8D Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Canada still has a team in 2014.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 If not, does Beeston get called out mercilessly by the media for his comments about contending? Nope. They will praise his moxy and still praise him for last off-season's aggressive moves. I still think this team is seen as merely unlucky in a lot of circles. Of course, to some extent, they were unlucky last year but it's not like they fell just short because of luck. They were never in it. With better fortune, they would have made it closer but to assume they were a playoff team if not for luck is a silly notion that ignores a lot of the poor planning and the finger crossing that took place last year. Nonetheless, I think that's what a lot of people and most of the media believe.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 No Ramon Ortiz or Chien-Ming Wang Despite not adding any FA's and even losing one, we still have more depth at SP this year. So we've got that going for us.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 When the roof is open you can actually watch the game from that window floory thingy up their. I watched a bit of an argos game from up there last year. That's a good point! Probably the best positive we have, CN Tower and Jays for the price of 1!

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 By the time the Jays season starts, this s***** weather will be over. And if they stink, I can preoccupy my time with other things during the summer.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Bautista, EE, Reyes, Lind are still young enough to fetch a very good return
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Bautista and Edwin yes. Reyes doesn't bring back more than a good, but not blue chip, prospect IMO, and Lind is basically valueless. You're underestimating the fact that there are dumn GMs (like AA and Amaro) who will pay a hefty price for just the name
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Bautista and Edwin yes. Reyes doesn't bring back more than a good, but not blue chip, prospect IMO, and Lind is basically valueless. Lind can fetch a B grade prospect from A ball.... from a contender looking for post season bench depth
LunchBox Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I'll be attending games in DET rather than TOR, so at least the money from my ticket purchases will be going towards team improvement rather than souvlaki and diet coke.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 We're better than Miami?
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 We're better than Miami? Another positive is that this is basically the most unified I've ever seen this board. Most people are directing their mean, hurtful, sarcastic and cutting comments at AA and Beeston instead of each other. It might be end times but we have... peace.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 We're better than Miami? Stanton - Home run King Fernandez - CY candidate every single year Yelich - Future batting champ Marisnick - Handsome player ever Saltalamacchia - Best name ever Heaney - Cole Hamels twin
fapaholic Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 There absolutely positively will be no playoffs again for us this season.............I'm positive of that
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 We're better than Miami? No we're not lol
awsomest Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Stanton - Home run King Fernandez - CY candidate every single year Yelich - Future batting champ Marisnick - Handsome player ever Saltalamacchia - Best name ever Heaney - Cole Hamels twin Bautista - Former Home run King Dickey - Former CY winner Reyes - Former batting champ Rasmus - Handsomeless player ever Dionner - Worst name ever J A Happ - sure as hell is no Cole Hamels twin we win right?

awsomest Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 they just said on TSN that the Jays have the makings of a great infield. They do other then goins
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 they just said on TSN that the Jays have the makings of a great infield. Well we should be able to get 10 wins from 3B, SS, and 1B. Problem is when you add 2B that number doesn't go up.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 The possibilities of the following: -Dickey returning to his best -Bautista remaining healthy and getting another 50 HR season -Edwin joining Bautista for 50 HR -Laurie winning a gold glove at 3rd. -Romero making a come back -Bullpen remaining excellent -GETTING ON BASE more by every player -Average or better results at catching, helping pitchers with pitch framing -Lind and Rasmus with .300+ BA -No more clowning on the bench, showing some professionalism -All our starters doing a decent job and giving us 6 innings on average. One can dream.

Sleeper team for 2014 for sure, much like Boston was in 2013. Just imagine if Edwin, Bautista, Reyes, Colby, and Lawrie stay healthy all year. Runs!

The answer, Alex, is that you go 82-80. And finish 4th.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 it's only 162 games until next off season when the jays have a new GM and CEO.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Article just released by Jayson Stark from ESPN: http://espn.go.com/blog/jayson-stark/post/_/id/579/jays-gotta-be-better-right It actually is a good read, thanks
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 It actually is a good read, thanks blaming the WBC is lame. sure BL hurt himself there, but that could have happened anywhere and cant really be blamed on the WBC. the Jays babied ALL their starting pitchers and position players even after the WBC was finished. guys were only playing 4-5 innings every other day??? I get doing that the first week of ST, but doing it right up until opening day is mental and the team started off flat. I buy the things cant go worse to a certain extent, but changes were not made when everyone knew they needed to be made. JPA should never have been the starting catcher last year. after all the money and players the team spent last year, not picking Russel Martin was a sin of stupidity and falls on AA. the Fact that Bonifacio was even in the trade was ridiculous and only surpassed in in insanity level by the fact that it took them so long to figure out that he was a SOS. jays are already better this year because JPA and Bonifacio wont be in any of the 162 games this year.
