ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 No I expect McGowan to start until he explodes and they seem to like Jeffress more. Either of the two is fine for me though. This team is not turning around based on the 12 th pitcher. Oh, I see, you're assuming McGowan earns a rotation spot, that certainly would be nice. Hopefully, they sign Santana to a nice 1-year deal; Happ, Rogers and Redmond pitch well for the rest of ST and they can trade 1 or 2 of them for positional help.

flafson Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 This guy was the first to report about Santana in the morning, so yea he's legit.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I know it seems like we only have 140 games worth of catchers. Navarro is only good for 95-110 and Kratz for 60 but some of these games will overlap.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Make a new thread Flafson. Just put Report: in front.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 It's on MLBR NOW!!!! Make a new thread please. People don't want to trek through 16 pages of this s***.

Nice if we could get a reasonable bat.
Caper Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I won't even go that far. The signing itself is fine, but this is still a $150 million team that will be lucky to win 85 games. You're not invited to the parade.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I don't agree with this at all. Bringing in a couple of career backup catchers and a 2-win starter is still a giant failure of an offseason. The team is going to project at like 82-84 wins even with Santana. This just makes their remote playoff chances a bit less remote. We agree that they are now an 82 to 85 win team . I have said all offseasn they needed about 170 mil to get right into the thick of things . pretty obvios to me that AA didn't have that kind of budget . So is the failure Rogers , Beeston or AA . I have managed a division of a large Oil Company and had budgets to work with . I had bosses ,they wanted it spent certain ways and I could not exceed budget . When I did thru no fault of my own I got lashes . All my managers thought they could do a better job spending that money than I did . What they didn't realize was I agreed but my bosses didn't . I don't blame AA for the off season . He did what he thought was best with the cards that were dealt . I'm sure most here ( All of us wantabe GM,s think we could have done better . Do I like the Santana signing ? he was low on the list of pitchers I wanted but it is 1 year and our farm system is intact . Now no one can say AA can't or won't sign a free agent .
kgm1 Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 You're not invited to the parade. I would not wager a huge amt on a parade . The team still has to be almost perfect health wise to get close . Take a long look No positional depth No top of rotation depth Questional upgrade at catcher This team can not sustain any injuries that puts replacement or actually below replacement players anywhere on the field for more than a 15 day dl stint and can't afford many of those . Even with that we need a lot of luck .
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 The only way they get to 90 wins is by everyone staying healthy. Which statistically is not likely
