You're right. I thought he at least had a favourable split but not even. He's gross from both sides.

And check out his UZR (sss but scouting reports considered him fringe).

He's kind of like a Junior Lake that never got moved off the position

Shi Davidi was just on MLB Now and speculated that the Jays have between 5-7M in payroll room left.

Sounds about right with the buyouts they have. Should be able to unload Navarro so really its closer to 12 million.

Have to factor in buyouts for next season, Canadian dollar plummeting will make revenue for the coming season go down at least 5-10%

props to Rogers still convincing people with their ******** excuses

Lol at the fact people are still bitching about rogers not ponying up money. We have more then a high enough payroll to win.

Rogers, like most Canadian teams, hedges against the Canadian dollar, making it a non-issue, and the dollar will likely rebound within a few months once oil prices stop falling and the US dollar starts to drop. The buyouts are more an issue, though.

Toronto is currently at a *projected* $127.5M before benefits. Thankfully after this coming season, Ricky Romero comes off the books, along with Mark Buehrle.

Way more than I thought he would get.

I thought he'd be looking at getting more like 5M if he was lucky (including incentives).

Shi & Co. speculate all the time about the Jays payroll and are rarely right.

AA has done enough payroll-manipulating maneuvers (heavily backloading Martin's deal, trading Lind and Happ, etc.) that I think he still has the resources neccessary to add stuff. Navarro's $5MM could easily be shed too.

This is how I tend to look at this as well. Shi & co. are decent reads, but they're under an obvious obligation to keep the traffic flowing to the Sportsnet page. Their analyses really aren't that much different than what some of the more baseball-business savvy posters on this board would put together.

And yeah, the payroll maneuvers suggest the attempt to land as many effective pieces as possible. I tend to think he'll need to resort to trades at this point, as guys are flying off the FA shelf now. Who knows what's coming when it comes to AA? Most trades have build up, but AA's seem to just happen. The last one I can recall being in the news before it was actually news was the Dickey move.

Yes and no. If you already have big chunks of that tied up in over-valued players, under-performers, aging guys, then maybe not.

Luckily, most of the bad contracts outside of Reyes come off the books after 2015.

Shi is the only media person who I believe has ANY inside knowledge, so if he says this, I tend to believe it has some merit.

Why do you believe he specifically has insider knowledge? I follow him on Twitter and usually take a peek at his pieces, but he's always just struck me as a guy who just knows his business well enough to make reasonable predictions.

Kershaw

Greinke

Ryu

McCarthy

Anderson

has to be the best rotation in baseball.

Providing McCarthy and Anderson stay healthy. Both of them have a checkered injury history.

Plus, didn't Beeston say payroll was going up before the off-season? What was the team payroll last season 143mil? I suppose AA could be saving some money for the trade deadline.

I wouldn't put it past Beest to turn the fact that the backloaded contracts are kicking in into "we have more money to spend" to appease the hype train.

When the majority of your revenue is in Canadian Dollars it is still going to cause you to lose money even if you do hedge..
