Re last night's brawl

"After the game, Rays manager Joe Maddon correctly pointed out five-run leads aren’t exactly safe, even in the seventh inning, and his side did not object in last year’s ALDS when Jacoby Ellsbury stole second base with the Sox leading the Rays by the score of 8-2 in the eighth inning.

“Our goal is to not permit them to score runs,” said the Rays’ skipper, who had his 700th Rays victory overshadowed. “Their goal is to score runs – the whole game. That’s always been the goal within the game of baseball. Apparently some of the guys on their bench did not like that.”"

Gotta love Maddon calling them out on the Jacoby steal.

He's just the best, how do you respond to that?

"that's different cause jacoby is no longer here and plus it's the playoffs we do wateves we want"

Haha, iirc Boston knows what it feels like to miss the playoffs due to 1 game.

Ah man... That's a great montage. Seeing the huge tool blow the save for the SAWKS is of course the best part.

Seeing BJ Upton's numbers always reminds me of why we won't be able to afford to keep Colby Rasmus. I can't believe the Braves forfeited a draft pick and gave him that much money.

Rasmus isn't going to get that kind of money though. I don't understand why all of the Jays media (Wilner, Davidi, Blair, Stoeten, etc.) keeps saying he will.

He's a pretty mediocre player.

No, he is better then mediocre at least talent wise, and all it takes is 1 GM.

Is he? He's a league-average defender, a league-average runner and in his career a league-average hitter. Lots of GMs will be scared off at the strikeouts and inconsistency too. The "talent" comment comes from his days as a prospect. 2806 PA in you have to throw that out the window and see that he struggles to make contact and is not an elite power threat.

Keep in mind that we'll throw him the QO. He's not a good enough player to warrant GMs not caring about the QO IMO. Would you definitively say he has a better FA case than Drew, Salty, etc. had this offseason? I don't see it.

He's got a ton of power for the CF position and is still quite young. That combination will have some team forfit a draft pick to sign him. Absolutely he is better than the free agents who were stuck in the offseason and plays a premium position.

Wasn't he one of the better CF in all the AL last year not named trout? He has great power, is still young, someone will take a dip on some rasmus.

Yes, Rasmus was a very good player last year, but he was also an abysmal player in 2011 and 2012. Last year isn't who he is: the .356 BABIP is 59 points above his career norm. His career HR/FB is 12.8%, that's not 'great power.' He has good power and can be a good player if he gets lucky with BABIP.

BJ Upton was an above-average player in each of the six seasons prior to free agency. Colby is not that guy.

Colby turns 28 in a few months. He's the past the point where you can expect him to get better. Also, "ton of power for the CF position" doesn't really mean anything. He has a track record of providing a certain amount of value to a baseball team and that is what teams will care about.

2 walks and a 2 run double from J Upton

Suck it Buchholtz/Farrell

Woot!

Buchholz is really bad this year lol. He's lucky only two runs have scored.

Also, you used a Metallijay spelling...

Is Buckholz on his way to becoming the next Ricky Romero? He cant throw a strike for the life of him. 6 walks now and still just in the third!

Buchholz rate on the season (3.99 / 9 IP) is tolerable though. He's had bad stretches of control in the past too before rebounding. It could be that he's prone to losing his release point for long amounts of time. Romero's issues are supposedly mental in nature.

GMs will always look at what you have done most recently. If he puts up another 3 win season this year he get paid a lot of money.
