Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Whatever, we keep our picks and keep an extra spot open for some young cost-controlled arm to join the rotation after the inevitable tear-down begins in 5 months.

reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I called it. Do I want a cookie? No. I just want AA and Beeston fired. It's pretty embarrassing for them. Not much more to say.
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Alex! What are you doing! Eating gyros and ranting about value
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 "At the end of the day, we submitted an offer that we felt was fair. The dollars just didn't work. We feel based on Jimenez's stats like his record and ERA, and even some of his more advanced stats like OPS against, that he just wasn't worth this money, and we've got guys like Kyle and Esmil ready to step in to the rotation and give us 6-8 wins each."
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Damn. AA and Beeston need to get the f*** out.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 To be fair this isn't a done deal yet (though when it gets to this stage with a Rosenthal credibility tweet it's usually about done) The silver lining is that there's no such thing as a done deal with the Orioles. That being said AA is either an idiot for not matching this or he doesn't have any money and he's posturing. If the latter than he probably hoped Jimenez would sign for more money and to a better team because this makes him look foolish.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 Alex! What are you doing! Wiping mustard off chin and waiting for another polish sausage and fries
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 Well the optics are going to look bad on this. Less then 5 years and to a division rival no less. Yeah boom and boom both of those things make this look awful if it happens
Sparda Verified Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Please dont sign Santana Please dont sign Santana Please dont sign Santana If Anthopoulos signs Santana to anything even remotely similar he deserves a kick in the ass. I'm hopeful that it won't have to come to that.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Yeah pretty disappointing. I'm sure AA was thinking of getting one of those guys at like 2/$24 or something like that, which is how cheap he really is when it comes to FA's it seems. Santana is still available, and his market is likely very limited. Perhaps the Mariners could be interested. Though yeah, I won't get my hopes up with this Jays team.
Sparda Verified Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal · 5s Source: #Orioles in agreement with Jimenez. Deal is pending physical. So we've still got a chance.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 But the Baltimore physical!!!
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 pending physical hahaha AA is an absolute joke

"We will continue to have dialogue with remaining pitchers and perfer some of Santana stats such as Wins and Innings pitched. He also has led the league in home runs before which must be good!"
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 He's not the ace the O's need, as he hasn't pitched more than 200 IP since he was in Colorado. It pretty much speaks of them thinking Kevin Gausman is far from MLB ready, and Bundy won't be ready until June..
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Meh I'm good with Drew Hutchison, pass on Santana I'd still like them to sign Santana, they have just about no depth. Hutchison will get his chance.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Well the optics are going to look bad on this. Less then 5 years and to a division rival no less. 1. Less than 5 years 2. Division rival 3. Poorly run org that pitchers don't actually want to sign with 4. Josh Johnson Q.O. money
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Noooooooooooooooooooooo Ken_Rosenthal 2m Source: #Orioles in agreement with Jimenez. Deal is pending physical.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I'd still like them to sign Santana. Me too although Santana better be a hell of a lot cheaper than Jimenez for this to make any sense.

A useful player going for reasonable money to a division rival. Ouch ouch OUCH.
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Probably didnt like the 4 year term, Can't say I blame him on this particular guy

GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Click on the fangraphs link and his method for "almost as bad" was ERA lol -Kennedy casually ignores that Santana is right there too-
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Trades assets for Mark Buehrle and his 3/48 salary. Can't afford 4/48 for a better pitcher via free agency. BuT VETERIN PREZENTS!!!!!!!!
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 The worst part of this is, it leaves the 1 pitcher I and I bet everyone else doesn't even want. Watch even Santana sign somewhere else. But AA will throw up his hands and say, "Oh well! We tried!" I hope nobody's surprised when we're dead last in attendance and TV ratings. This front office can spin the optics however they want, but nobody's going to be interested in a team that sucks, didn't do s*** in the offseason, hasn't made the playoffs in 20 years, has no clear direction, incompetent people in charge, and has very little hope for the future in the farm system right now.
