We've all been impressed with Tampa over the past few years. They've done a tremendous job.

 

But you can't help but have the feeling that they're one bad off season plus one serious injury to a key player away from a 4th place finish. It feels like they're always on a tightrope. They don't have positional depth. And they can't buy their way out of trouble.

He made 23 starts in AA last year. I say he's a starter.

Well what "the industry" believes and what the Rays believe are two different things. I'm guessing they didn't give up all that to make him a reliever. He's a 10+ K/9 starting pitcher with virtually no hype. That's makes for a pretty interesting guy to pounce on.

Edit: I think the way this plays out is that basically Alex is going to do everything he can to ascertain the current location of their jimmies, and use this information to rustle them severely.

I really don't think the Mariners move Franklin for any less than Sanchez or Stroman. I feel like people forget that Franklin is only 23, was a consensus top-100 prospect entering 2013, then crushed AAA and held his own in the bigs at 22.

Maybe I like Karns more than most, but this guy has a big time arm and stuff. If he can stay healthy I really like this trade for the Rays.

I agree unfortunately, but for the right trade I might even consider that. We'd have to get back more than just Franklin though imo, especially if we included Happ and possibly Gose who they would probably require.

It's the Mariners... they have a 4-5 players that should be playing DH or 1B with Morrison, Hart, Smoak, Montero and most likely Cruz

It's the same team that started Ibanez 89 games in the OF last year

They might not be great this year but they could be in good shape in a few years IF run properly.

They need at least 2 of their 4 young pitchers to turn out to be something, and the odds are good.

 

None of their acquisitions this year have been risky.. minus cano but that is many years away.
