Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Yeah, because there aren't advanced metrics advocates who say stupid s*** like "it was probably one scout who looked at his ERA and then decided he should be DFA'd" when a guy like Santos is given the boot. Don't dish it out, if you can't take it. Obviously it isn't true that Darwin Barney was ever more valuable then Miggy but He probably latched on to some idea about how Barney was way more valuable defensive player then Miguel Cabrera and reworded to suit his point of attack. Speculation on my part
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Anyways he mixed up players, but I bet you would have the same reaction if he said Votto or Posey
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Lol, Baseball Reference WAR is the one that has Barney as being very valuable at that point. I'm pretty sure there's a reason why people on this board rely more on fWAR. And btw, I don't see how it's that big of a deal that Barney may be above some in WAR at one point in a season, he's an elite defender, if he could hit for 100 wRC+ for a period of 3 months it wouldn't be completely out of the blue to see him above someone like Cabrera, who maybe was having a few down months (not that this happens very often or did happen in this case) and everyone knows that he's a horrible defender, specially at the hot corner. By the end of the season regressions have likely happened and then Barney goes back to hitting abysmally and Cabrera makes up for the first months by being a beast again.

Nox Verified Member Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 And there has probably been a month or two somewhere in his career where Barney had a higher batting average than someone much better than him. Stupid "point" is stupid.
bzapple Verified Member Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 No, Danny Knobler, nobody remembers midseason WAR figures. What an irrelevant thing to say lol

I feel like there are a lot of guys out there like Knobler who have their straw man mostly pre-built so that when the time is right they just throw a hat on it and tweet, TA DA! Pretty sure there was a Heyman tweet a few days ago that started out, "I love WAR, but...."
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 No, Danny Knobler, nobody remembers midseason WAR figures. What an irrelevant thing to say lol Danny, did you remember the half of the porn "I'm f***ing your momma and your aunt"? Nobody remember the mid Danny!

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Yankees/Rangers still scoreless in the 11th. Headley's 0-2 with a K. And the Yanks better score soon.. all they have left in the pen is David Huff and gas can Jeff Francis.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Chris Perez 4 straight walks. Wilson, Perez and League in the same team lol
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Yanks/Rangers going to 12. Ellsbury chokes with RISP.. and against the Mariners bust Ryan Feierabend.. Huff now in, leaving Jeff Francis the last pitcher remaining in the Yankees pen.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 John Harper @NYDNHarper · 1m And the fans head for the exits as if it were pouring rain. Can't blame them. 2 runs in 20 inn. vs. Rangers and their AL-worst 4.90 ERA. And yet the Jays managed to light up Rangers pitching, even with a short-handed lineup. How could the Yankees be so pathetic offensively vs. the Rangers?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Holy does Santiago suck... even though it's 0-0. He's already blown much of his pitch count in the 3rd inning. Good thing for the improved Angels bullpen.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Anyone found the Yankees bats yet? Still 0-0 in the 13th.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Texas finally broke through off of David Huff, thanks to JP Arencibia.
labadee Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 lol JP. now lets see if they can hold the lead
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Tied up again.. Soria just gave up a game-tying single to Ellsbury.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Rays are going to move ahead of Boston. They're about to win vs. St. Louis as we speak.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 And as usual, the Yanks GIDP.. on to the 14th. Jeff Francis coming in.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Soria escapes bottom 13 by the skin of his teeth. Game keeps on, though. Come on, Beltre.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 At the rate things are going, the Yanks are going to have to claim Brad Mills off waivers just to get a fresh arm after this marathon of a game..
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Dang it JPA.. Can't you take a walk??
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 The Yanks/Rangers game has now gone so long, the Rangers are using Nick Tepesch (who we lit up on Sunday) in emergency relief. Will we see a position player pitch tonight?
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 f***in' Mets. Come on, you scrubs.
