With the signing of Cano, the Mariners have quite a logjam in the middle infield that could be exploited by Anthopoulos. They now have Ackley, Franklin, Miller, and Bloomquist to fill out the shortstop and backup IF role. In addition, they have prospect Carlos Triunfel almost ready to step in.

Both Ackley and Franklin would be nice upgrades with potential and control. The Mariners are known to be looking for a 1B upgrade (Lind) and relief help (perhaps Janssen or Cecil) so we match up decently. It could be a nice opportunity to improve a weakness with a strength and also reduce payroll to accommodate a guy like Anderson.

The AA of old would've acquired Ackley a year ago. This new guy we've got, he'll just keep trying to convince the Reds to take Stroman for Phillips.

No, wait, wait. I have a good one...

Are we sure Cano is going to be just to be HANDED the every day starting job???

It'll be even worse if they also sign an outfielder like Choo.

I would love to get any of Ackley, Franklin, Miller, Triunfel, M Saunders (and some of their young pitching). Rasmus could be a perfect guy to send them if we don't feel we can extend him.

What's with your boner for Saunders? (Referring to L3) lol

I thought last year he was going to be a breakout guy, especially after his torrid WBC. I still think there's a high end player there that hasn't managed to break out yet. He needs to get the hell out of Safeco.

Even Ackley would be a solid upgrade from what we had last season and I am not sure we would have to pay a whole lot to get our hands on him.

Reyes

Bautista

Rasmus

Encarnacion

Lind/Platoon Partner (Sierra?)

Lawrie

Cabrera

Ackley/Franklin

Navarro/Kratz

is a lineup that I could see making the playoffs. Especially with a SP add like Samardjiza.

What would it take to get Franklin?

We should all just become Rays fans.

Never just ordered a A's hat, Reds hat and a new Jays hat. Those are the teams that I support lol.

I would do that in a second

I'm thinking it'd be more like Janssen + Pillar for Franklin, at least if you're buying him as a starting ~1.5WAR - +2WAR guy.

Posted
Nolin has more value to me than Janssen, so I'd prefer that.

I'm not the biggest Nolin fan, I'd definitely be trying to sell somewhat high on him. 2 WAR is probably his ceiling and he's going to have to eat a lot of innings to get there. IMO the Mariners are clearly in compete mode and have enough starting depth that they would prefer to shore up their lousy BP than back-end innings. That being said moving some BP depth would be preferable to moving Nolin IMO as well.

Too true, unfortunately. Man, I loved what this guy was all about up until the Happ trade. It's like he's not even the same person.

i bet u seattle uses one of there 2nd base prospects with walker to get price.

Agreed , See how much of this group is left standing after they get a pitcher . Smoak is another name likely to move .

Triunfel is simply a DFA candidate at this point. Someone with a clear need for a defensive replacement will probably give up a non factor piece for him but in Seattle he's done. After the issues Ackley had with Wedge I feel that he's the one to go in a trade but it wouldn't surprise me if Seattle now overtrades it's one position of depth cause they have a BP need.

Plz never post 10-year projections again. Thx.

It's just funny to look at lol.

Although the "Go for him" part was serious. I would like Franklin.

Yeah good point

Tampa would like 1B and 2B improved

I mean in terms of the Rays trading for a 2B. They resigned Dejesus, and have Jennings, Myers and Joyce.
