jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Cut those A's odds. Eric O'Flaherty just served up a game-tying HR to Tyler Flowers to tie the game at 4.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 No score in Seattle. Why do I have a feeling this Astros/Mariners series feels like a trap series?

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Because ur dum? No, I feel it's a trap series because Houston took 2/3 from the first place Angels last week, and the Astros have Colin McHugh going tomorrow, and rookie Nick Tropeano, who the Mariners have never seen. If the Mariners don't take this series, they could be in trouble, because they have mostly A's and Angels games left, one more series in Houston, and us.

If the Jays can stay 4 games behind the Mariners before that series, at least they will have a chance of a sweep. Of course this means Tigers have to drop all their games Losing two in a row to Boston really hurt, especially that first one we had locked up. That loss was huge
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Still tied at 4 in Chicago. Earlier this season, Oakland would easily win these games.. not now!

They are in trouble, as well, as they can't win vs. Detroit, have no wins vs. Boston this year, and still have Cleveland left. No Minny to fall back on.. they're done with them. Oh, and they still have some games with the White Sox left.

Yanks and Indians fans are also pipe-dreaming as well. But the Indians have a better chance than the Yankees.. the Yankees can't control their destiny, with nothing but divisional matchups left, and basically need both Seattle and Detroit/KC to fade.

The 4 games vs Seatle at home keeps the hopes alive, but it's the Jays. They could be 1 game back right now and I wouldnt be optimistic
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Collapse continues in Oakland. Tyler Flowers walks off the A's with a solo HR off of former Blue Jays pitcher Jeese Chavez. A's now only 1.5 up on the Tigers, and could be only 1 up on the Mariners at the end of tonight. And they're only 0.5 game up on Kansas City. Boy, the wild card race is getting TIGHT.

You look wayyyy too much into team vs team matchups. Baseball is about indv. vs indv not like football where a certain team can have a better matchup with another team based on playing style.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Oakland's collapse is nearly complete. Thanks to Seattle's win last night, the A's now are only 1 up in the first wild card, and 0.5 up on the Royals, 1.5 vs. the Tigers. And with a series vs. the Mariners this weekend, suddenly, the wild card race could become wide open, with even the Yankees, Indians, Royals/Tigers and Jays not out of it. The Mariners aren't in the clear yet, though.. the Angels may have something to say about it, with 7 remaining vs. them. At this point, Oakland can't even beat bad teams.. they're now 14-21 since the Cespedes trade.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 People saying Martin will be out of our price range MLB Trade Rumors The Pirates want to keep Russell Martin, but the veteran’s price in free agency could be too rich for their blood. The 31-year-old will be the best and youngest catcher on the market by far and even though catchers historically don’t cash in in free agency, he won’t be had for another two-year, $17MM bargain. He won’t garner something like Miguel Montero‘s five-year, $60MM extension but he should at least beat the three-year, $26MM free-agent deal that the Carlos Ruiz signed last winter entering his age 35 season. Pittsburgh could try to keep Martin with a one-year, ~$15MM qualifying offer, but as Rosenthal notes, they didn’t do that with A.J. Burnett last winter. Will be interesting to see where he goes. I don't think we get him either way, but it will be interesting.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Wow check this play out. Three balls thrown away by the Dodgers in one play and a very honest, non-homerish call by Vin Scully http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/gotta-see-it-sloppy-dodgers-disappoint-scully/

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 #TooManyCubans Puig is such an aggravating player saometimes The throw to first seemed fine to me. The last throw was terrible and probably a case of trying too hard to fix the situation.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 ^^That was honestly the 2011-2012 Jays on a weekly Basis
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 ^^that was honestly last year's jays on a weekly basis ftfy
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 ftfy Last year's team was a mess but those 2011-2012 just had putrid defenders all over the place, with Juan Rivera who refused to put any effort out there at all, Eric Thames who had no idea what he was doing, Davis who couldnt play center field to save his life. Sierra who ran the wrong way half the time,
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 The throw to first seemed fine to me. While he watched a good pitching performance potentially go to waste in front of his eyes. (Dodgers eventually won the game)
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I give 5/60 in a blink of an eye. AA counters with 3/24 plus a club option, one week free use of his timeshare in Santorini, and the promise of a joint Martin/Kottaras bobblehead day in 2016
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Martin deserves a lot more hype entering his free agency. He's on his way to a 5-win season and was worth over 4 last year, not including framing (which he's excellent at). A true impact player.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Its a shame Narvarro hit so well this year True, but I don't think teams should be overpaying for Martin. This guy was dumped by the Dodgers and Yankees years back due to poor offensive results, and this season is his best due to being a free agent after this season.. will he even repeat this in future years, or will he end up a free agent bust like Brian McCann, another fellow catcher? And who's going to want him? Yankees won't take him back (McCann), Red Sox have young catchers (Vazquez, Swihart), O's have no room, Rays have no money. As for the rest of the league, I have no idea.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Do you think the Jays should go after Headley? MLBTradeRumors had a stock watch piece on him.. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/09/free-agent-stock-watch-chase-headley.html Doesn't look like a return to NYY is in the cards, especially due to tax and A-Rod concerns.

Depends if he wants to play on turf. I would still give him 10-12 million$ even with the injury concerns.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 A Rod is "only" costing them 21M next year. And the year after that. and the year after that. LOL
