KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Why not? Good minors numbers.. but frequently blocked in the minors. He was pretty much handed a job in 2012. He didn't perform well defensively of offensively. He was only 22 at the time but I doubt his skills have improved to the point where he could provide above replacement value at the MLB level.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Ewwwww That's another way of putting it.

The kid was 22 playing in the Majors. He has a strong minor league track record where he was playing against men closer to his age bracket. I'm not saying that he's gonna be a breakout star, but I think he has at least a possibility to be decent.

I think it's a question that has to be addressed if any hope is going to be pinned on this guy. For all I know, there's a sensible explanation but barring one, my default assumption is that he's just not very good.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Pastornicky looked like he had potential in 2011, but it's been a steep decline since then. I'm not sure he'd be much of an upgrade, but as minor league depth, why not?

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 They're creating a new Toronto only, all sports HOF. John MacDonald, Tie Domie and Pinball Clemons are the first class of inductees. Joe Carter has gotta be in there too and Vince Carter

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Jayson Werth out 2-3 months with shoulder surgery, looks like Michael Taylor will be the starting LF to start 2015:
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Adds more fuel to the Zobrist to Nats rumours. Also a good reason why dealing Souza was a really bad idea. Although it just looks like Werth will miss Spring Training.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Oh, this... NL East Notes: Werth, Zobrist, Fedde, Shields, Phillies By Steve Adams [January 8, 2015 at 3:41pm CST] Nationals right fielder Jayson Werth will undergo arthroscopic surgery on right shoulder tomorrow and need two to three months to recover, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (All Twitter links). Werth will have his AC shoulder joint — the same joint that caused him to miss time in August — repaired at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. While*the first reaction of some (myself included) is probably*to wonder if this will increase Washington’s interest in Ben Zobrist, Rosenthal*reports that*that’s not the case. The Nats have considered the asking price on Zobrist to be too high in talks with the Rays, he says. A three-month recovery could*result in*Werth missing time early in the season, which could lead to increased playing time for Nate McLouth or Michael Taylor.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 ??? Not sure where you were confused here. I'll break it down 1. Loads of Zobrist to the Nats rumours (for Giolito) out there. Now I expect those to really take off 2. I ripped the Nats in the Souza deal, as I feel that Rizzo builds a starting lineup, not a 40 man. 3. 2 to 3 months from now...is Spring Training still. Hope this helps Spank! I really feel like I've got to get back to being more a sarcastic ass...even if it's to Spanky.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Well this makes me worry that the Rays got someone like Sonny Gray..
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I wonder if Lawrie/Escobar could sprout any drama

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 You expected something like this from Beane after trading Donaldson. We'll have to wait and see if true and what players will be involved.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Those have to be two pretty good prospects. Jaso is good but he's not a regular
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Barreto one of the 'spects? Wait and see to find out
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 You know, the A's might be pretty good this year: C - Vogt/some guy 1B - Freiman/Davis 2B - Zobrist 3B - Lawrie SS - Escobar CF - Crisp LF - Gentry/Fuld RF - Reddick DH - Butler BN - Freiman/Davis BN - Vogt/some guy BN - Gentry/Fuld BN - Semien Defense and roster flexibility for days.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I saw that edit lol I know not of what you speak.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 How good of a prospect is Robertson? On the surface this package seems pretty light, maybe its just me. A's offseason is the definition of trading players for short term and long term.
