I don't think 2B is as much of concern right now. We can always trade for a 2B during the season if Goins bombs. But we know he plays solid defense and I think he has earned the chance to at least start the 1st few weeks at 2B. I'm more nervous about going into this year without adding to our SP. I have high hopes for some of our depth SP but I'd feel A LOT more comfortable with one more vet in the mix.

I learnt a very valuable lesson today, never cheering for tank nation and a protected pick again since the protected pick means nothing to this team.

 

I tried to read my first story about spring training and the jays today (normally in past years I can't get enough news), this year I don't give a flying f***. I got a few sentenced into the one about how everyone was impressed by drabeks bullpen session and wanted to smash the computer.

 

I know opening day I'll be like a kid on Christmas again, but right now I've never cared less about this team in my life.

Even Matt Snyder of CBS Sports isn't liking the Ubaldo Jimenez deal:

Should've just given Kevin Gausman the 5th spot.. Baltimore wasn't going to contend with the current offense with the holes at LF, DH, 2B, lack of speed because of McLouth signing with Washington, a putrid bench, and the inability to take walks.

Let me get this staight.

 

We didn't make any offers to both Jimenez AND Santana???

 

It's very clear that the only thing AA's done this offseason is come up with excuses. I mean, this is an unreal level of incompetence.

What's wrong with that?? When Joe Carter got to that stage Cito still had him hitting cleanup.

 

Give this to Carter...*at least* he has the HR and two WS rings to his name. Letting him and Cito f*** up 1996-97...well at least they brought something good to this organization in recent memory at the time. That's a step better than giving guys who never were, aren't currently and never will be MLB-level talent, roster spots.

Are we actually going into the season with Happ, + an unproven arm? With morrow only playing 1/4-1/2 a season...

I hope we come last and AA gets fired lol

 

 

 

I like this. I don't think we needed to sign either player. Sometimes the best deals are the ones you don't make..... There are a lot of wild cards in play for this staff. I can see some working out.

Still maintain the belief that the offense and bullpen can be top 10 units in all of baseball

 

I expect the pen and lineup to be sufficient. Doesn't mean AA couldn't have improved on 2B however. The rotatin on the other hand is probably the worst in the division.

Hutch, Drabek, Stroman.... odds of one of them having a decent season? Odds of Morrow playing at least 3/4 of a season?

We had the worst starters last year, and there is no way our bullpen repeats. We did nothing to fix our starters? Sounds reasonable to me.

All im saying is perhaps it does (big emphasis on PERHAPS) make sense to pass on Ubaldo and Santana and see if a guy like Stroman could right away jump into a major league rotation and contribute like you see sooo many other young pitchers do across baseball...Wacha, Fernandez, Cingrani, Archer to name a few from last year alone

 

Stroman will get his chance when injuries hit and they most certainly will. AA not making any moves to improve the rotation is going to prove to be costly when this team continues to get older all the while finishing 4th or 5th in the division.

Maybe Ubaldo said he didn't want to come here?

 

Bigger question is whether I want him to do well or play crappy next year.
