I have not given up on the Jays yet

My belief has been severely tested but I refuse to give up all hope!

If they can just hold their own for 2 more weeks.... Lawrie and Lind and Edwin... And who ever that Orioles guys is, com back.

Agreed, which is why I think a pitcher should circle the mound with a bent arm out at their side any time they get EE out ... and the pitcher and catcher should do a 2-minute "impromptu" dance/high-five session every time they punch out either Lawrie or Bautista.

Sure, whatever spices up the game. Extra entertainment is fun. The "sanctity of professionalism" writers can get bent as far as I'm concerned. MLB shouldn't be the No Fun League.

I still can't help but roll my eyes at Rodney, though. It was basically like a villain in a pro wrestling match turning his back on the ring to gloat at the crowd and then getting f***ing smashed from behind with a folding chair by the hero.

Yeah no harm in bringing him aboard at AAA. If he doesn't pan out, no loss. Maybe the Giants get lucky like they did with Pat Burrell back in 2010.

Jays 2B > Giants 2B

Hicks - 75 wRC+

Adrianza - 55 wRC+

Panik - 51 wRC+

King Felix and Iwakuma have been pushed back to the Baltimore series. Guess they see the same opportunity to help the Jays and Yankees by keeping their backend starters away from the O's.

Erasmo Ramirez and either Taijuan Walker or Tom Wilhelmsen will start Tuesday and Wednesday.

Speaking of Thames-type defense.. the Yankees have FIVE errors tonight, with Shane Greene committing 3 errors (most since Tommy John did it.) Brian Roberts and Derek Jeter had the other two. And the Yanks are losing 4-2 as a result.

Also, strikeouts are much more of an aesthetics issue than shifting is. Shifting may make a few pull hitters angry but it doesn't limit a fan's enjoyment of the game.

It's no coincidence that these discussions about banning shifts are popping up in David Ortiz's down year.

With his tendency to whine I wouldn't be surprised..

I guarantee you that most casual fans don't know what a shift is, could not recognize one if asked to, and could not care less.

Darwin Barney, future Toronto Blue Jay, D'd FA.

To make room for Bonifacio no less. It doesn't say much for the value of an all glove 2B (cough Goins cough).

Did he just have that in a little notebook somewhere, anxiously waiting to get back at the fancystat nerds?

I definitely think so, just waiting for the day to shove back at the face of those "nerds"

I'd probably be able to analyze it a little better if he actually showed us where he got that from

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, but google indicates that in August 2012 they were apart by at least 1 WAR. Maybe before then that they were even or Barney was ahead.

Either way, I find it funny how quickly you have come to the defense of WAR when that (and many other examples) show that it is still flawed in some glaring ways.

edit: Alright I looked at an article and he may have got his names mixed up. Barney tied war with Votto and Posey. Not exactly Miguel Cabrera, but he still doesn't belong in those discussions.
