Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Offer 3/30 and be done with it I'd be fine with this, I just want izturis out
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 Prado was coming off a 5.7 WAR season, how are they at all comparable? If anything, Prado is the nail in the coffin. Ask Infante's agent, that's where the 4/40 request aparently stems from
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Is Infante that much better than Ellis that he would justify a bigger commitment?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Offer 3/30 and be done with it Why not 4/32? You get an extra year at 2M, and it beats the Yankees 3/24 offer by a full year on the same AAV. It also makes him happy for getting a 4th year. Is Infante that much better than Ellis that he would justify a bigger commitment? Yes.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Hmm. I cant say i'm completely comfortable with giving Infante 4 years. I think I would do 3/30, but 4/40 is kinda tough. I would rather try to make a trade for Ackley or Franklin first. If that doesn't happen then I guess I would sign Infante at 4/40.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 I'd be fine with this, I just want izturis out Sure Sign Infante Keep Goins as utility/backup (he will get playing time) Get Butler Trade away Izturis, Lind and Santos Trade for Hamels Rock on
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Ask Infante's agent, that's where the 4/40 request aparently stems from If 4/$40 is the ask, surely there is 10-20% leeway on the AAV. I guess I could live with 4/$32 but I don't think he's a 2 WAR player beyond 2015.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I like Phillips as an option too. At this point I just don't think the team is in a position to be stingy with 2B. If the opportunity is there to land Infante and the Reds are still asking for a big return for Phillips, just sign Infante and move on. The terms of his asking price won't cripple you, and the team reportedly has space to work with. It is the most obvious area for improvement, but I don't mind playing musical chairs between the two. The market appears limited.
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Maybe you can get him to accept something like 3/33, with the third year being a club option. I still suspect he might get 4/36 from some GM even more desperate than ours.

I still suspect he might get 4/36 from some GM even more desperate than ours. Then that GM would be smarter, because it's idiotic to pass up on a guy if, in your scenario, you can get a 4th year out of him for just 3M. When you get a 4th year for that low of a cost, the GM should be the one asking for that extra year, not the player. It makes no sense to offer 3/33 when 4/33 would likely have him sign.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I love how people are scared shitless about AA getting raped in a trade for an SP, while desperately rallying for him to trade assets for Billy f***ing Butler, a guy that the Royals notoriously over-value. But where, oh where, will we find a 1.5 win player that can only DH?
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 3 years / 10m per, club option for a 4th year same value
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 You would have had so much more surplus value with a pair of cheaper signings like Kazmir and Infante than you will by going balls out in a trade for an SP like Samardzija and resorting to Izturis at 2B for a second year.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 For Infante? $15 million per season? Are you nuts? Yes, completely ignore the trade off of higher AAV/short years
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 This signing holds so much more value for us because not only do you fill your clubs biggest need of 2013 (yes, bigger than catcher), you take away the Yankees #1 option. And done via free agency to keep trade chips for pitching He really really should do it
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Then that GM would be smarter, because it's idiotic to pass up on a guy if, in your scenario, you can get a 4th year out of him for just 3M. I don't want him for that 4th year, period. Not even for 3, if Omar Infante is still our best option at 2B in 2017 then.......you know. I'm on record as being pro-blowup, but if we're comitted to the derping for the next 2 years, let's derp it up right. We're stuck around 85 wins, this guy has the chance to get us up to 87-88 next year. For 12 to 15 mil for the next 2 seasons, he's contextually worth it to us.

So you wouldn't take a 3rd and 4th year, when in your scenario, they're essentially free. You're right. Derping it up real good.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Assuming it doesn't cost Sanchez/Stroman, I think I would much rather try to nab Ackley or Franklin via trade than sign Infante. Both would probably provide similar WAR, but would come much cheaper in salary which gives us more for pitching.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Lets face it, its probably a very strong chance Goins/Izturis is our 2B in 2014. Haven't heard anything about any 2B linked to the Jays.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 Haven't heard anything about any 2B linked to the Jays. That may be a good thing in terms of AA actually getting something done You never really know... These other things like Price, Butler, etc all seem to have been deals that probably won't happen
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I really don't understand why most of this forum would welcome Garza with open arms on a 4/60 deal but balk at 4/40 for Infante. Not only are they projected for very similar production, Garza would cost 50% more than Infante and his 2-3 wins would be replacing ~1-1.5 win talent in the rotation (Rogers, Happ, Stroman, Hutchison, Redmond etc...) while Infante's 2-3 wins would be replacing Goins and Izturis. Infante at 4/40 is a no-brainer for me. AA is banking on Izzy to bounce back to his career norms ( .270 / .330 ) at $4M per. Those are exactly identical to Infante's career stats (.279 / .320 ) Pass..

This team is literally f***ed if AA doesn't do something.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 lmfao Whats so funny? Steamer has Infante at .288 / .325 and Izturis at .257 / .316. So are trying to tell me that that tiny projected increase is worth an extra $6M per season x 4? I'd rather use that $6M per season towards signing Garza or some other starter or to be used on Tanaka's salary (if we win the bidding).
