With the Royals signing Infante does that make Colon expendable? I'd be interested in Rasmus for Butler and Colon if we were able to get a decent prospect from the Pirates for Lind.

This is a bit un-Rays-like.

 

I agree. First Rays move in a long time that makes no sense to me. Really don't like it. Feels like a reactionary move to missing out on guys like Edwin.

The guy put up 2.7 war last year and is making the same as Lind. There was also nothing else on the market, it's a good deal for them.

He also put up a -0.4 WAR the year before.

This deal would be getting crushed if any other team but the Rays extended it. It doesn't make much sense.

 

Loney doesn't walk, has no power and his defense is good but overrated. And there's no upside other than the always-present possibility of a fluky BABIP.

Don't see anyone in this thread liking the deal, but I don't think people are going to crush Friedman for one single questionable deal in a career filled with brilliance. The Rays rarely come out badly from any deals they make, so it's hard not to give them the benefit of the doubt.

 

This and the act of acquiring Delmon were just kinda weird.

3 years, 21 mil for Loney. This one is a bit of a head scratcher for Friedman IMO.

 

There was really just no one else for them to get

 

Not every TB move can be golden

 

This was done out of necessity. Bet they didn't want more than a 1 year deal either
