Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 wonder if they trade lobaton now?
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/forums/2-Toronto-Blue-Jays-Forum Goddammit! I'mma report the next one before you ang lol
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Damn. What did I say about the Rays landing Hanigan. This is a real blow.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Wow, I love the Rays. Hanigan/Molina is the best framing and overall catching tandem in the game. We don't know that they're keeping Molina here
bzapple Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Why is it I say to myself "of course!" every time the Rays do anything?
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Wow, I love the Rays. Hanigan/Molina is the best framing and overall catching tandem in the game. Overall? I'd take Yadier & Cruz.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Can't trade someone after he is just signed. That's not how the Rays as an organization do business lol. Still, since Molina was on their team previously and the Rays resigned him, they would still be able to trade him anytime before June correct? I think that rule only applies to FA's who sign with new teams...
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Goddammit. Probably got him on the cheap too. They'll give him a two-year extension. I knew the Rays were going to be all over Hanigan - just a typical Rays move. Ah I'm disappointed!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Regardless, quite likely Lobaton or Molina is involved in the trade somehow
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Of course the Rays got him.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 There FTFY. Yes, that's more likely
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Ugh.. in fantasy land I was hoping he was still a Jay target and Thole would be odd man out:(
Jays Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Dunno why the Jays weren't all over Hanigan. Lets see the players involved...
Smokey Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 So the Jays acquire a catcher coming off a career high and the Rays acquire one (although via trade) who's udervalued and coming off a down year... SMH Hopefully we'll see an end to this trend when the sockless puppet-master finally croaks.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Wow, I love the Rays. Hanigan/Molina is the best framing and overall catching tandem in the game. That's a pretty big statement. Wouldn't Yadier and whatever backup you give him be a better tandem? Or Lucroy? Probably plenty more.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 That's a pretty big statement. Wouldn't Yadier and whatever backup you give him be a better tandem? Or Lucroy? Probably plenty more. Some big statements being made on this board over the last 24 hours lol.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 By tandem I mean a catcher rotation. Not a clear no 1 with a clear backup. Ok got ya. I should have figured.
mitchf Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Great get for the Rays. I remember lots of the people in this thread (myself included) wondering what the hell the Reds were doing playing Hanigan over Mesoraco with such regularity. I guess I've learned over the past few years that a .340 OBP (minimum) and plus plus defense isn't something that grows on trees. I look forward to the Rays getting 4 Wins out of Hanigan.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 I would have liked Hanigan over Navarro. But I'm not unhappy with Navarro at all. Navarro + Cecil over Hanigan
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Hanigan's offensive numbers really sucked this year. But he has shown in the past he can hit a little bit. This is really a steal for the Rays. Pitch framing will continue to be masterful in Tampa. The Rays showed with Molina that they really don't care about offense if their catcher is a positive framer. It really makes sense when you consider how heavily they depend on young pitching. They go a great job of looking at things hollistically.
agrushcow Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 There is far too much destain here over a very mediocre option anyway...
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Yea I agree with you. I'm just saying Hanigan has some potential upside with the bat as well. Yep. They will treat his offense as bonus which is both the right way to approach him and the probable reason why they were willing to meet the Reds price while other teams seemingly weren't.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Wow, I love the Rays. Hanigan/Molina is the best framing and overall catching tandem in the game. Lol are you f***ing high? You know there is a National League in baseball right?
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Dammit. The Rays are doing exactly what I wanted to do - acquire Hanigan and get his name on a new 2-3 year deal. f***. I love that team. It's hard not to appreciate a tremendous organization like the Rays. Another incredible transaction for them.
