probably told everybody what they wanted to hear and everybody fell in love with the idea that this lineup was finally healty and went along with it. It took 100 games last year before the entire starting lineup actually played together. This year they were so excited to have the lienup healthy from day one that they let a gimpy Reyes play just to make it happen. Talk about hollow victories.
The_DH Verified Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Reyes took himself out before this. The injury was established. It should have required trainers to sign off on this. This is a coverup, either by the hillbilly for not doing his job or upper levels for pushing it and the hillbilly for not pushing back.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 RG : You're old school. You don't even have a cellphone, right? PB : Well, I've got one, but people don't have the number.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 PB: You go, 'Man, we've got speed. We've got Bonifacio and Rajai Davis on the same team? We've got jackrabbits everywhere.' You've got to say, man, this is pretty exciting. Well, the fans bought into it.
The_DH Verified Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Agreed but not anymore. Our team doesn't have the brainpower to win a first grade spelling bee. They don't have the stones to make a strong decision and stand by it. They don't have the strength of character to admit what they have and when I see plays like that debacle with two errors it makes me think the players are not playing with discipline.
