Brenner Verified Member Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 per MLBTR - Eric Hinske only worked in the Yankees' scouting department for a month before leaving to become the Cubs' first base coach, but he helped convince Brian McCann to sign on for five years in New York, Andy McCullough of the Star-Ledger writes. Hinske and McCann played together in Atlanta from 2010 through 2013. "[Hinske] was involved. He helped me with Brian McCann," says Yankees GM Brian Cashman. "So I appreciate Eric Hinske giving Brian McCann a lot of good advice about his experience here with the Yankees. He was a great resource for about 30 days." If we signed Eric Hinske for 30 days, what free agents that he played with would we target?
Lawrie22 Verified Member Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I believe he played a year with Garza in Tampa. Get Hinske and Navarro to persuade Garza to come here
Brenner Verified Member Posted December 8, 2013 Author Posted December 8, 2013 How much WAR did Eric Hinske contribute to the Yankees in just 30 days? Possibly more than his whole playing career. Prorated over a full year he could be executive of the year, he is like the Goins of executives.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Lol @ everyone thinking that Hinske would have good things to say about this franchise.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Fast forward to 2016 "f***ing Hinske is the reason we have this useless catcher for 2 more years"
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 How much convincing would someone really need to accept a 5 year $85M contract from the Yankees? He wasn't going to see anywhere near that amount offered elsewhere plus the Yankees are usually a competitive club year in and year out with a few exceptions since about 1995-96. I'm not knocking Hinske but I really doubt his conversations really did that much to lure him there. He probably helped, like many players help when other players consult them about what it's like to play in a certain city, for a certain team and such. I think Cashman was just giving some extra thanks to him. Outside of that I think the money and chances of making the playoffs and World Series is the key factors to accepting that deal. Hinske is under contract to be a coach elsewhere so I'm not sure if he could actually give advice/recommendations to players on where they should sign without getting in trouble with the Cubs and/or MLB. I doubt his recommendation would lead to any FA coming to Toronto. Whole new ballgame in TO since he left. If FA aren't going to sign in Toronto his word isn't going to convince them where he's working for the Jays or not.

Jays Verified Member Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Which is nice but AA seems to have all but ruled out signing free agent pitching. He knows what he's doing....................lol....
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Which is nice but AA seems to have all but ruled out signing free agent pitching. He has SAID he is more likely to pursue the trade route. What that means is up for debate.

Didn't he also say something about the prices being too high? Maybe he scoops up whatever's left at the end of the offseason but it's a good bet he won't be the gm to meet Garza's demands.

I think he should just nab Ubaldo Jiminez while everyone else waits for Tanaka and Garza And still try to trade for a top end starter too
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I think he should just nab Ubaldo Jiminez pls nu
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 pls nu Imagine Ubaldo and Drabek in the same rotation.... Walks for days!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Imagine Ubaldo and Drabek in the same rotation I'd rather not
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I'd rather not Not even the greatest of catchers can prevent their wild pitches
Jays Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Not even the greatest of catchers can prevent their wild pitches Which would provide the least number of wild pitches... Yadier Molina or 2 Arencibia's?
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Hinske seems like a pretty nice guy. Wish the best for him. He got some serious flack (from myself included) in the last few years of his stay here.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Which would provide the least number of wild pitches... Yadier Molina or 2 Arencibia's? The Arencibias would probably collide with each other and give each other concussions.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I think he should just nab Ricky Romero while everyone else waits for Tanaka and Garza Fixed.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Fixed. Not your best work

Prorated over a full year he could be executive of the year, he is like the Goins of executives. I don't know how I missed this but this is probably post of the year. McCann is projected for like ~4.15 WAR + 1 win from framing. 5.2 wins or so. Over 30 days. 5.2/30= WAR/Day. 365 days in a year. That's 60.8 WAR/365. Easy candidate for GM of the year. Suck it, Freidman.

Suck it, Freidman. If 30 days of Hinske is worth that much I have to think that 1 day of Halladay is going to land the Jays something good. This 1 day Halladay deal could go down as AA's best free agent signing ever.
