Who cares, he opted out for a big payday, you think that'll effect his call all these years later? C'mon man!!

Who cares? Probably Burnett.

It's Toronto first of all, which is a tough sell even to begin with for pitchers on a one year deal. We just finished with under 80 wins in a disaster season. We way overpaid to get him the first time, including basically starting the whole "player can opt out" idea. He did opt out of his contract here and did not sign an extension. He was bood out of town, which is an understatement in this case. Ask anyone what their most memorable games were in the last 10 years and most of them will say AJs return vs Halladay. Halladay has pitched many gems so I'm pretty sure his performance wasn't what made it so memorable. There was a (unwarranted) hatred for this guy and it went well beyond a normal booing of a returning player. Fans were VICIOUS to AJ o his departure. There are many other contending teams who will want him on one year deals.

How are you saying c'mon man when you are actually trying to make a case for AJ BURNETT wanting to return to Toronto. He almost retired. He cares about his happiness and comfort and isn't going to come to Toronto for his possible final year. The amount we would have to overpay to have him come here would be ridiculous. It is scary this isn't common sense to EVERYONE on this board.

There is zero argument for why AJ would want to come here. Like I said, you would need probably at least 5 million above the next highest bidder.

I guess I can see why this makes sense to you but I think your are grossly underestimating what a mercenary attitude players have. Fans are fickle. Anyone whose been in professional sports for any ammount of time knows this and doesn't takes them seriously. Burnett knows that as soon as he signs the dotted line with the Jays, he instantly becomes a hero to Toronto again. That's just the way sports are. If he doesn't get this than he's got to be just about the dumbest of the dumb jocks.

Exactly. That's why no one ever go from the Yankees to the Red Sox or vice versa..... wait...

Only the players with big egos care or need to be liked by the general fan base. In their position there are always going to be haters. Most of these guys have an entourage of friends, family, agents, etc. to love them regardless of what the fans think.

Your right, it's probably more like 20 login IDs. You signed up a week ago and have 27 posts. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out you have more than one login ID. I write with dots because I'm lazy and because my wife's always interrupting me when I post. Why do you have multiple logins?

saskjayfan you're being baited again....ignore him...let's not have another thread ruined by nonsense.

None of this makes any sense. Shocked, I am not.

Hey there Yoda, why do you have multiple logins? Is that a straight forward enough question for you? Can you make sense of it? Why don't you answer the question?

You sound awfully upset. And this is my only account. Have your wife heat you up some milk and take your afternoon nap old man, you've had a hard day.

Jeff Blair on the air now. He says he KNOWS that the Blue Jays have been speaking with AJ Burnett's agent over the past few days. "I'm not just throwing STUFF against the wall here" he says.

I hate the way he puffs himself up but I also believe him here.

GET HIM. Whatever contract he signs will be a discount because it'll be short term. This would be so perfect.

The fact that AA actually dropped his name (among other) yesterday, for some reason that has me hopeful...

I know

And would leave resources for a 2B upgrade

Please do it

The fact that AJ has played here probably helps us.

I can see why moving to a new Country could be an issue for some players. I think once you play here though you realize it's not that different from alot of cities in the USA minus ESPN. Hopefully we can swing a move (Drew?) before going to Burnett and pitching the idea of playing on a contender for one final season.

Hell...throw in a limo ride or two for his wife as well.

That segment was PAINFUL to listen to. And that fan who called in saying he doesn't want AJ here because he tipped his f***ing cap during that bad game years ago (then proceeded to say the best SP options went Santana, Ubaldo, AJ, pretty much the exact opposite).

They are so out of touch with the market its crazy. Blair makes a comment about how Ubaldo will get 60/4 (high) and AJ will get LESS THAN 20/2.

PAINFUL!

This is how I feel as well. Players think they hate playing here but they never actually do when they do play here. The only players who asked out in recent years were 3B who hated the turf (Glaus, Rolen) or players desperate to win (Halladay) and they all left with class without slagging the team.

And Hillenbrand...

Hillenbrand f***ed up plain and simple. There's a really interesting recap of that situation in the John Gibbons chapter of Great Expectations.

Hillenbrand also slammed the Sox and comes across as an ignorant bigot

He has serious foot in mouth disease. He essentially kicked himself out of baseball and he knows it but he's found another calling as a way of making peace with that.

Halladay has arguably been the most respected player in baseball over the past decade, and he does nothing but praise the city, and his time here. You'd figure this s*** wouldn't be an issue anymore, but for some reason it still exists.

Andrew Walker @FAN590Walker

According to @GloBlair as he came into studio after us- #Jays may have more than passing interest in AJ Burnett. feeling said to be mutual.

Suddenly paranoid that Tampa signs Burnett and trades Price for a monster bat. And, naturally, stomps all over us. Goddammit...
