BTS Community Moderator Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Also the Rays gotta be trading Zobrist next right??? Cmooooon Why? They're not hurting their 2015 season with their recent moves.
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I think the Nationals got a really good haul for Souza.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I think the Nationals got a really good haul for Souza. Yeah they definitely did. Looks like they understand his value
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Yeah they definitely did. Looks like they understand his value Inb4 JFaS saying that we could get Souza for Ryan Goins +
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 2/20 for Volquez, to the Royals. There's your James Shields replacement. UPDATE: Legit source found: I swear this will be the last anti-Heyman post I make, but if I weren't a baseball fan or knowledgeable at all in professional sport salaries I'd think Volquez -- sorry, "volquez" -- would be getting 10 dollars a year. Just report the news clearly, dude. It's like the minimum he should be doing. And wow, this is some swap with Rays-Nats-Pads. The Rays must have really found something to dislike about Myers.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I think the Nationals got a really good haul for Souza. And this is why I was puzzled at some of the offers being thrown around this board... like JFaS proposing Goins and Lugo for Souza. That's just flat out insulting the Nats front office, lol. There aren't many teams that are that dumb anymore.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Remember how we started wondering if maybe GMDM had improved? LOL.

Ott and Bauers aren't anything. Rivera had an incredible season and is projected to give huge positive value this season (especially when you consider framing) but he's 31. Souza as I mentioned is a very Rays kind of guy. Plays every position except catcher and pitcher...and has produced at every level after the age of 22. Is that toolsy guy, raw guy (Washington kid, who didn't start playing ball until he was 16, he also was considered a trouble kid) that usually teams give up on. Considering what the Rays gave up for Myers and Hanigan it's not a return that is going to wow anyone.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Padres also get Gerardo Reyes as well.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Lol, terrible trade for the Rays. Padres got the best of this one.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Nothing of high interest than normal AA banter: * Didn't want to get into specifics about Melky but sounds like they were never close * Wouldn't commit to say Sanchez would be the closer in 2015. Still seems him as a rotation guy. Will compete with Norris and Estrada for that 5th spot * Did want to acknowledge they've had interest in Toritani but wouldn't go into specifics. * Morrow was offered bullpen role, happy he got a starters deal in San Diego. I had to step away from desk but that's what I got right now I believe AA has Norris as 5th starter with Estrada and Sanchez in pen. It would be nice to give Norris more time in AAA but I think he starts before Sanchez
Westfan Verified Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Kemp deal hits a snag? Medical was on Tuesday and is supposed to be completed tomorrow . Wonder what the scoop is with the medical.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 No Kenta Maeda for the Yanks or Red Sox to overbid on:
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Kemp trade in danger of falling apart and tying the Dodgers hands on financially and on the 25 and 40 man:
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 So much for honoring your deals. Pretty sleazy practice to try to squeeze on a deal that was already agreed two right after you trade for another OF.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 So much for honoring your deals. Pretty sleazy practice to try to squeeze on a deal that was already agreed two right after you trade for another OF. If he failed the medical then the deal would be rejected, so it's basically just working out a new deal. No reason for the Padres to honor the deal since passing the medical would be a part of it.

No reason for the Padres to honor the deal since passing the medical would be a part of it. Its not the medicals that is sleazy, its the fact they have had LOTS of time to review this deal and its been hanging in the wind while the worked on a deal for a different outfielder.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 If you feel your team needs a player, you don't politely wait to finish another deal first before you begin pursuit. That's like the misunderstanding most people post about "concentrating" on getting a RP or a 2B. If that's how business was ever conducted, the Jays wouldn't have landed Donaldson. It's the Padres' prerogative to consider every avenue and act accordingly. If the Myers deal fell through, they'd be double screwed if they "honoured" the Dodgers by pre-maturely ending Kemp discussions (or vice versa).
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Apparently, Kemp has arthritis in both of his hips, thats the hold up with the medicals.
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Apparently, Kemp has arthritis in both of his hips, thats the hold up with the medicals. Old man Kemp
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 No biggie just get the Dodgers to chip in a bit more $$ for the double hip replacement
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 People can have their own opinions on if this was on-side or not, but I think it smells. I find it similar to if a team agreed to sign free agent X, but after that agreement found out they were in the running for free agent Y. They then delay actually agreeing to the deal with player X while "reviewing medical records". They end up signing player Y and go back to player X and say they don't like the medicals, our new offer is this lower number. Sure player X is free to go back to the next highest bidder, but is has costs him time and maybe other opportunities are gone at this point. It could be totally innocent with one having nothing to do with the other, but it makes me raise an eyebrow.
Brenner Verified Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Apparently, Kemp has arthritis in both of his hips, thats the hold up with the medicals. ouch that is bad, he needs to come to the AL to DH.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 ouch that is bad, he needs to come to the AL to DH. Maybe that brings Seattle back into play, they don't care if he can't run in the outfield.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Jesus. Its crazy how quickly Kemp has deteriorated. He had that 40/40 season just a few years ago.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I hope the deal falls apart just so that it makes the whole situation awkward for everyone.
