The Toronto Blue Jays are believed to be in talks with at least two teams, if not more, to make some changes to their roster for the 2014 season. It all comes down to when and if general manager Alex Anthopoulos will feel comfortable enough with the proposed deals to pull the trigger.

According to a report in Toronto Sun, the Blue Jays have been talking to the Chicago Cubs about starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija. The Cubs are said to want Toronto prospects Aaron Sanchez, Marcus Stroman and a third player in return.

"The acquisition price doesn't work for us right now," Anthopoulos said. "We continue to have dialogue, so if you want to look at that as encouraging, I don't know. It's not so far out of the realm that we won’t continue to have talks."

Another conversation that might ultimately bear fruit is with the Kansas City Royals. Jeff Blair of the Globe and Mail says the two teams have talked about a deal that would include an exchange of prospects that would ultimately bring Billy Butler to Toronto.

That potential Butler deal might gain some traction if Adam Lind ends up getting dealt to the Pirates, a trade that has been rumored to be an option for Pittsburgh, depending on how their pursuit of James Loney ends up.

Kinds stuff we already know, but OK

What could we get from Pittsburg for Lind???

I kind of thought Brewers was his more likely landing spot in trade but Pirates makes a lot of sense too

Probably prospects. But someone else with better knowledge of all their prospects, could probably answer that. GeorgiaPeach?

Like I've said several times, I'm fine with dealing ONLY Sanchez, if Shark signs long term... The Butler/Lind switch is great for me assuming the price is right on that too... Looks like they plan on giving EE the first base job full time, with hopes of DHing Butler... In theory it all looks good... Let's just hope AA doesn't get beat up too bad here

LOL at GoergiaPeach having better knowledge on prospects!

I don't understand why they want Samardzija so bad His numbers aren't impressive and the asking price is sky high.

Agreed. He's good not great

If I'm trading a major package away I want Cole Hamels

(Shark being dirt cheap augments the appeal somewhat though)

WOW! We never got that much for Halladay. 3 times Cliff Lee was traded never returned that much

Nope... Give zero f***s about wins. None of his other numbers look overly inpressive. Solid #3 if everything clicks. Not worth the asking price. Would stronly prefer Garza for nothing but cash.

Last couple years he's pitched around 200IP with a 3.40 xFIP. He has a 9+ K/9 rate and his control has moved in a good direction the last couple years. I'd be happy for that for my #2 guy. He's also not a guy that's definitely peaked already. I've read lots of opinions saying he's a break out candidate. He's a better target than people think

Garza meanwhile seems to be going in the other direction.. K rate dropped, gb% dropped.. he's only given around 130IP the least two seasons.. I wouldnt sigm him for 5 years.

Shark+extension > Garza and not giving up prospects

Well your not going to get Garza for under a 3 year deal. Actually I am positive that he is going to get a 4 year deal and I am not willing to give out that kind of a contract to a guy that has pitched 150 innings 1 time in the last 4 years. He is not worth the risk and I would be upset if they committed that kind of contract to him.

Exactly I think Shark is a solid #2 option and he has been WAY more durable then Garza. I am hating all the Garza love on here because to us he is not worth the risk of a 3-4 year contract. We already have Morrow to worry about. Get someone who is going to give you close to 200 innings.

Sanchez for Shark > Garza 3-4years.

Samardzija is a a high end pitcher. Potentially a true ace, but he's not worth Sanchez and Stroman.

Plus, then your avatar would look pretty silly huh? :)

I like Shark. I really don't give a s*** if Sanchez is traded, I'm not a big fan of pitchers who walk more batters a game than JPA will walk in a month.

Stroman AND Sanchez AND a 3rd Prospect for Shark???

How does that even make sense when Fister, who is 1 year older, and controllable for the exact same amount of time goes to the Nats for a superutility guy, a young reliever, and a marginal prospect.

Theo Epstein isn't as dumn as Dombrowski

Even though Lind is almost a perfect fit for PIT, I can't see him netting a top ten prospect.

Jason Kubel just signed a minor league contract with the Twins and his career stats are shockingly similar to Lind's.

It's hardly a perfect comparison as the two are trending in totally opposite directions and Kubel can't play 1B; although he may very well be less of a liability there than in the OF lol.

I'm not saying the two have identical value, especially to the Pirates. It is just hard to imagine one getting traded for a top ten prospect from an excellent farm system, while the other can't get a major league contract as a FA.

Prob not... But you cant blame the Cubs for trying. Hopefully they're really high on Sanchez and will take other pieces.

I don't know that AA is talking prospects for Lind

Isn't he more likely talking Lind for a major league 2B or Lind + for a starter??

This means nothing I hope???

This sounds like he got talked into an investment opportunity. Hopefully he's a smart black man

We asked for Walker from Pittsburgh, they said no.

Which is why I think it makes sense to get CIN involved in a 3 way; Phillips to TOR, Lind to PIT, prospect(s) to CIN.

Hey do you know what? That seems pretty logical lol.

Lind easily gets a top 10 prospect I think. He was 32% above league average hitter last year. That and his cheap contract makes him a valuable asset.

You won't get Taillon or Polanco for Lind, Alen Hanson maybe.

What do you think are the odds Phillips waives his no trade clause to come to Toronto? I'd say it's roughly 0.0000000000001%.

Yes we did. That is neither here nor there, though, because Shark isn't Doc.

He's pitched more than 200 innings once. 174 innings doesn't count as "around 200" in my opinion, that's like 4 less games pitched.
