BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Again, once Rosenthal tweets a deal if often done within an hour IMO he's the most credible baseball source on Twitter, and I follow like 30.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Agree then - way too early to be making conclusions - Drabek could outperform Hutch the rest of ST, who knows For sure. Even Happ's struggles could turn around and hopefully increase his trade value which could come in handy IF the jays get Santana.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If we sign him for 1 year 14M, the question becomes - should we just have qualified Johnson instead?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 For sure. Even Happ's struggles could turn around and hopefully increase his trade value which could come in handy IF the jays get Santana. All for adding Santana Then we have 3 guys we can probably count on and can find 2 among the rest. Much better than having 2 and trying to find 3 from among the rest.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If we sign him for 1 year 14M, the question becomes - should we just have qualified Johnson instead? How good would this rotation look, with Santana and JJ both on 1-year deals... Dickey Santana Buerhle Johnson Mr. Glass
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 IMO he's the most credible baseball source on Twitter, and I follow like 30. Yeah it's not even close. I can't remember him EVER getting fooled and reporting something that gets debunked. OTOH Olney, Heyman, et al that happens sometimes.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If we sign him for 1 year 14M, the question becomes - should we just have qualified Johnson instead? Going out on a bit of a limb here.... but JJ may be done, a power pitcher that has lost his power
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If we sign him for 1 year 14M, the question becomes - should we just have qualified Johnson instead? It's already been brought up especially with the narrative that they've put out there that injuries and bad luck killed them last year and they're gonna give the same squad another shot. Well, JJ was a big part of that squad. There could be an argument based on JJ's health, maybe they didn't like his medicals...who knows.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 How good would this rotation look, with Santana and JJ both on 1-year deals... Dickey Santana Buerhle Johnson Mr. Glass Well that never would have happened though. No way AA would have signed/resigned two guys at 14M each.

OTOH Olney, Heyman, et al that happens sometimes. I think, in the last year, he got a fact wrong on something, can't remember what, but it wasn't about FA's. If he reports Santana has signed, I will book it. Literally.

xposbrad Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Going out on a bit of a limb here.... but JJ may be done, a power pitcher that has lost his power Since he's not with the jays now, you know he's going to have a come back year and put up better numbers than 4/5 of the jays' pitchers.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Well that never would have happened though. No way AA would have signed/resigned two guys at 14M each. Are you sure? Two potential 1st rounders as compensation after the 2014 season to replenish the farm? Two pitchers who may combine for 6-7 WAR during a season when they are going for it? Two pitchers in the final year of their contract? You can't align the stars more. BTW, I predict JJ could be the NL Cy Young winner.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Going out on a bit of a limb here.... but JJ may be done, a power pitcher that has lost his power I think it's telling that he signed with the Padres in that it shows he's looking for an advantage. I doubt many teams will give him a bunch of money even if he has a good year.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 No way the Jays would have a 150M budget this year. How much is a 1st rounder worth? They get those two pitchers, lots of WAR and two 1st rounders next year (but I know, nothing is guaranteed)? I think he could have convinced management to spend the moolah. Also, he would have traded Happ away to save ~ $6M of that.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 More reports saying it's the Blue Jays.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 They are saying now it's US!!! Who's they?
Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 BTW, I predict JJ could be the NL Cy Young winner. Jesus f***..........in what scenario would he not have a chance? Not exactly a bold statement.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Tweets are saying Rockies are out and Baltimore can't match the $14M. This bodes well. Watch the f***ing Yanks swoop in and step on our throat.

AA needs to clear some bodies and free up $$ to sign Drew, and this team is a true contender in my mind
sdyment Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 So all we need now is for Stephen Drew to see this all going on, get pissed off, fire Boras, and decide to negotiate his own one year deal with the Jays'

However, I just don't think the Jays had that kind of budget even if you trade Happ, you'd still be looking at close to 150M. If they have that kind of money, it may be better to sign Santana and Drew at this point, but I doubt it.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 More reports saying it's the Blue Jays. I can't find any from any reputable source Davidi says deal NOT done

AA needs to clear some bodies and free up $$ to sign Drew, and this team is a true contender in my mind I know you, and many others disagree, like 99% of you. But I'm okay with Goins at 2B. His defense is just sooooo good. This may be PR spin, but Seitzer told the Jays brass NOT to sign anyone and give Goins a chance because he figures he can make his offence solid. Great defence means our pitchers will perform better.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I can't find any from any reputable source Davidi says deal NOT done If you're ES, why hurry? Say the Jays have offered around $14.2M. Maybe they make it a 24-hour offer. That would give the other 29 teams a full day to one-up that deal. I think that's the agents tack, start a bidding war at the QO amount. It's genius. ES isn't out any money from what he could have accepted months ago, and he possibly gets a little (or lot) more.
